Since we sail I keep an eye on two or three weather apps - Met Office, Wind finder, Wind Guru. I've notice a decided decline in their accuracy in the last few months. The three day forecast used to be pretty good, but now it changes hour by hour and the only forecast likely to be right is the early morning one for that day!

Fortunately they're getting our weather wrong in the right way and it tends to be better than they forecast!

Met some people from S Wales on Saturday who said they had had such a terrific hailstorm that it had made holes in all their leafy plants!

We had one like that when our DS1 was a baby. The hailstones sounded like machine-gun bullets hitting the windows and there were big holes in all the rhubarb leaves.
This Norwegian weather site isn't bad. It will give you the forecast for your town in English.

I use the weather channel at www.weather.com and they have done 10 day forecasts for a long time. I'm not saying they're always accurate, but seem right more often than the BBC. The BBC forecasts still cover too wide an area, I think, so are hedged about with ifs and buts - they also seem to change on the hour.

I use the BBC local weather site, and I must say it's remarkably accurate most of the time.

Our BBC local weather is only accuratish on the day! They cheat and change it overnight!

Am I the only one who cannot listen to a whole forecast on the radio without losing concentration before the bit I am interested in?
I use the local BBC app on my tablet, which is usually accurate to the hour.

No, Shysal you're not alone. DH and I both watch the forecast, both thinking the other is concentrating but at the end of the forecast neither has a clue! That's why I now have 5 weather apps! (Need an odd number to get a majority decision!)

The met office has reasonable accuracy and has published statistics.

In general certain types of weather systems are chaotic by nature and can change rapidly, thunderstorms and showers for example. Trying to predict exactly where thunder storms may occur is almost impossible they are often very localised.

As a weather watcher, thanks to my last year primary school teacher in 1958/9, I really enjoyed this website.

This site shows you the major wind systems around the earth by dragging the globe to which ever part of the world you are interested in.

As of the the time of posting 01/07/14 23:16hrs there were no heavy wind systems at all coming towards the UK.

I used this link over the winter to watch the awful storms crossing the Atlantic over the winter.
Sorry about more Earth science geekiness it just interests me.
