New clothes - try this

A useful tip or piece of advice I picked up recently which I’d like to share - before anybody gets all self righteous or on their moral high ground and tells me they haven’t bought anything new since the millennium and only ever buy from charity shops (it applies here too) etc etc etc
When you buy something new, before you take the labels off, try it on in three different ways, different accessories, shoes or for 3 different occasions.
Take pictures of yourself on your phone .
If you can’t find 3 different ways to style it, however much you liked it, take it back, you don’t need it. (Hence the labels and receipts.)
If you can , the next time you are wondering what to wear you will have 3 different suggestions to draw on.
It may sound silly but it avoids impulse buying and possibly expensive mistakes or buying one item (however much of a bargain) and then spending more money or time trying to find things to go with it.

When it comes to clothes, I am a professional and so I always purchase jackets and trousers in solid neutrals that pair with lovely silk / silky shirting / blouses or turtlenecks and loads of scarves to pair with colors that pick up the suits.

At the weekends, I am a jeans woman and adore denim and leather jackets and of course great wool coats and fab sweaters depending on the weather.

Here in the early am - it is approx 11 centig and mid day 20 centig.

So, I peel off layers before I leave the studio and place in a bag neatly in my big bag.

My favourite shop is Zata .. Smart and decent prices and always an excellent fit for me .. No alterations.

I do have a dark red top which could go underneath.
Never thought of red, pascal30, thanks. 🙂
With black trousers.

ZARA - NOT Zata .. Typing error.

I buy mostly white, black, navy, grey clothing - and a small amount of pink, pale blue, aqua, burgundy. Lots of scarves and coloured shoes.

Great idea, I'll think in future - 3 ways to use each purchase.

I'm not buying clothes on line anymore. If I can't try before I buy, then I'm not going to. The last three items I bought, 2 jumpers, 1 blouse, were a disappointing colour. Should have sent them back but I struggle a bit doing that. Stuck in my wardrobe now and will no doubt end up in charity shop.

Returning should not be a struggle.

Both EVRI and RoyalMail will pick up from your doorstep(the latter at no additional charge)

I don't often buy new but, if I am trying something on, my rule is does this look better than the clothes I came in wearing? It's surprising how often the answer is "No!"

I bought a mohair gilet last week, and when I tried it on at home I realised I could wear it with the buttons at the front or down the back. That's 2 ways. Maybe I'll try it over my bottom as a skirt next!

You'd be right on trend 😂😂😂
The shorter the better!

I have a lovely soft purple/dark lilac cardigan in the wardrobe, never worn it because it goes with nothing I have, bought because I liked it.

Wont it look good with a black tee under it and jeans? Same colour earrings?

Yes, another idea, thank you.

Ps Amethyst earrings would be just right.
I'll put them on my Christmas list.
