Peaky Blinders

I loved the first series. Perhaps it's just me but this second series is getting a bit over complicated. Maybe I'm not concentrating enough so have lost the plot

The bit at the end with Aunt Polly had me sobbing. She is one helluva actress. After that I watched The Detectorists and I was crying with laughter. I then woke up in the early hours and a film with Cillian Murphy was on the telly so I watched that as well .

We have a canal at the back of our house which you can only see from upstairs as we have a high fence. A few years ago we had to have some work done on the roof and two Black Country lads came to do it. One of them went up his ladder and noticed the canal. He shouted down to his mate 'Blimey there's a bostin' bit of cut dahn there'. Made me

Me too Tegan. I am meeting one of my oldest friends tomorrow who still has a slight Brummie accent and I just love to hear it.

Is it cause I'm a Brummie that this series makes me feel that, for an hour each week, I've gone back in time and I'm with 'my' people? There was a brief mention of 'The Patch' last week and I just thought to myself 'yes, I know The Patch'.

KatyK you do take me back by your talk of Kali (sherbet) to anyone else. I can taste it now. The bright yellow powder turned my finger an odd colour.

Just seen first episode of P B - excellent.

Marvellous reminder of the good old days of razor-gangs and Teddy Boys. All it needs is a squad or two of heavy-footed, truncheon-wielding Bow Street runners to complete the picture of this Victorian idyll. Well done, indeed!

Just watched the first of the new series, loved it.

We were hooked last time, and are looking forward to the new series, another of the joys of autumn.

Tegan do post how you get on if you go on the Digbeth Tours. We could have a thread on interesting places to visit.

I might persuade DH to come up to B'ham for a few days wallowing in nostalgia.

I enjoyed it too. So looking forward to the new series. I remember the back to backs but in liverpool ( not so far removed) I also remember 'bookies runners' for putting on a bet.

Can't wait for Peaky Blinders. Tegan - The back to backs are quite posh inside compared to how I imagine they would have been. I suppose it's health and safety. The basic structure has been left as it was but a lot of the furnishings etc are pretty and kept very clean. I'm sure they weren't in the days when poor folks lived in them.

Same here. In fact, I'm going back there soon as I'm starting to look into my family history. I'd like to do one of the 'Digbeth Tours' that I've read about.

Can't wait for the new series to start on Thursday. One of the few programmes my DH would watch and enjoy.

My Mum was born in that area of Birmingham in 1910 so it is of special interest to me.

One more series, possibly two [hurrah]. Katy; must tell you that I've just got back from Brum and we looked in at the back to backs although didn't have time to go round them, and one of the men working there actually lived close to where I grew up and went to my primary school, although he was a few years older than me so we didn't know each other. We peeped through a door to see the outside of the houses so at least my daughter saw the sort of house I used to live in, although they actually looked much posher than my house .

Bit late joining in this, but I thoroughly enjoyed the series, and did actually understand and appreciate the humour! There must be another series, musn't there, because who shot who? They both had guns, remember, but then perhaps there was someone else there? The acting was excellent, and although it appeared to be slow, the time it was on just sped by.

Tegan - I love the Brummie/Black Country sense of humour but then I am biased. Some years ago we went to a Black Country Comedy night out, it was hilarious. Some of the jokes I had heard before but told with a Black Country accent seemed much more funny to me. Such as - 'we were evacuating the house during the air raids and me mother said I ain't got me teeth, I said mother tham droppin bombs not pies'. I hope you enjoy your trip. Merlot I do so agree re Tom Shelby (maybe that's what kept me watching)

oooh aaah [as we say in Brum ]. Never has a Brummie accent been so seductive. Have you noticed that the hairstyles are now fashionable again?

Tom Shelby was a very sexy character.

I thought it was going to be predictable last night but it wrong footed me. Sounds daft but I'm feeling quite emotional about going to Brum tomorrow to the theatre; this series has rekindled my love for the place [which was on it's way back anyway]. Some of the lines had me crying with laughter; the one where Aunty Polly said that prayer and then added 'I think' at the end, and the one where the man said 'I thought you were dead' and he replied 'I've been in London' so he said something like 'even worse then' but with a few expletives. I reckon that, by series five, Tommy will be owning the Crossroads Motel and Aunt Polly will be Meg Richardson's grandmother . D'you think the humour in it is Brummie humour, Katie, or is it just me? We do have a black sense of humour.

I loved it and even forgave the dodgy accents

Tonights episode reminded me a bit of Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis. I loved the music in that, too.
