Peaky Blinders

I loved the first series. Perhaps it's just me but this second series is getting a bit over complicated. Maybe I'm not concentrating enough so have lost the plot

I agree. The double crossing is hard to follow and the violence dominates.

I hadn't seen the first series, but have been watching this one - with my fingers covering my eyes! Too violent for me. Have had to give up on it, I'm afraid.

I agree about the violence. What makes me stick with it is the racing, the acting and what is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. It bothers me that he's bought a filly to run in the Derby because fillies, in general don't run in it [although they are allowed to] and women, in those days weren't allowed to train in their own name. But they must have done their research to bring in Charlie Chaplin. Did you know that Aunt Polly is married to Damien Lewis [lucky woman ]. I find that, having overdone the blood and gore in Peaky Blinders, Detectorists is a good antidote afterwards. Both finishing next week, I believe.

Agree about the soundtracks and the acting. I just love it - even the violence.

Tegan I think she is training under her husbands name. Don't know anything about horses really, so don't know what I am talking about.

He'd have to be alive for her to train under his name. But I'm nit picking. Can't believe Tom Hardy is in it, either. I'm hoping that the last episode won't be as predictable as I think it will be.

I still love it but I don't even try to work out what's going on . I can't see there being another series, though. Met someone today who has just called his racehorse Peaky Blinder so I'll be looking out for that when it runs ....

There are some chaps who go to our local pub who have Peaky Blinders tee shirts The accents are getting more dodgy by the minute, Tommy's sister appears to be from Liverpool I will stick with it though I think. I watch the Job Lot, I really like that too. They have real Brummie accents in that, not sure why Peaky Blinders couldn't find any.

Was on the news tonight on Ch4. Sounds like there is another series . Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow night.

I missed the first series and we have just started watching this second series and I am absolutely hooked even though I am no lover of violence and gore. It is the music, the fantastic scenery, all those steaming dark satanic mills and the photography and lighting. Just watch when there is a dark dark scene, with all hissings steam and clanking pistons, and then in the almost monotone scene there will be one little flash of colour, maybe a scarf or a dress.....it is excellent and I regret missing the previous series. I didnt know what Peaky Blinders mean until my brother, who lives near Telford explained what it means. Great stuff.

I'm pleased to hear there may be a new series but that means we know there will be no ending to this one, just waiting for the twist at the end.

I still think it's great stuff, loved it from day one like other GN's. Yes it is violent but it is a story of gang warfare, IRA, deprivation etc. after all. Authenticity is the key to a good drama and it is a winner with the scenery. Won't go on said it all before.

Has anybody noticed Tommy's haircut has been copied by some in the fashion/celebrity world. North Vietnam must think they are paying homage to their 'dear leader'.

It's still Tommy's eyes that sell it to me, cold yet hauntingly attractive, great casting.

Have you seen him in 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley'? I haven't seen it myself [had the dvd once but can't find it now; think I lent it to someone before I got the chance to watch it]. I can't imagine anyone else in the role; they were very lucky to be able to cast him [ditto Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games]. Can't help but feel it was the music that attracted him to the role as much as the storyline, as he's a keen musician and is often on R6.

POGS We were in our local pub last night and a young man came in with a Tommy Shelby haircut.

The writer took Cillian to a pub to listen to Brumme accents and, supposedly he went home and practiced on his family. It really is a difficult accent to get. He also said there's nothing wrong with 'sexing up' history [which the Americans have always done] and, as I enjoyed the Henry VIII series [against my better judgement given that Henry never became fat and ugly] I can see what he means. The town planners stripped away so much of Brum, it's good to see someone bring it back to life. Only downside is that only other Brummies used to pick up on my accent and now other people do [it happened in the sauna the other day].

POGS and KatyK, my DGS2 - 16 months old - is now sporting a Tommy Shelby haircut! My DD2 doesn't watch Peaky Blinders, so I think it must just coincide with the latest hipster "do". I think he looks adorable, but his other gran's reaction was "Tell me who did that to you, sweeheart, and I'll get them for you"!

POGS - This young man was very trendy looking so yes he looked good but as with maggie's grandson, I think this is just fashion and a coincidence that the styles are the same. Tegan - I wish the writer had brought Cillian into my local pub

Cillan makes my knees go wobbly with his gorgeous eyes and slim physique and I thought I was past all that malarkey.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!
......[who do you think he's planning to marry? My bet is on the trainer. For some reason I dislike Grace but find the trainer very sweet and vulnerable and I can cope [just about] with Tommy being with her]. I find watching the series connects me so much to my childhood, even though it is a glamourised version of it.

He's also in another film called Perriers Bounty which was on Film4 the other week. Incredibly violent and made very much in the In Brugges style, but I still find it watchable because of his acting. I first saw part of it when it was on the telly late one night then, when I saw it was on again I watched the whole film.

I really thought Tommy was a goner in the field and thought he can't be I've read there will be a new series. Brilliant acting as usual all the way through by every cast member.

I was so pleased Polly shot Sam Neil, he was a horrible piece of work.

How cool was Tommy when he met the Jewish Gangster, you could feel the tension in the room. You suddenly remember your batting for a vicious gangster to get his way.

Which woman will he marry?. I actually like the prostitute that he has shared a lot of time with but it's odds on for the two main characters but my bet is, which ever one he chooses the other will be pregnant and he will still not 'have it all'.

Great adult viewing.
