My life has been really busy and now I've hit a bit of a quiet stretch, which is bliss. So I've become hooked on this Australian show every day (I think, I have it on series record). It's one of those sprawling (wealthy) family sagas full of simmering passions, hidden secrets and all the rest, complete with a matriarch running the show (of course!)

Am really enjoying the beautiful settings and the main location, a beautiful mansion out in Australian bush somewhere. It is set in the 1950s.

Am I the only one watching it? grin

Grannyknot Fri 19-Feb-16 16:42:22

mamie mine used to moan about it too, till I told him to shut up because "It's just like The Borgias in a different setting" ... anyway he's hooked now too grin

It's the landscape we love, reminiscent of South Africa.

Mamie Fri 19-Feb-16 16:50:08

Yes I can understand that.
I do wonder about how many clothes they are wearing at Christmas though. Must have been jolly hot.

ninathenana Fri 19-Feb-16 18:26:09

I agree Mamie
Did you notice they agreed the garden party on New Years day and the date was set for a fortnight. Yet there was still a Christmas tree in the house at the party smile
And what does ?? expect to gain from his arrangement with Olivia

Mamie Fri 19-Feb-16 18:40:29

No didn't notice the tree!
Can't comment on what Andrew? Has to gain as I have read the Series 3 episode guide. (I always read the end of detective stories too). grin

Andrew? Has blackmail in mind!

l too watched this last year and was quite bereft when it ended as I had enjoyed it so much! This topic has made me google it and I discovered that the new Series 3 is being aired from 25th February BBC2 at 3 pm. Going to set the tv recorder now, so I don't miss any episodes!
(sorry, haven't read all posts, so apologise if the above has already been posted)

ninathenana Sat 20-Feb-16 00:44:18

Oooh, thanks for the heads up Nanabelle

ninathenana Sat 20-Feb-16 00:46:35

Andrew that's the one !
DH says blackmail but it's not like he needs the money

Grannyknot Sat 20-Feb-16 08:08:12

No Nina that's true he doesn't. But he could get to "the prize" he is after by blackmailing. Luckily she's a strong character!

grannylyn65 Sat 20-Feb-16 08:44:33

Mamie Tue 23-Feb-16 15:20:20

Shock 'horror. René ee ees not French.. shock

ninathenana Tue 23-Feb-16 18:57:23

Regina.............
What a nasty piece of work, what was happening at the end of todays episode will not sway George. At least it shouldn't.

Nanabelle Thu 25-Feb-16 00:15:45

oh my - what a shocker today's episode was. Really didn't expect that. I wonder where the story will go now?

Nanabelle Thu 25-Feb-16 00:16:34

for Today's episode - read Wednesday's - ….. how I wish we had an edit button!

ninathenana Thu 25-Feb-16 00:34:48

We'll find out today (Thursday) smile
Won't spoil it but I think he did it question is did he mean too or was there a struggle.
He has to survive or the story is dead.

Marelli Thu 25-Feb-16 07:36:37

After seeing you all talking about it here, I found 'A Place to Call Home' on On Demand ( Virgin). Really enjoying it, and have so far watched 7 episodes of the first series. We weren't able to find it on Netflix though, grannylin65 confused. I'll need to try and find out how to record series 3.

HannahLoisLuke Thu 25-Feb-16 16:59:53

Anyone else thinking the same as I am about the new maid?

Mamie Thu 25-Feb-16 17:40:10

Yup, I reckon that is who she is too. grin
Getting a bit cross about the cod French though. Yesterday they were saying, j'adore... to each other. J'adore what? Les Kangourous?

pollyparrot Thu 25-Feb-16 17:46:56

Yes, I think she's the mother of the baby. Does anyone wonder who actually shot George? Regina?

Nanabelle Thu 25-Feb-16 22:30:52

I reckon the two men were fighting and Regina meant to shoot the French man, but got the wrong one. Quite a troubling sad episode today - so much possible trouble ahead for everyone.

ninathenana Fri 26-Feb-16 00:05:58

René and George struggled over the rifle when George found him about to commit suicide. Regina picked it up after I'd already decided that smile and that's what she eventually told that pig of a cop.
Yes ,the new maid is Georgie's mum.

ninathenana Fri 26-Feb-16 00:07:27

Punctuation is all wrong in that post, sorry blush

Discovered Series 3 on BBC2. Can anyone give me a brief rundown on how Sarah and Mr. Bligh broke up, and how Rene came back into Sarah's life, please? I managed to see some of the first series, up until the young Italian and Miss Bligh got engaged and she went away to the city to find some contraception.... smile

Margsus Wed 09-Mar-16 16:36:49

Right Marelli, are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.....

Sarah and George broke up because it was discovered (can't remember who by) that Sarah's husband had not been killed by the Nazis as she thought, but was still alive, living with his sister in Paris. Sarah dashed off to Paris to see him, only to discover that he was ill with what appeared to be post-traumatic stress - and bullet fragments in his brain. She brought him back to Inverness to recover. If you've seen the last couple of episodes you'll know what happens next.

If I've got anything wrong, no doubt someone will correct me...

The final episode of series 3 is tomorrow. Love this programme, and was thrilled to hear that series 4 has just started filming!
