Does anyone have a favourite Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera? I’ve watched eleven of them on a DVD set over the last week and my favourites are:
1. The Mikado
2. Pirates of Penzance
3. HMS Pinafore
I have seen all three of these before live at the theatre.
My least favourite would be Yoemen of the Guard.

Have you seen the DVD called Topsy Turvy about the making of Mikado? It starred Timothy Spaall and I can highly recommend it. Beautifully done.

There was a festival of G&S at Harrogate recently and we took the DH's for their first taste. It was the pirates and although the diction wasn't the best I've heard we all enjoyed it. The festival hall is lovely.

I’ve sung them all over the years, and Gondoliers is my very favourite. I moved from Casilda ( twice) to the Duchess, and then to Inez!
I also liked the Grand Duke, but wasn’t wild about Princess Ida. That might be because it was a ‘ modern’ production.
I think it’s so sad that these operettas are rarely seen nowadays.
