If Diana was unbalanced what does that make a man who "wishes he was Camillas tampon" ? [gross emoticon]
Well said gillybob
Good Morning Wednesday 8th July 2026
My cousin is acting out and having rage fits, what can I do to help her?!
Just watching this now. My God what a shit Charles is!
Absolutely no respect for him.
If Diana was unbalanced what does that make a man who "wishes he was Camillas tampon" ? [gross emoticon]
Well said gillybob
It's a fairytale turned into a tragedy. I thought Diana came across really well in this programme, what a beautiful, elegant, caring woman, but obviously, it's all from her point of view.
I think Charles was pressurised into marriage as he approached his thirties and he had to chose a young woman without a sexual history from a "suitable" family. Not easy to find.
No wonder it all went wrong. In the past it (the affairs, the self harm, the tantrums, the coldness of the Royal Family) would have been kept hushed up but modern media exposes lives, warts and all.
It must be tough for Charles at the moment.
Good!
Do you think public disapproval of Charles and Camilla will cause problems if/when he becomes King? Should he become King? Or pass the crown straight on to William?
There must be lots of agonising over this in Royal circles.
What a great actress she was, and how many marriages she wrecked. How could she say that she was brought up to believe that marriage is for life. Her parents and her brother were certainly no role models. When it all boils down to it, she should never have married Charles who was far too old for her, and his advisers should bear a lot of the blame. All in all, a tragic and sad waste of a young life.
Still after 20 years Diana has a grip on the nation with the help of the dismal Express.
A very sad personal story. A very young 18 year old naive girl who believed in fairy stories.
People seem to forget that she herself was brought up in a totally dysfunctional family herself and unprepared for her future role. Too naive and lack of a proper education. Her own mother shone by her absence.
I guess that she was chosen as she was born into one of the oldest families in the land. Breeding?
I am sure that Charles parents knew about the Camilla attachment even before the marriage.
The main issue with the Royals is survival of the Monarchy and the production of heirs and nothing stands in their ways. Personal considerations are not important. One can't really blame them. Unelected, born into a life with incredible privilege and luxury partly financed by the tax payer.
We live in the age of celebrities and Diana was the first global one.
I personally couldn't stand Diana, to me she was both manipulative, immature and frankly behaved like the local bicycle. She played the media like a fishing expedition, had little or no dignity. She came from an upper class family, had known Prince Charles and moved in royal circles since childhood and knew perfectly well how the royal family operated, but as you say annie canonization wouldn't be good enough!!!!!!!
Sorry but you are wrong, Charles never said he wished he was a tampon. If the tape is still on the internet do listen, you will hear I am right on this.
Good points. How many acres of newsprint did she fill?
A true source which kept on giving.
Charles would have to abdicate to pass the crown to William just like Edward V111, and having waited all these years I can't see that happening, especially as William clearly doesn't want to be king any sooner than he has to. I think Charles along with Camilla will make an excellent king, William? probably an indifferent, reluctant one!
We agree niggly ? So broken hearted she had a fling at 24 with a married man, then a few years with .hewitt whom she adored . No problem with being the third in other marriages . Spoilt, self-centred and demanding , plus given to telling porkies .
You're such a generous-hearted person, Annie
Just like honesty devongirl
Diana was a very damaged girl and I suspect no one could fill her emotional needs. She was also very manipulative. It was all very sad and would have been better if the programme had not been shown
And annie, even if he had, it was a private conversation, not meant for public consumption. I don't think many of us would want parts of our private lives exposed to public scrutiny?! It's just not fair to keep judging this man by personal conversations to one person, (not several,)held over 20 years ago, which were actually nobody else's business, but curiously became the common gossip of the world and his wife! (literally!) while the saintly Diana had one affair on top of another, wrecked peoples marriages, and had it gone on, almost certainly embarrassed and jeopardised her sons futures
I think that both Charles and Diana were very silly people. Charles was forced into a 'suitable' marriage which he didn't want, and Diana was old enough to know what was going on.
She was not the first, nor will she be the last to have a broken marriage, but she had no money worries, and had so many people dancing attendance on her. I don't see her as innocent at all - just a tremendous drama queen. She was very manipulative, self-pitying, and very fond of other women's husbands.
Charles just seems to be a bit of a nincompoop, and possibly not a good prospect as King. Anyway, we've had Ethelred the Unready, Richard the Lionheart, and now we may be faced with Charles the Gormless.
Camilla? Well, she might not have Diana's beauty, but she seems to be a pleasant enough old trout. I don't see her as being particularly blameworthy - she was part of a triangle of leisured wealth in which adultery and intrigue seemed to be the norm
It's not that important anyway. At the end of the day they are just people like anyone else, and face the same pitfalls and temptations as we all do. They just do it with more funds!
Niggly, the squidgy tapes seem to be forgotten , where she complains 'all I have done for this f*****g family.
Love your Grimm's fairy tale, Miss Adventure.
I hope the two timing b---er never becomes King. William would be a great King I am sure, and have lots of support from Kate.
William and Harry are a credit to Diana.
totally agree
Right on niggly
Interesting discussion, whatever our beliefs, and whether or not we are royalists once Lizzie has gone we'll be a nation of Charlies!
Just why do people think William will be a great king. It is title with no power. I personally don't think he will be any better than Charles and actually seems to put his personal life before anything else. Who else can give up work to spend more time with his family and flit from house to house which is brought up to the ultimate in luxury for them.
I have enormous admiration for the Queen but it ends there and Diana would have made a dreadful consort, she was too damaged by her upbringing.
And Diana didn't?!!!!!! or was it ok for her, but not for him?!
A lot of royal (and other) ladies have had straying husbands which actually doesn't excuse extreme bad behaviour on their part. The Queen and Prince Phillip have had their dodgy moments, think Rita Heywood!! but I don't recall retaliation by HM! Perhaps Queen Alexandra could have been forgiven for the odd transgression! (I THINK she did have an admirer, not sure) Edward V11 certainly tried her tolerance I would think beyond endurance with his raft of mistresses, but no, she conducted herself with dignity discretion, and loyalty. People loved her for it. Diana might have done better to a leaf out of this royal ladys book.
