Anyone watch the first part of this drama tonight? It’s not the musical version in case anyone was wondering but straight from Victor Hugo.

We have just started watching this via iPlayer and were rivetted. We also love the musical and the film, but this is a whole different ballgame and it is excellent, with some great acting. Looking forward to further episodes.

* Anja* wise words, though this TV version is the genre I prefer, so far!

Morgana Sun 03-Feb-19 18:28:11

very disappointed with the last two episodes. Let's hope the last one tonight is much better.

BlueBelle Sun 03-Feb-19 18:53:36

Just loved the whole programme. Brilliantly acted out. Thought I would miss the music but have to say I haven’t. Can’t wait for final episode tonight.

I’m with the loved it brigade ?.

Gonegirl Sun 03-Feb-19 22:45:32

And me. Was great.

BlueBelle Sun 03-Feb-19 22:45:37

Oh yes, just cried as he died I want it to start all over again
What on earth will I do with my Sunday nights
Loved every minute if it

harrigran Sun 03-Feb-19 22:51:48

Probably a lot of money spent on this production but there were continuity slip ups. I did not particularly enjoy the last two episodes.

annep1 Sun 03-Feb-19 22:58:16

Good television but made me sad and angry at times.
Have just finished watching The Long Song on iplayer. Would recommend this to fill a few Sunday evenings if you haven't already seen it.

Jalima1108 Sun 03-Feb-19 22:59:54

I loved it too
sad

However, I do want something a bit more cheerful now as a contrast for Sunday evening viewing!

Jalima1108 Sun 03-Feb-19 23:01:11

I usually notice continuity slip-ups, modern discrepancies in period dramas, but I was so enrapt I must have missed them harrigran.

SueDonim Sun 03-Feb-19 23:12:25

One of my sons Facetimed me at ten to ten, arrrggghhh! I was totally immersed in it until then.

I've really enjoyed it and thought it got better and better as it went on.

Urmstongran Sun 03-Feb-19 23:13:54

I cried my eyes out the last half hour of it tonight. ?

jeanio Sun 03-Feb-19 23:21:33

Yes I enjoyed it tonight but tears after that and The Midwife as well. What am I going to watch now?

sodapop Mon 04-Feb-19 06:49:55

I enjoyed it a lot, I'm sorry its finished. It's unusual to have two good programmes on the same evening like Midwife and Les Mis.

I rarely weep at film or TV.. but my eyes were leaking at reunion scene in the convent garden. I think it has been a high quality production from start to finish. The acting was strong and the direction good too. Worth whatever bit of my licence fee gets to the beeb!

JessK Mon 04-Feb-19 09:42:26

A fine adaptation true to the book. I loved it too.

PECS Mon 04-Feb-19 09:45:24

Harrigran what did you notice?

Kittye Mon 04-Feb-19 09:50:29

I’ve not read the book, but I’ve seen the stage production and the film. (many times) I enjoyed them both, but much preferred the tv version. Loved it! I thought the cast were outstanding

Labaik Mon 04-Feb-19 14:41:39

I'm so glad I didn't remember the ending. Was convinced that the phone would ring; it never rings except when I'm watching the last episode of something wonderful. But it didn't. Boy was I in tears. Even found myself loving Cosette who I'd found truly irritating up until the last half hour. What amazing acting/directing/producing etc etc. Hoping to see it on stage next year when it comes my way.

Sar53 Mon 04-Feb-19 15:47:29

I too loved it and found the ending very moving. I've watched the film and seen the stage show, which I absolutely adored, but this adaptation was just as good. Call the Midwife and Les Miserables, wonderful Sunday evening viewing.

merlotgran Mon 04-Feb-19 16:42:34

Loved it!

Mamie Mon 04-Feb-19 16:52:21

I thought the last episode was rather dark and I couldn't see what was happening. They also needed to teach the whole cast how to say Bonjour and Monsieur. It sounded like budge o'er mushuh half the time.

gulligranny Mon 04-Feb-19 22:08:10

We were enthralled all the way on this one. Acting of the highest quality, great production values and for once the background music enhanced the story-telling rather than distracted from it. A total triumph in our house.
