Hinterland BBC 4 9pm

When was it on? Was it a repeat? I think there's been a previous thread, but I may be wrong.

I think it is the English-with-subtitles version of the same programme that was on BBC Wales some months ago. We thoroughly enjoyed it, I hope there aren't spoilers in this thread from that time:

Yes, it did have some sub-titles, which normally I hate, but it was ok.

Depends which TV area you're in - yes, I remember those subtitles but it didn't detract from the storyline. I agree, a good series.

Really enjoyed it, looking forward to the next one.

I thought it was good, but a bit over-dramatic and lingering, so I fast-forwarded through some of the tramping across the countryside bits. Lots of gloom, hellfire and damnation. I worked out whodunnit fairly early on, but there were still a few twists at the end.
Well-acted and good characters and set in a part of the world I know quite well, so I shall watch more.

I watched the series on BBc1 Wales a few months ago and it was mainly English spoken with some odd bits of Welsh with sub- titles - as you might find in some bi-lingual areas. The leading man was on Breakfast TV last week and he said they filmed two versions at the same time when they filmed - a totally Welsh one and the one I saw and now showing in England.
It was shown on BBC Wales just after the horrendous storms which had ruined the sea front of Aberystwyth so was very interesting to see as the damaged prom was on the News and then up came Hinterland with how it was before they hit!

Very well done, with a very sad story. Atmospheric and haunting. We visited Devil's Bridge a long time ago and it still gives me the creeps, especially the swirling black water down at the bottom, yet the view from the road down to Aber is fantastic. Looking forward to more of the same. The whole thing reminded me of the Swedish detective series Kurt Wallender.

I watched it a while ago, mainly English with some Welsh. It was atmospheric rather in the style of Wallander or the Danish detective series, and I enjoyed it.

I thought it was very good and if a repeat of the Welsh version I would never have known, It certainly hasn't been on "mainstream" BBC before. It reminded me of Broadchurch which I loved but was slightly surprised that last night's episode was more or less stand-alone. Is this the way it is going to be?

We do like stand alone episodes as we often forget to watch the second and third instalments unless we record them.

Second one just as good - dark, introspective and violent. Not doing much for Aberystyth tourism, I think!

I am sick of many a good series being ruined by this really clichéd darkness. The directors, or whoever deem this to be fashionable, are making them selves look ridiculous and having us all squinting at our screens.

I also watched it several months ago and like it very much its also filmed where I have family living and it made for interesting viewing when they showed my sister and my nieces' houses.. I shall be watching when the second series comes on.

I'm enjoying this series. I like the fact I haven't seen any of these actors before.They are very good.

His eyes remind me of Paul McCartney. Bit puppy dog-ish.

Just wondering about sanitation arrangements in the caravan and what powers the fridge - could be gas, I suppose. And would he get TV and a mobile phone signal up there. Wouldn't want to be the van in a big blow, being so near the edge of the cliff.

Fridge would be Calor or Butane gas, of course. Don't know how he would keep it from blowing away, perhaps strap it down to big corkscrew things in the ground either side (available in all good caravan showrooms)

There is probably a Portapotty in a cupboard-sized loo. They are much more sophisticated these days. Between the bowl and the storage tank (containing a far less horrible chemical additive than they used to) is a trap-door that is opened for use and then closed.
So you don't have to imagine him going out and peeing over the cliff edge, PapaOscar, or worse, pooing over the edge. (The mind bog gles)

It hasn't put Wales on the tourist map for me! Could not have been more bleak! I enjoyed the programme though!
