What's your favourite film?

Last night we watched "The World's Fastest Indian" . The true story of New Zealander Burt Munro, starring Anthony Hopkins. This is not a film that may seem to appeal to female audiences. However it is about people and relationships.
We both found it one of the most moving films we have watched for a long while. If it comes on TV again, give it a try, don't be put off by the motor cycling subject.

Titanic is one of the best movie for me.

My favourite film of all time has to be Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner. You know the one, "if you build it he will come". It's silly but Dude, Where's my Car is always good when I need cheering up. Buster Keaton's last film, A Funny thing happened on the way to the Forum, and Mama Mia.

My daughter says I only watch films about animals or ladies in corsets, or better still animals in corsets, (I love animals and history )
My all time favourite is The Nuns Story have it on iPad. But rather wish she had gone off with Dr Fortunati!

Yes, the first two Godfather films are firmly at the top of my list, then It's a Wonderful Life (so touching), Gone with the Wind (so epic), High Noon, Marathon Man, Empire of the Sun, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (so daft), Parenthood, Silence of the Lambs (so scary), Love Actually, Se7en, The Sixth Sense (so clever), Brassed Off (so Northern), Terminator, West Side Story. I couldn't keep it to ten, and I'd still like to throw in a few classic Disneys, a handful of the black and white classics that used to be screened on a Saturday afternoon, a sprinkling of Hammer Horrors and Hitchcocks....

Top of my list would be The Godfather, second would be The Godfather Part 2 (Yes I know it's the better film really!)
After that - in no particular order:
Zulu
Love Actually
The Night Of The Demon
Some Like It Hot
All the Harry Potters
The Italian Job
Branagh's Henry V
The Seven Samurai

Many of these are great films and so hard to choose one - a film I found compelling viewing but have never been able to watch it a second time is - The Deer Hunter.
Another film I love is Al Pacino in -Scent of a Woman.

It just has to be Gone with the Wind - I just love a huge swinging crinoline - but wait then there`s The Searchers with the one and only John Wayne or perhaps The Sound of Music hard to pick just one and I haven`t even mentioned the Bond movies

To kill a mockingbird is great, also Cold Mountain, especially for Jack White singing 'poor wayfaring stranger' and for the 'shape note' singing in the church. I usually avoid violent films but there was something about Gangs of New York. I think it was Daniel Day Lewis, who is always mesmerising.

My favourite film, regardless of how many times I watch it, is The Dirty Dozen - all the emotions wrapped up in one film. They don't make 'em like that any more

I like too many to have a favourite! There are several I'm always happy to watch again: Miyazaki's 'My Neighbour Totoro' and 'Spirited Away'. Powell & Pressburger's 'The Red Shoes'. 'The Vikings'. Mel Brooks, 'The Producers' but not the musical. 'Went the Day Well?' 'Grease'. ''Steel Magnolias'..........

So many good films depending what mood I am in, but the one I love is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

I thought The Road was amazing [although my SIL and DD complained when I lent them the dvd as they said it was too depressing]. We saw it at the cinema and were transfixed [I bought the book soon afterwards and, for the first time in my life read it in one day]. I don't think anyone but Viggo could have pulled it off, though. I saw Never Let Me Go on dvd and would never actually lend that to anyone; I thought it was brilliant but am still haunted by the sadness . I've not heard of The Ice People [must check it out]. I saw Trainspotting for the first time 2 nights ago; have had it on video for years but never got round to watching it. Another one to take off the tick list . I've just bought Saving Grace cause I've found out an old boyfriend is in it and I used to live where it was filmed; it's quite funny [Doc Martin is a spin off from it].

My favourite 2 films are comedy one is 'out and out' funny It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, which never fails to make me happy, and the other is Midnight Run[contains a bit of what my Mother would have called 'language'!] However, it has it all, humour, pathos at times and lots and lots of action. Can't think of 10 films just now, but another would be Some Like It Hot, a great classic. I can only really watch comedy films over and over, though obviously there are plenty of good dramas.I don't know about the film, but don't read Never Let Me Go as it's totally heart breaking. Also The Road, both harrowing and horrific, ditto The Ice People although they are all first class books they have a very depressing effect [on me anyway.]

Out of Africa

Shining Through. Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffiths. She becomes a German translator but wants to do more and eventually becomes a secret agent in Germany during WW2. Great story

An Affair to Remember but also like the modern version, Love Affair with Annette Bening and Warren Beattie.

Dances with Wolves

'Some like it Hot' is definitely on my list.

I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned 'Some like it hot' with Mariyln Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. This film does not date, the humour is great and I can even remember some of the script.

I haven't seen it on the telly for a while.

P.S. 'Deliverance' another classic.

I caught that film late one night on the telly; at first I thought 'this is a bit dreary' but I found myself being drawn into it and loved it. Stangely enough, a friend who knows the sort of films I like gave me a few dvd's to watch that he recommended a while back that I might not have seen and that was amongst them. A little gem of a film.

My favourite film is The Painted Veil. I love all the W Somerset Maugham Stories and Edward Norton and Naomi Watts - marvellous actors!

Favourite of all time is To sir with love with Sidney Poitier and Lulu when she was REALLY young!
