I may be wrong, often am, but I think they (ahem) "had" to get married
although of course they had to be "walking out" together for that situation to arise!

Archers Addicts 4!!
(1001 Posts)"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"
Phoenix, definitely a soft spot for Lilian. There's a woman who hasn't had it easy but still lives her life to the full. I wish she'd found a better partner in crime than Justin but hey, she's got a frock and gin allowance plus a salary, good luck to her.
Susan - now there's a case! What does Neil see in her? [frown]
Thanks merlot.
suzied - if you felt I was criticising you, absolutely not. Just posting my own views on your interesting thread. Alistair is definitely flakey and I wonder what he's up to when he's AWOL. Sad but true, addictions often return, even after breaks of some time and therapy. Is he gambling, or does he have Another Woman? I do feel for Shula because I feel her Christianity is often used as a stick to beat her with. She tries and fails, don't most of us.
I agree, Henry needs a dog, who lives at Bridge Farm but is Henry's dog. Rather than the usual country pursuits, hunting for example, which Rob is keen for Henry to get involved in, they could do agility and general obedience for example. Yes, a boy and his dog form a bond that should never be messed with. Ok, what breed do we think? Jack Russells are hugely popular country dogs, often paired with a gun dog of some kind. Jack's are clever and love agility, their speed is an advantage but their personalities don't make them ideal pets for children. Collie's much the same, brilliant for older children, not for 6 year olds. Labradors are too big for small children, can knock them over without meaning to and a pulling lab too strong for a little lad. A well bred cocker spaniel may be just the thing. Pat, Tony or Tom should be able to help. Better yet, what about Johnny. He seems a natural with animals and he and Henry could learn together and form a killer bond - no I didn't mean that, I mean a strong bond/
Agree suzied, Shula can be irritating, and Alistair is a bit "bland" at times!
Must admit to a soft spot for Lilian though!
I think I might have mentioned it before but I think Pat and Tony should have got Henry a dog to be kept at Bridge Farm.
A boy and his dog are a bond to be reckoned with.
I am going to continue the discussion on the Archers and not bother about being criticised for doing so. I find Shula annoying as she goes on about stuff like giving up alcohol for lent and church going. Then is gushingly inviting Dr L for dinner/ the opera etc he's obviously not interested. Mind you I've always thought Alistair a bit flakey, going away for weekends and conferences - who knows what he gets up to? Must listen to the results show tonight!
Sorry Iam. We posted at the same time.
I was (jokingly) adding to a comment made by Lucky
merlot - did I use 'bloody' , if so apologies, though I don't think I did and I can't find it. Am I missing a joke, I do hope so.
Ruth & Daaaaavid have a collie, Tig, he was heard fairly recently!
Can we just get rid of that bloody
?
I've had enough to last a lifetime.
suzied, I've looked at your list and find all the subject so interesting and ripe for discussion.
I don't want to cause any aggravation but my list would move Shula into 'interesting' and the older Grundy's into your annoying section. I know you don't have an interesting section but I'm a defender of Shula and felt a bit sad to see her in the annoying section.
I don't know what it is about Shula that has me coming to her defence. I can see she has behaved badly (affair with Dr Locke when he was with her friend Usha, lying to the police about Rob assaulting the sab are prime examples) I do feel though, she's had a lot to put up with, especially with Alistair.
I do enjoy Joe Grundy and maybe I'm being unfair, he is very old so could run the bath over (I've known young people do that) he longs to live out the rest of his days in what he sees as the Grundy's ancestral home. I just wish he'd be a bit more supportive of Clarrie.
Clarrie would be on my list of saints in the Archers.
I know the farmers aren't sheep farmers, so we're unlikely to have many collie dogs on the farms but I'm amazed that Brian (I agree, very funny, despite having loathed him during his many affairs) doesn't have a faithful labrador, or possibly a springer spaniel who would work on the various shoots. Since Captain died, the focus has been Scruff, a german shepherd cross. Ambridge would be awash with labs and spaniels wouldn't it?
Shall we start a new thread?......."Phoenix and Luckygirl's kindly Archers fans? [smile}
Sorry, but I'm pretty miffed
I very rarely get riled on here, but really, it's getting beyond reason.
A thread about The Archers full of aggro!! - is this possible??
RIGHT THEN, graces!
ME : Graces you seem to imply that causing shock = bullying confused
Graces:phoenix you asked me the above
Excuse me, I see no question?
Graces:
I imagine you have found swearing stops people saying things you do not agree with in the past and now use it as a tool hoping to get exactly that reaction.
You can imagine what you like, and probably do.But you are wrong.
Graces: phoenix Why else would you stoop to the language of the gutter - unless, and I did put this caveat in my previous post, it is your everyday language and you don't know you are doing it. In which case you have my sympathy.
It is NOT my everyday language, I'm actually quite erudite on a good day, and only swear when driven beyond all exasperation. You use the phrase "language of the gutter" I actually put "FFS" which for all you know could have meant "for flips sake" you chose your own interpretation. And by the way, you've obviously never caught Jings when she is on form!
And as for offering me your sympathy, well you can stick that wherever you like, in fact let me offer you some sympathy, because if you approach everything in life like you do this thread, then I really think you might need some!
Sickly smiley face? Don't think I'll bother, if it's all the same.
Throw Ursula and.sling Rob
What a shame they've already had the village fete.
P.S..is it safe to come back. I do enjoy this thread.
Yes I want to discuss the characters that annoy me / make me laugh etc . This obviously changes with the storyline
Annoy - Rob, Ursula
Pip
The Fairbrothers
Shula
A laugh -
Lilian
Kate
Jennifer
Brian
The older Grundys
I do wish some people would stop sniping. This used to be a fun thread, Phoenix's approach being the funniest. Please let us go back to that! I still read the thread but rarely post these days, so please forgive me for butting in
I'm losing track of Ruari's age. Child care never seems to be a problem for his family though
Yes, indeed, personal attacks are not a good thing, either directed at an individual or at a whole bunch of posters holding a conversation about a subject that interests them all.
Everyone who reads the discussion can comment on it, GG
You commented adversely on people even having the discussion. That was your opinion. I commented on your shock at seeing a hint of a reference to what may possibly have been a swear word - that was mine. You don't really feel bullied by it? I'd have thought you were less fragile than that.
Now I intend to go and put a load of washing in the machine and leave those who want to discuss the interaction of these imaginery characters to their talk. If you really dislike what you read so much the remedy is yours - do likewise.
