Anyone else excited about Series 8 next Monday? I've just binge-watched all of the previous 67 episodes to remind myself of the twists and turns.
If you're going to watch it, what do you think will happen?
If you're not going to watch it, please don't lambaste the programme, this thread is for the lovers of GOT!!!

Spoilers

I was disappointed that the ice dragon didnt turn its back on the whites because doesnt Dani always say how a dragon is not a slave etc

Dani is awful. Thinks she frees slaves then she scares people into compliance using the threat of dragons instead of chains. She give some the choice of freedom, but its selective and its often bend the knee or die. She has potential to be the "mad queen"

I was worn out after watching episode 3 yesterday. I was dreading it but couldn't wait to see it at the same time.
I was so sad that Jorah and Ed died and poor Theon was so heroic at the end, but wasn't Lyana Mormont a brave little trooper killing the giant?

I can't believe the tactics they used though, the Dothraki were wasted in that mad charge into the darkness, couldn't the two dragons have paved the way with a few sweeps of flames beforehand? Also the poor unsullied took the brunt of the onslaught in front of the fire pits, they had no choice but to stand and go down bit by bit.

It looks like everyone else survived from the trailer for next week, though I hope Ghost is still alive, he went off with the Dothraki. I really don't know how it's going to pan out now most of Dani's army is gone, she still has the two dragons but there's only the survivors left now, how on earth is she going to take Cersei on now? sad

Brilliant stuff though, I'm going to really miss it when it ends.

sassenach am very impressed by your memory for names!
Yes, it was a nailbiting episode, one to watch behind a cushion ( or the sofa) ?
I did wonder about the daft mad dash of the Dothraki....I mean why?
Also, shot at night time it was hard to see all the action, but it did blend the real actors and CGI well.
Good old Arya!
I find Bran a bit of a pain though as an all seeing character.

The "warcraft" was dire. After battle of the bastards I would have expected better military planning. Or it all to fail due to "too many chiefs" but it sort of flopped somewhere in the middle in terms of military planning and tactics.

The individual plot lines within the rubbish battle plot were good though: Theon being the man he was meant to become made me well up. Lyana was brilliant and didnt that little actress act her little heart out! Absolute show stealer.

The hound freezing until he say arya was brilliant. Not everyone is brave in the heat of battle so I liked his "whats the point" bit.

It was not my favorite episode ever. But it had its moments. Loved Sansa & Tyrion.

Really fed up of Dani at that point.

sassenach512 Tue 30-Apr-19 21:32:08

Thank you lemongrove there are certainly a lot of names to remember in this series, I've watched it from the beginning many times over so some of them should have stuck smile

Yes, sadly Bran isn't Bran anymore is he? he's coming across as quite emotionless and odd now.

It was a touching moment between Tyrion and Sansa wasn't it as they hid in the crypt, he certainly was the best of her husbands, I'm glad she told him smile

The Hound's achilles heel is his fear of fire though notanan, still, he redeemed himself didn't he? he and Dondarion fulfilled their 'destiny' by saving Arya so that she could do what she did. All of those loose threads are coming together as the series ends.

I agree, the battle tactics were pants, nobody seemed to be directing it, they just all seemed to be thrashing it out in their own groups.

I did think Sam would have found his mojo at last, instead of running off.

The Hound's achilles heel is his fear of fire though notanan

Well I thought that initially and then he started talking about the futility of it all

I'm glad Sam didnt suddenly become a battle ninja because that wouldnt be realistic. In real battles people dont all suddenly transform into heroic warriors.. there is terror and cowardice and what I have always liked about JRRM is that he doesnt make war glamorous and noble. Because it isnt, its dirty.

notanan2 Tue 30-Apr-19 23:03:49

I dont think the Hound had anything to redeem. He didnt see the point of carrying on for himself or for victory but did see a point in helping arya. It made sense.

notanan2 Tue 30-Apr-19 23:05:36

he certainly was the best of her husbands, I'm glad she told him

I think that was a joke not a compliment, because they both knew how dire the "competition" was

Sansa has previously told tyrion that she thought highly of him. For me the magic was more in the warmth in her face for him. She is usually so poker faced.

sassenach512 Wed 01-May-19 00:08:33

notanan the Hound was disillusioned with life and didn't think there was anything to live for, everything that might have been good in his life, turned sour. He froze with the fire all around him and the hopelessness of their situation. He joined the Brotherhood because he was beginning to think Beric Dondarion was right, in that they had been given a purpose by the Lord of Light but neither really knew what that purpose was. As it turned out, it was to save Arya so she could then kill the NK.

I do think Sansa meant it when she said Tyrion was the best, he was always kind to her and never consummated their marriage because he knew how young she was.

That is great that lots of you enjoy this series. I have tried to watch it but it is too dark and violent for me and yes I think it should be called "game of porn." Not my thing at all. We are all different. I must be just a handful of people that don't like it.

lemongrove Mon 20-May-19 22:17:38

Wow....just watched the very last episode, what a great last series this has been. Some surprises!
Last week’s episode ( battle in Kings Landing) was the best episode of the series, just breathtaking, but also enjoyed this last one, ties up loose ends, and they fulfill their destinies.
So sad that it’s all over now, I shall miss it.

sassenach512 Tue 21-May-19 00:07:03

Me too lemongrove, I'm still left wondering what all of that `lord of light` stuff was about though, that wasn't explained but it really has been an exceptional series

Beckett Tue 21-May-19 05:49:10

I'm another who has never watched it. I hope no GNs are amongst those people who are reportedly contacting a helpline which helps them deal with the "loss" of the programme at £60 per hour!!!. (If anyone is in need - I will do it for £10 p.h. grin )

DanniRae Tue 21-May-19 08:41:00

Just saying that I am glad it has finished as I chose not to watch it - and am tired of being with my family who discuss the ins and outs of it endlessly! I suppose this will continue for a few more weeks as everyone expresses their opinion of who did what to whom and then, hopefully, blessed peace!!

sassenach512 Tue 21-May-19 10:45:15

Some of us don't have anyone to discuss it with DanniRae think how you would feel if you loved a show but couldn't talk to someone about it?

srn63 Tue 21-May-19 13:01:31

I watched the last episode last night and although not gripping it did give closure to all the main characters, don't know how good a king Bran Stark will be though. Overall I enjoyed the series, but after watching it for eight years I still can't remember most of the names and at the beginning read the books to help me sort out who was who! Tyrian was always my favourite and the best actor in the series.

sassenach512 Tue 21-May-19 14:00:35

The books are even more jam packed with names srn63 most weren't in the series. I doubt even George RR could keep track of who they all are smile

I can now read the latter part of this thread, having binge watched the last series. I bought the dvd when it came out a few weeks ago but wanted to be in the right frame of mind to watch it properly. I can now watch the commentaries and the 'making off' sections of the dvd. Pity I did see a few spoilers earlier in the year; mainly pictures in newspapers that I couldn't avoid. Feel a bit bereft now that it's over; it's been a huge part of my life since I first watched it. I thought the dialogue in season 8 was back to it's best. My main criticism, having watched part of the 'making of' video, was that, what set GOT's apart from other fantasy series was that it was mainly location based and used less special effects than most. Season 8 was very much special effects; green screen etc etc. And I think I was hoping for the sort of unexpected plot lines that used to awe me; there was rarely, in previous series, an event that didn't leave me with a 'didn't see that coming' moment. Thankfully I'll be able to discuss it endlessly with my daughter. I'm not ready to 'let it go' yetawhile. And, having now read earlier comments on this thread some of it makes more sense to me now, especially 'the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives'; the sort of thing that, in retrospect you think 'ah; it was all so obvious'. And, as was pointed out in the 'making of' it came full circle, and ended as it began. Feel so sorry for Drogon, though sad….perhaps he became Puff the Magic Dragon....
