who cant stand the silly DJ character he plays? I find it mortifying just to watch how awful he is and I don't find it at all funny.

I liked the Office too only because during my working life there was always " one " and David Brent took them off a treat.

DanniRae Mon 04-Mar-19 19:02:15

I don't like Alan Partridge either.........can't see why he is funny.........seems just daft to me!

I believe A P is based on Richard Madeley. The early series were quite amusing but this one didn’t amuse me at all. I think it’s had its day and shouldn’t have been brought back.

I haven’t seen this but don’t like Alan Partridge at all I find him really gringy

Going to see Stan and olly on Wednesday so will reserve judgement on the film till then

I read that Steve Coogan based Alan Partridge on Alan Titchmarsh from the days when he used to present Pebble Mill at One. He chose the surname Partridge because the bird has a puffed out chest! grin

I find him funnier now I know that.

Unsurprisingly, the rather precious Alan Titchmarsh was not amused!

MiniMoon Mon 04-Mar-19 19:55:34

It is the most unfunny programme on TV. I have never found Alan Partridge funny, just cringe making.? Steve Coogan is a really good actor. I wonder why he wastes his time with this drivel.
It may be comedy, but it's not to my taste.

Jane10 Mon 04-Mar-19 19:58:40

That's just it MiniMoon it's a matter of taste!

merlotgran Mon 04-Mar-19 20:04:10

I think a lot of people are missing the point. He's supposed to make you cringe with embarrassment because it's a parody of that kind of presenter.

If you try and look at it from a traditional comedy point of view then you won't find it funny.

Harris27 Mon 04-Mar-19 20:27:40

He was great in Stan and Ollie can't stand him as Alan partridge.

Maybelle Mon 04-Mar-19 20:43:25

Just don't get it, not funny at all

Luckygirl Mon 04-Mar-19 20:49:59

Finger down throat icon required here. grin

DanniRae Tue 05-Mar-19 08:17:56

I don't want to 'cringe with embarrassment' merlotgran. I want to enjoy the programmes I watch and be entertained.

I have to say that he was very good, as himself, in "Philamena" with Judy Dench.

M0nica Tue 05-Mar-19 08:28:43

merlot I get the point. As I said in a previous post. I dislike any 'humorous' programme that is based on laughing AT people.

I think it is a form of bullying, and if you can laugh at people on television because they are socially inept and mainstream channels can run 'prestigious' programmes based at laughing at people like that, how can you justify not bullying and laughing at people like that in real life?

Steve Coogan is a good actor, Alan Partridge is just another acting role he plays.

Kalu Tue 05-Mar-19 08:34:43

Excruciatingly unfunny and uncomfortable to watch?

Oldwoman70 Tue 05-Mar-19 08:46:07

Another one who doesn't find this funny - I agree with MOnica - this encourages laughing at people who are different.

trisher Tue 05-Mar-19 10:19:21

It isn't the people as individuals you are laughing at, it is the whole industry that promotes them to these positions and tries to sell us this image of people which is so at odds with reality. That's the whole point of AP. It's not just a parody of one person it's a parody of the whole concept of the inane and mindless programmes we are fed daily. Nothing to do with people who are "different".

Oldwoman70 Tue 05-Mar-19 10:26:24

A friend of mine was told by her work colleagues she should watch this programme because "it is so like you". She rang me in tears and asked me if everyone was laughing at her - she has Aspergers, so yes it does make it seem acceptable to laugh at people who are different.

trisher Tue 05-Mar-19 10:30:20

That was nothing to do with the programme and everything to do with the people your friend is working with. If she has Aspergers and her colleagues know she has she should report them for discrimination.

trisher Tue 05-Mar-19 10:32:27

I do fails to see how a programme can be so like one person. Did they mean she is like Alan Partridge? What sort of job does she do? The whole point about AP is the industry he works in.

TwiceAsNice Tue 05-Mar-19 10:33:41

Cant stand the man skin is crawling just thinking about him

Fennel Tue 05-Mar-19 11:34:08

I agree with M0nica - he might be satirising other reporters but he does it in a very cruel way.
Makes me think what a nasty person HE is.

M0nica Tue 05-Mar-19 13:56:06

Of course it is satirising the industry, but W1A did that and without setting anyone up as a patsy for everyone to laugh at.

There are a lot of people who enjoy watching people behaving like prats. It makes them feel so superior.

trisher Tue 05-Mar-19 13:58:55

I believe The One Show is very popular.

Jane10 Tue 05-Mar-19 14:01:54

Trisher grin!

M0nica Tue 05-Mar-19 16:47:59

Never watched it.
