Plugging in is getting me down ( just a little)

We seem to be the age of 'plugging in.'

My phone, my iPad, my Kindle, my leg massager.

Every day, it seems, something needs plugging in. I have several portable chargers, which see me through most of the time, but guess what? They need plugging in too

The gadgets are all very wonderful, but I do get tired of the endless plugging in.

Going away anywhere is a nightmare, too, making sure you haven’t forgotten to pack the right chargers!

Forgetting to plug is is worse!!

Don't forget the rechargeable vacuum cleaner.

I bought a new debobbler, it's very good.
But it needs plugging in 😀

Just a smart phone and laptop for me although my dog wears an illuminated collar ( bright pink!) for dark evening walks so that's another thing to remember to recharge.

I'd forgotten about going away. I have to take a plug with ports, so that I can charge whatever I need. It's usually only my phone and my Kindle, but they each need different end plugs. Then of course DH's phone needs a charger too.

I am waiting (in vain) for the day when batteries last a month instead of a day.

It is finding sufficient sockets for all these extra chargers that is my problem.

When I go away, not only do an array of plugs come with me but an extension too! For phone, for iPad, for toothbrush…

This is a problem we all have, plus the trailing cables to deal with. With all this modern technology, you would think someone would invent a different system.

BlueBelle Fri 12-Dec-25 05:14:49

Well for me it’s just my iPad and phone. I don’t find it a problem except when I forget to charge it 🤣

NotAGran55 Fri 12-Dec-25 08:02:51

I keep 3 charging cables permanently plugged in, in 3 different locations around the house.
No bending down needed, just a simple connection to put on charge.
The vacuum cleaner rests on the work surface in the utility room, charger always in the socket, ready to be connected when needed. Dyson told me not to keep permanently on charge as it reduces the life of the battery.

Going away is when the problem starts! Umpteen different options needed, plus a selection of cables and plugs for the power bank, bluetooth earphones, overseas adapters etc etc. the list goes on. I keep them all ready in a bag from the packing cube set, so I don’t have to search each time I go away.

All of the below plus recharging my hearing aids - a must !

Lathyrus3 Fri 12-Dec-25 09:34:12

Oh I was just going to post that too Nankate 😀 The unit and cable take up a bit of space in the backpack.

And not all hotels have USB ports so along comes the converter plug as well……….

BlueBelle Fri 12-Dec-25 09:39:20

Is it safe to keep plugs in when not in use I thought the advice was not to

MiniMoon Fri 12-Dec-25 09:45:11

I use a rechargeable barbecue lighter to light my fire. I've lost the charging cable. Happily there is another that fits it. It doesn't need plugging in at the moment.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 12-Dec-25 09:46:52

iPad, iPhone, ear buds, kindle, toothbrush, mini HANI light, cordless Bosch vacuum cleaner - there’s always one or other every day!

BrandyGran Fri 12-Dec-25 09:53:25

I’ve been given a floor standing light( to knit and read by ) as a present. It has a two point plug. The points are round in shape. Where can I buy an adapter? Would a universal travel adapter do?

Lathyrus3 Fri 12-Dec-25 10:04:55

Oh and my chair🤣

How could I have forgotten that!

I bought one and it was great for my pure wool socks. After debobbling my socks were completely bobble free but left with holes where they had been. Beware! shock

Esoecially at Christmas when there's so much to plug and unplug before going to bed.

Maybe next year I'll go electric free... I don't even have that many lights I don't know how people manage who have these huge displays!

Smileless2012 Fri 12-Dec-25 10:18:42

I think it's OK Bluebelle as long as the power from the plug it's plugged into is off.

Thank you!

I have been debobbling jumpers, at least they look fit to wear now, although thinner!

I’m going to have a read up on this later, and might start flicking all my cables off at the wall.
Bending down is a good exercise anyway 🙂

BlueBelle Fri 12-Dec-25 11:06:59

I always pull all my plugs out before I go to bed, always have.

I don’t seem to have that much to charge just my iPhone and my iPad. My AirPods seem to last for ages so that’s only a very now and then thing and I don’t have anything else.

henetha Fri 12-Dec-25 12:47:01

One brilliant thing about my robot vacuum cleaner is that it plugs itself in after cleaning and tells me it's 'charging'.

Grantanow Sun 14-Dec-25 13:49:18

The EU introduced standard plugs for phones, laptops, etc. A good idea. Of course, Brexit....
