Staycation ideas

When we lived near the New Forest I always thought that going to the Isle of Wight With my parents on the ferry was going abroad!
The weather is usually marginally better down there too.
We usually go to Cornwall because DD2 and the Grandchildren live there.
Sidmouth is good for hotels, nice little shops and plenty of places to drive to see, or of course Lyme Regis is a favourite.

Salcombe is lovely at this time of year - just about perfect for a week’s break. If you want to go a bit further west, Fowey is delightful.

Try the Suffolk coast.

You may struggle to find somewhere as once the schools are back, lots of retired people will have booked to go away, especially if they have been shielding so far. So I suggest not being too precise where you go, allowing plenty of options,

I love the New Forest area, as there are so many different and varied places to go, within an hour max. Coast nearby, Milford on Sea etc. So much going on around there.

Depends where the OP Lives and how far they want to travel

Bamburgh. Robin Hoods Bay.

My aunt had a holiday home in Sidmouth and I had some lovely holidays there. Lovely beaches, lots of places of interest to visit. Not too far from Dartmoor, Castle Drogo is a must. Pretty little town with good shops and eateries, and in the surrounding countryside.

I always thought that geekesse but everyone including hotels are using it to mean staying in the UK. I holiday in the UK and abroad (well I did! ) and if I went nowhere but had time of from work it was a staycation.

I've just had a holiday in the North East for the first time, what a beautiful coast, scenery and amazing beaches. I will be going back.

You may have problems finding anywhere with rooms on the sea front for early- mid September.
My husband works for himself and so is not tied to particular days etc. but I gave up looking for accommodation overlooking the sea/beach/harbour anywhere. Depends what you are looking for of course but you best get a move on!. Last week of September would have been easy but we didn't want to chance the weather that late in the year.

Oh No Dancinggran another one who has found us and is giving the secret away. It's all coal mines and mills up north you know.

My favourite is Bridport ( think Broadchurch). Lovely shops and a real market. A short drive from Lyme Regis. Alternatively, the Suffolk coast - Aldeburgh has great hotels and Southwold is like going back in time to the 5os with Woodbridge nearby

Depends how far you want to travel. We are going to Somerset little village called Keighton mandeville we’ve got lovely Airbnb by a stream. 25 mins from Beach and 45 mins from Bath ideal spot for us. We didn’t want right on beach after seeing the crowds there few weeks back. Enjoy where ever you choose.

The Morecambe area is lovely, and close to the Lake District too.
Beware the Morecambe tides, though. They can cut you off so easily as they gallop in through the gullies.

Thanks everyone. I live in Wales so the west country is probably best for us. We were thinking Sidmouth as we haven't been there since I broke my leg near there at Branscombe 9 yrs ago! Had to be airlifted to Exeter hospital! It was all high drama I can tell you. Might revisit the scene. Also thinking Salcombe possibly Weymouth. Will have to get a move on as Rumpunch said. Will let you know later.

Lots of choice.....just google some hotels but Covid wise, west and south seems less likely to go into lockdown. ...(is this actually a ‘staycation?! I thought that was when you stay at home and go out for day trips!)

How about Jersey, Guernsey or Sark? Or the Cotswolds which are beautiful too. Wherever you go have a lovely time.

We're going to Blakeney in north Norfolk in September. Lovely area.

It really depends on where you live and how far you want to go. The Yorkshire coast, Whitby will be too busy, Scarborough has much to offer, Bridlington and Filey, all great places to go. You don't want Wales, but my very favourite places is Llandudno which has two beaches and plenty of beautiful scenery round it. Or if you want to go further, there is Stranraer, with it's harbour, Girvan a lovely fishing town, Ayr has plenty to keep you busy and Prestwick Where I was brought up. Lovely clean beaches.

Don't waste your time coming to Brighton, it's a nightmare here, no social distances, day/weekend trippers packing beaches dumping rubbish everywhere, i just wish I could move away from here
