Still watching on big screen?

I meant to add. About the sound bar. You don't 'fit' them, they are a stand alone. I would say though, if you watch/ listen to music through the set I can hear the benefits.

We bought the LG.The sound is beautiful. They tried to sell us a sound bar but when we got it home and set it up there was absolutely no need.

What is the sound like? I have a newish Sony, cannot remember the size and the sound is awful. I have not a clue about sound bars or where to fit them.

Just bought a 50inch curved TV. The 3D on it is scary.

Our TV down here is a 32", no room for anything bigger, but hubby has a 47" upstairs that he uses for his PS4 games. He loves football, we hate it, so WHY does he insist on coming downstairs to watch football, sometimes meaning that we have to record our programmes, when he would surely enjoy it more on a bigger screen? The word PERVERSE comes to mind!

grannyactivist you don't need to buy a licence for your tv if you only use it to watch DVD's..

My DS no longer buys a TV licence as he uses his TV only for catch-up programmes.
Apparently that is legal and you just have to write to the authority and tell them that is what you are doing.

For a while, I had no TV and never thought of buying a licence as I only watched catch-up on my laptop. Then when I accidentally clicked on a programme that was being broadcast at that very moment, a box came up asking me to click to say that I had a licence. I hastily backed off in case someone burst in thru the door asking to see the licence.

My DD and her family have the biggest TV I have ever seen - they have tablets and phones but watch their big TV usually

loopylou not having had a TV for many years, I too have received many similar letters. Eventually there did come a knock at the door one day and a very nice man announced himself as being from the TV Licensing Agency and, having checked his ID, I immediately invited him in and told him he was welcome to look anywhere in the house. He declined, thanked me for my time and told me I wouldn't hear from them again - and I didn't. Then a couple of years ago when I had two teenage (football mad) foster sons living here I finally bought a small TV/DVD player and although I now DO have a TV license we still only use the thing for watching DVD's. I actually forget it's a TV.

DD and DS don't own TVs and have had the devil of a job convincing the TV Licensing people that this is the case! Both had threatening letters about their houses being searched if they didn't buy a license.

Our TV isn't enormous but it is a smart one, though we don't use all the functions. I do like Netflix especially when the DGC are here. The picture is superb - HD - and I find it good to watch. But very often (because of sport etc!!) one of us will watch / listen to stuff on our iPads, with earphones. A lot of the time, I just read.

Interestingly, we only use the laptops now for "work" (voluntary but national and international and needing a business like approach) or domestic bills and so on. So they tend to remain in the study and we go to them.

have a large old CRT tv (sony trinitron) in the big/visitors sitting room which also (horrors) is home to a settee and two art deco wooden chairs (with cushions) - the sound on this TV is fantastic but it loses a bit of the picture
I did have another crt tv which lost its 'tube' so was unceremoniously carted off (by one hefty man) to the dump.
my small snug/sitting room when I am on my own was therefore TV-less so I bought a 2nd hand lcd TV which was only 19" but I thought would be big enough. now realise because they are rectangular rather than square I should have got the next size up so I sit fairly close - however the sound is very tinny even with a couple of powered extension speakers plugged into the headphone socket. will have to wait until they improve the sound before I shell out on a bigger screen (2nd hand of course.)

We own a house that we rent out to an agency that houses professionals relocating to London. When we were furnishing it, they said no TV required because "viewing has become a solitary activity" and most people were now self sufficient with various gadgets if they wanted to watch something. Made me feel a little bit sad!

We have a handful of shows that we watch together on the telly. If there's sports on, he has the telly and I happily take to my laptop and watch a movie.

I seldom watch the news on TV. Especially not when every conceivable "expert" is rolled out to pontificate. I'd rather find out what's going on from t'internet.

I'm just getting used to emails and suddenly they are old fashioned and people have stopped using them!
We don't have a huge TV, I don't like them and we have quite a small sitting room. Thankfully we also have a TV cabinet which was expensive so that governs the size screen we can fit in. DH does gaze longingly at them though in shops. I think huge TVs are a 'man thing'.

we still watch the TV together in the living room in the main but occasionally one of us will watch something in our respective studies on lap tops or tablets but not for long periods. Its more comfortable to sit on the sofa with a cuppa and watch a big screen without my specs on.

I receive and send e-mails daily plus use Facebook and twitter (less so) the family seems to use all three methods depending on what they want to either say or drop into the ether for me to pick up!!!

We have a smart TV and most things we watch are on the big screen including YouTube as we can find it on the TV or send it to the TV from our smartphones.

I rarely watch tv, I watch on catchup on this computer,. or on my tablet if I am away or in bed. Occasionally I record things. It's partly because DBH hogs the tv for sport and trains and Time team.

I prefer to watch on the big screen, why watch a small screen when there`s a big one available? And I send and receive emails every day.

We watch telly on the big screen - doesn't that sound old fashioned now? A bit like 'putting the big light on'

I watch telly on the laptop if DH is watching football or if it's a programme he can't stand and I like using headphones especially for catching up with the Archers. I don't know what I'd do without iPlayer and the like.

My DGCs hardly ever watch telly in the living room which I think is great shame. On Boxing Day afternoon we all slumped in front of Downton Abbey but one by one the DGCs sloped off to their rooms.

I can't remember when I last sent an e-mail.

Must admit I tend to catch up with things I want to watch as and when I want to, on ipad or laptop, that way I'm not tied to having to watch when its on for real IYSWIM. Also now you say I hardly ever email anymore I just send a FB message or text.
