Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (ie the sequel)

I saw it last week with 2 friends and we all loved it, a real feel good factor, funny, poignant, colourful, happy and fun. Not too much story, I agree, and all a bit unbelievable,but that didn't spoil it for us. I should imagine they all enjoyed making it. Richard Gere does nothing for me,and as someone said, Bill Nighy is exactly the same in whatever role he plays. My favourite was Dev Patel, (Sonny) his enthusiasm and exuberance was a joy to watch.

I'm with you on this gma. I loved the first film but thought the acting in this one was very 'wooden', with no particular plot. I was more interested in the next two films being advertised (later next year) one about a 'bag lady' played by Maggie Smith and the other - 'Suffragettes'.

Oh dear. I didnt like it. I got bored and fell asleep in the cinema. Hope I didn't snore !!
Enjoyed the first one though. Can't think why people fancy Bill Nighy as he only seems to have one facial expression. Not my cuppa tea.
Each to their own, but I felt it was a good idea first time round but flogged to death in the second. Don't make a third please..

Just came to join in having come back from seeing the film - only to discover I started the thread several months ago!

Well I quite enjoyed it, yes the Bollywood style dancing was good and I liked the music throughout. I suppose the plot was rather thin but it kept me engaged. The two rival hotel inspectors plot did make it a little bit like Fawlty Towers but I like all the cast (although no-one has mentioned Ronald Pickup whom I'm not sure about as a ladies man) and I liked some of the romances even if they did seem a bit like a fantasy.

Penelope Wilton's character still makes me cringe (but she does it well) .... I preferred Bill Nighy in the first one when his character was more understated.

Overall I like the general theme about living life to the full and not feeling it's too late to seize the day.

@CoolGran65 -- 'Bollywood'? I would love to see Judi Dench and Maggie Smith clad in silk saris, dancing to bhangra music - it just seems unlikely somehow... Are you sure you meant 'Bollywood'?

I can't stand Bill Nighy - he really has no acting skill. He just drivels on in that flat emotionless voice of his in whatever part he plays.

Richard Gere...... his nose isn't great either.... And yet.... hmmmmm... maybe it's his bearing is good.

Now.... Bill Nighy would be fun. He'd be a laugh.

I've been today and we enjoyed it. There were some funny one liners, Maggie to Judy ...."just because I'm looking at you doesn't mean I'm listening...."
I don't know what anyone sees in Richard Gere, he has a mean mouth and piggy eyes.

There was a dreadful Age UK advert on before the film, banging on about old age and how we can't avoid it, and how awful it is! There was a lot of booing!

I love Bill Nighy, too. He reminds me of John LeMesurier (Sgt Wilson in Dad's Army). I find both of them quite sexy. Blimey, I must be getting old.

I did love Sonny. What an endearing young man. I thought the plot was thin. However it was all ok. I enjoyed the dancing at the end too

Yes I was a bit confused by the two hotel inspectors however it was blindingly obvious that Sonny had got that situation farcically wrong.

baubles is probably correct about the investor.....but then who was the woman who spoke with an English accent but reverted to American, who came to stay to 'check on behalf of her mother' .... was she an Inspector ?? for whom.....

Marelli the investor was the person Muriel and Sonny had the meeting with in San Diego at the beginning of the film. A much more handsome silver fox than Richard Gere..He also turned up at the end to see Muriel (just a wee bit unlikely but never mind).

Just back fro seeing Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. whilst I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, this I thought was mediocre , too long, barely credible and not really worth the effort of going. such a disappointment !!! The best thing about it was the music and dancing finale! Let's just hope that there is not a Third Best..............!!

Slight moment of panic thinking I'd spelt tentacle as tenticles and then worried that it was a Freudian slip of the worst kind .

Not keen on Richard Gere. He's got funny little eyes.

Sorry for bringing the tone down (again) but that word always reminds me of the first YHA trip I ever took to the sea with inner city kids. Miss, look there is a star with its testicles around a cockle. I did try to explain the difference- but message never got through ;) (sorry I digress).
