Does anybody watch the soaps?

OK guilty pleasure, I used to quite enjoy Corrie and Emmerdale. Both are utterly tedious and ridiculous now.

Who on earth writes this stuff?

No!!

I’ve now given up on all of them. The storylines went round in circles, same story, just different characters. I used to enjoy Brookside but it probably finished at the right time.

I was never massively invested in them but I used to enjoy Corrie. I cannot believe the dire writing and " story lines". I feel embarassed for the actors watching it!

I used to watch Corrie, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Home and Away, Neighbours and Brookside.

Then realised I was wasting so much of my life watching these, that they got pruned right back.

Now I watch Corrie and Emmerdale. But I honestly don't know why. The storylines are beyond ridiculous sometimes, and I don't think there are any characters I actually like in either of them!

My friend and I Whatsapp throughout each episode, and I wish I had a pound for every time time one of us says "why are we still watching this" grin

I think it's habit, rather than enjoyment.

My guilty pleasure is watching coronation street and emmerdale . However if I miss them not bothered !
I think it’s an excuse to sit down and have a rest rather than the soap !

I never watch soaps. I haven't got the staying power.

Only ever watched Eastenders, but gave it up when Pauline died. Too violent now I believe.

Watch Neighbours, not the british soaps

Holby and Neighbours here. Haven’t watched Enders, Corrie or Emmersale for 25+ years although I loved them all when the family were young

I only watch EastEnders, Neighbours and Home and Away. I`ve never missed an episode of EastEnders from the start, if I can`t watch I record it. I watched Coronation Street from the first episode religiously for 10 years, then just stopped watching, around the time that Jack Walker died. Used to love Brookside till they took it off, saw every one of those as well.

Went cold turkey on Corrie donkeys years ago. Still with Enders, it started in Feb ‘85 by the way. I think “fix” describes it beautifully.

Not since my mum died nine years ago. I used to watch with her. I found I could always pick up the plot from where I left it on my previous visit.....

Me too Jane10 I know the story lines are often silly and depressing but I enjoy my fix. Still a bit of UK here in rural France.

It was such a relief when I stopped watching Corrie. IMO all the humour had gone and it was one crisis after another.

Melanieeastanglia Sat 22-Sept-18 21:06:58

I used to enjoy Brookside.

Years ago I watched Eastenders and Coronation Street but I began to find the story lines ridiculous and depressing.

kittylester Sat 22-Sept-18 20:51:53

Ooohhh, I forgot Holby. I live Holby!!

Auntieflo Sat 22-Sept-18 20:47:13

No

Jane10 Sat 22-Sept-18 19:54:50

Well I unashamedly watch Corrie, Eastenders and also Holby. Holby is the daftest of the lot!

Maybelle Sat 22-Sept-18 19:38:06

Used to watch corrie, but have up due to story lines many years ago. I do however watch Doctors, ridiculous stories but I like it!

Pittcity Sat 22-Sept-18 19:34:32

I have watched 'Enders since 1985 and everyone thinks I'm mad!

silverlining48 Sat 22-Sept-18 19:31:05

Listen to the Archers though.

silverlining48 Sat 22-Sept-18 19:29:51

Gave up eastenders last year after watching from the start in 1983 I think. I don’t miss it at all. Have never watched any of the others though my mum was a lifelong Corrie fan til dementia took over.

Greyduster Sat 22-Sept-18 19:27:27

I’m afraid I don’t watch any of them now - the storylines are beyond ridiculous. I watched the first episode of Corrie and followed it religiously for years but no longer. Same with Emmerdale. Never was an East Enders fan.

oldbatty Sat 22-Sept-18 19:09:29

Some of those "older " actors on Corrie should have stayed away. Embarassing.

JudyJudy12 Sat 22-Sept-18 18:54:34

I watch Corrie and Emmerdale, I moan about the sometimes ridiculous story lines but still keep watching.

Favourite characters, Mary in Corrie and the Dingles apart from Debbie in Emmerdale.
Cannot stand Ken Barlow in Corrie or the new Hannah in Emmerdale.
