roses my DiL walked up to stand beside my son to 'At Last' at the start of their recent wedding. It was so fantastic, we all burst into spontaneous applause. A wonderful song!

Every time I see your name, rosesarered, I get an earworm of that song by Ronnie Carroll!

Oh, so many. I liked instrumentals, On the Rebound , Walk Don't Run, Perfidia, FBI.
Then there was Concrete and Clay, Groovy Kind of Love, Road Runner, The Tracks of My Tears.
'Our' song though is Charles Trenet singing La Mer......[romantic emoticon]
I have all these in my phone and when I'm reduced to sitting in an armchair all day gazing out of the window, will listen to them and relive my youth

Whod've thought psychadelic Status Quo back then would turn into the rockers that they are now! I can still listen to Small Faces stuff. In fact, I don't have many 'best of' cd's but the ones I do have are The Kinks, The Small Faces, The Yardbirds [my favourites] and The Shadows. Need a quick blast of Ithycoo Park now.

Hollydaze I was a great fan of Gene Pitney and went to see him in Ipswich with two of my school friends when he was on tour in about 1965.

He was found dead in a Cardiff hotel a few years ago, apparently of a massive heart attack. I thought it was so sad that he'd died so far away from his home and family.

Never a fan of Gene Pitney, but someone pointed out to me how mesmerising his face was. I watched him sing 'Someone gotta hold of my heart' and realised what she meant. Beautiful song, that.

HollyDaze I spent a very boring summer once going out with a boy who loved both Mr Tambourine Man and cricket. Was heartily sick of all three by September.

Oh, there's a great song - Carole King and It Might as Well Rain until September - and You've Got a Friend.

Oh, I absolutely love Carole King. Almost all of her songs - she wrote so many! (and probably still is...)

Eloethan - I didn't know he'd died and, as you have said, so far from home, very sad indeed. He did some lovely songs didn't he.

I love it even more when DD2 sings 'You've got a friend'!

Did anyone like Roy Oribison? I'd never really listened to his songs but one that stuck in my mind all these years was I Drove All Night - he'd got a good voice!

Some of those singers I never liked much when I was younger are growing on me as I get older!
I used to think Dire Straits were absolutely dire (a friend loved them) but I quite enjoy listening to the occasional number of theirs now.

Actually, come to think of it, I wasn't that young in the 80s!

Love the Kinks. We still go to see Ray Davies when he comes to Birmingham. He is a great performer and has the place singing along to all the oldies including Waterloo Sunset, Thank you for the Days and everyone up dancing to the likes of Lola
