Was anyone else shouting 'b**ch at Lady Mary. She was an awful character last night.
Soo disappointed for Lady Edith.

I could not get my head round the idea that Mary deliberately and spitefully ruined her sister's life, but we were supposed to believe that everyone (including Edith) forgave her and cheered her wedding a few days later. Not credible in my book and a poor end to a good series.

I was disappointed with the last episode. I would have liked Edith to triumph and stick one on Mary by becoming a marchioness.

Her love interest changed from a strong, supportive, good humoured character to a quivering wimp who was terrified of his mother so maybe she had a lucky escape.

Presumably there's a lot on hold for the Christmas special but I hope it's not all about Mary.

I'm wondering if someone else is writing the current series, Eloethan. There is more action and the plot moves faster and, as we agree, there are some scenes that don't quite fit.

nottooold I agree about the cooking the dinner scene. For one thing, I think someone as pompous as him wouldn't have done it and for another I thought his wife wouldn't have had the nerve to be so bossy, otherwise she would presumably have put him straight in the first place.

Not only was the Carson cooking bit unfunny, it was quite unbelievable! Would someone as set in their ways as he is really buckle down and actually do it, despite Mrs Hughes only having a 'sprained wrist'...?

He'd more likely have bundled the two of them off to DA's servants' hall for supper...

I can't think why Mrs Carson married Mr Carson as he's a completely unreconstructed dinosaur. Surely she must have realised that before agreeing to the nuptials? That bit where he had to cook the dinner was very unfunny, I thought. Was it just me?

As for Lady Mary, she gets more up herself every episode. I do hope nice Tom doesn't marry her but it looks like it might be going that way. Or is Lady Edith's new editor destined for Tom?

I had a really splendid cruise, thank you, although the Captain was rather a bore, but I met some old friends , The Duke and Duchess of Norfolk (Lavinia and Bertie, or Bongo as his pals know him.) We had a few late night card games and drinks, and I won just over a thousand guineas, which cheered me up no end.My ladies maid almost went over the side one day, she claimed it was the rough seas, but I told her to take more water with it in future! I fell asleep in a very comfortable chair on deck, and when I awoke my nose and cheeks were very pink,I will be wearing pale powder to cover this for quite a while.
Always so nice to return home again, I do hope my son liked the puppy that I sent him ( perhaps It will do the unmentionable on one of Cora's gowns....

Reminds me of when I worked in Saudi in the late 80s/early 90s. In one hospital I had a multi-national team and sometimes they would ask me about where I lived etc. They were really disbelieving. Some of the Filipina staff wanted to earn a bit extra by cleaning my 'house' - my bedsit - because 'you're used to it at home and I need to send money home for the younger ones' education'. I had a real job to explain to some of them when they asked what sort of a house I had, and 'where do your servants sleep?' I really could not convince them that I had no servants. They imagined me having a little shed behind a hedge at the bottom of the garden, this was when I said my house is very small. They also didn't understand why I was still working 'at my age' and why I didn't stay at home and let my daughters look after me.
It does not surprise me that in the States they have absolutely no idea of how the vast majority of us live now. Not in the days of Jane Austen!

Poor Thomas- offers to teach someone to read and is immediately suspected of having an ulterior motive. Maybe he is just becoming nicer!!??

Edith is positively "rough" compared with her refined sister. Brahaspatinda. But I agree equally as pretty.

Ana, I suppose lovely Imelda Staunton finds the 'rumbling sweet nothings' are liveable with, what with being married to Carson (Jim Carter, actually a v.nice chap)! And they have a splendid garden.
I wasn't a DA camp follower until persuaded into it by Spanish students, who all adore it and have to be reminded that it's completely bonkers fiction .
Am I the only one to find Edith far nicer looking than Mary and not plain at all?

I agree Teetime it is one of the few programms that I actually look forward to watching. Mind you The Abbey has seen it's share of scandal over the years toom hasn't it?

I wish Lady Edith would hurry up and tell Snotty Lady Mary about Marigold.

I'm so glad I found this thread. It's really brightened up my morning. I love the programme, especially the fab and unsuitable clothes. Did Lady M make a special shopping trip for "clothes for the pig farm" ? However, am I the only one who finds Lady Cora increasingly irritating? Can't wait for Maggie Smith's lines each week!

I love this programme for its sheer nonsense value and its such a light relief from all the murders and terrorist based themes. My favourite part is listening to the two daughters' accents which get posher every week and Lady Mary does that little moue and toss of her head to show she will brook no argument. I am trying to perfect it here. Priceless!
