Matter not patter!

We stopped watching Corrie about three years ago. It seemed to lose something then and we thought it was getting too unrealistic. We also stopped watching Emmerdale for the same reasons.

We have been watching it and thought the acting was good and the whole thing was well done.

I did get irritated with Tina over the weeks before her death when she was stalking Peter and last night Rita went a bit over the top.

Men like Peter can be very attractive to some women.

I remarked to DH last night that out of all the main characters in the latest little drama, the one I would least like to be (bar Tina) is Rob. How dreadful to lash out at someone in a moment of panic and then have to live with the fact that you killed someone.

I watch Corrie regularly and love the humour in it, but these death stories contrived to explain the end of a contract are usually terrible, with the exeption of Roy and Hayley, played by great actors. Barbara Knox's acting is appalling - I switched over last night. I agree the whole love triangle scenario has been ludicrous, especially when they did the 'Tina might be pregnant, too' episodes. Get back to Steve tying himself up in knots and David's wicked plotting, but if another actor has to go just shove 'em in a Street Cars taxi!

I gave up on Coronation Street with the arrival of some characters called 'Battersby' - the sort of people I would avoid in real life, so certainly not welcome in TV fantasy...

Funny thing - I've never missed it.

Surely if one watches only fantasy which does not have people in it one would wish to avoid in life, that would rule out nearly everything, including Shakespeare?

Anyway, the Battersby girls did quite well for themselves eventually, especially Leanne who until this week was the Manager of an upmarket bistro.

I stopped watching Corrie without really noticing that I had! I used to teach a cultural and media studies course to mature students which entailed watching soaps. I was glad to be rid of them, but nevertheless mourned the demised of Brookside - brilliant acting and outrageous plots.

I hadn't watched it for a little while but caught the last twenty minutes or so last night. I was amazed they have killed Tina off. Wish I had kept up now! Where did they find a balcony to push her off of?

I don't think you watch this stuff for realism.

I think the last time I watched Corrie, Ena, Martha and Minnie were still supping stout in the Rovers.

I like watching Coronation Street but do agree with others that the writing has been going steadily downhill over the years; often, they seem to try to hard to be funny which ruins the comedic element.

I agree with others - the whole love triangle plot was so out of character for Tina (she would have eaten Peter for breakfast and spat out his bones!), it made me wonder if the writers of that plot had ever watched Tina's character all these years? Neither would she have fearfully backed away from Rob.

It was a silly storyline created to try and grab extra viewers and it is this kind of approach that is ruining Coronation Street.

I do love the Steve, Lloyd and Eileen moments though

I used to love Blanche, she was hilarious, and I loved Roy and Hayley. I think Ken is coming back too, not sure how that will work? I think Craig's mum ( can't remember her name ) is a funny character, but Corrie is best for its humour and has had great writers in the past. The current story lines are a bit grim.(Anna and Owen etc)

I love Corrie. There is definitely something lurking within Mary.....
