I wasn't sure what to expect because I haven't read the book, but I can't wait to see how it ends. Just can't see a happy ending for Nella. The whole thing is beautifully done - and definitely intriguing.

Loved it, not only story, acting etc, but the sets, lighting and cinematography, looking forward to tonight's finale.

My sister has read the book, and recommended it to me as she was looking forward to seeing how they dramatised it. I watched it and was enthralled. It's quite creepy, but intriguing. I am also looking forward to tonight's conclusion. DGS is here for the night. I hope he goes to bed early enough for me to watch it, otherwise I'll have to watch it on catch up.

Well, I started to watch it with the best of intentions but for some strange reason I fell asleep less than 20 mins in . I've now just watched it on catch up whilst not too tired (read into that what you may) and really enjoyed it. Haven't read the book... did slightly wonder if the novel was bit overtly PC ... black slave , gay man, but nevertheless looking forward to this evenings episode if I'm not tòo tired.

I've jusy watched the recording of this. I didn't know what to expect either as I haven't read it. I must say not what I expected but I enjoyed it. Will watch part 2.

I hear it's creepy - is this in a supernatural sense? I don't like that sort of thing when I'm on my own in the dark!

It's not that kind of creepy chelsea. You should be OK on your own.

Visually wonderful so I kept watching although there seemed little action or even conversation for a long time.
It then got going with intriguing mysteries and shocking action. We’re eagerly anticipating tonight’s finale - and I think I should read the book!

This is the only thing I have watched over the last two days (nothing else on worth watching for me) and hadn't heard of it before. At first I thought it was going to be boring but soon got into it and the first part went quite quickly (good sign) and I'm looking forward to watching second part.

I didn't like the book at all and have been in two minds as to whether I'd watch or not. I might have a go on catch-up if the general consensus is favourable.

Thought it was really good. Read the book twice and still loved the TV version, although I'm not sure we really needed the heaving bosoms! I seem to remember that the book left you not quite knowing what had really happened, whereas the TV version seemed to tie up the loose ends. Very nice to see the BBC doing such a good job. AND I could hear all the words!

Well worth watching. Agree with Morgana; the TV version made the story much more understandable than the book, which I didn't particularly enjoy. Also, the heaving bosoms!

No chance of seeing this here outside the UK unless they dub it and televise it, or it is released on DVD. However, as I found the book didn't live up to the hype, I won't be rushing out to buy the DVD.

It was worth watching just for the accuracy of the costumes and interiors. The way the camera often allowed a character to walk through into another room and briefly turning the scene into a painting. We did have to turn the sound up and I still missed several lines which may have been crucial to the plot but on the whole I really enjoyed it. Oh, the powers of observation! When I went to fill the kettle afterwards I wondered if anyone was watching! I was really grateful that too deaths weren't drawn out and in slow motion as often happens. I felt the ending petered out rather than concluded, as if a second series would be promised.

Having read the book I'm interested to see the adaptation, obviously I know what's coming, it's not a happy tale, but I thought it was a good read. I've recorded it, we've had our son and girlfriend staying since Boxing Day and haven't watched any tv. Looking forward to catching up with this and Little Women
