Started this thread as a diversion from all the political ones.
Only watched the first half hour as I wasn’t that bothered who was partnered with who really. Find the launch show a bit drawn out TBH.
Realised I only knew 5 of the 15 contestants, but that will change as the weeks go on.
Liked Tess’s gown, thought Claudia’s outfit looked similar to the PVC macs we wore in the early 70’s.

Found the set hard to watch. Too much glitter, sparkle and clashing colour....and I'm well known for my love of colour.....Loved Yebba and Mark Ronson though. Looked her up immediately. Excellent!!

Hm999 Sun 08-Sept-19 13:23:58

The photos for this particular were in the paper several weeks ago - who could forget Claud and Tess's gladrags? This is the one that isn't live, and obviously the lad who's pulled out was fully fit in yesterday's show. I watched it with fast forward button (which is how I'll watch the whole season).
Very disappointed that Gorka's not got a partner.

BlueBelle Sun 08-Sept-19 13:31:17

It doesn’t matter calandergirl it was just that I knew I had commented and couldn’t find my comment then found number 2 still no comment and then found number 3 ?
ah well as you all love it so much three can’t be too many threads and I agree with your reasoning if I hear another talk programme on my radio covering ‘IT’ I ll sling it out the window
I just hate fake ness and to me it is all so contrived, the same for the other ‘judges’ programmes Britain got talent, X factor the voice I liked them all when they started but they ve been done to death they are so false and I could just about write the script for any of them, they are tired that’s why they are razzing them up to near hysterics all the time

oldgaijin Sun 08-Sept-19 13:31:35

Am I the only person in the country that CAN'T STAND Strictly? Just a heap of tosh, and who are these supposed "slebs"?

missdeke Sun 08-Sept-19 13:39:33

I've only watched Strictly for a few years as I was out of the country till 2012 so I still enjoy it. Tess is rather irritating with her hunched forward shoulders and hand rubbing all the time; I often wonder if the judges want to pull her up on her posture like they do the celebs.

Whingingmom Sun 08-Sept-19 13:48:49

Not my cup of tea at all now, although I enjoyed the early days. It seems too contrived, pantomime like and long drawn out. It will be Netflix for me on a Saturday night from now on.

TashHag Sun 08-Sept-19 14:10:42

Today 12:45 Lyndawads

I'm a bit taken aback as to why Neil Jones has suddenly been catapulted into the limelight! He's a bit of a strange one! Everything about him seems forced or contrived- maybe it's just me?

Why is everyone being so mean about poor Neil Jones? He seems like a regular guy to me.... I’m glad they’ve given him a partner at last.... in fact, he and the footballer are my tip to win smile

CarlyD7 Sun 08-Sept-19 14:13:41

I suspect that Neil Jones's "promotion" may be, in part, his reward for saying little after "Kissgate" last year involving his wife Katya? It will be interesting to see how he fares as a teacher - he just doesn't come across very warmly and I agreed with TashHag that his expressions seem very forced and contrived. But time will tell !

Theoddbird Sun 08-Sept-19 14:21:01

I am do pleased that Anton has a partner who can dance. I noticed her when they were all dancing together. I wonder if they will find another partner for Oti. I hope so.

fourormore Sun 08-Sept-19 14:44:59

Am I the only one who feels that it is slightly unfair on the other contestants if Oti takes part, partnered with anyone?
I understood the judge was her mother - others say she is her sister - but whatever the relationship, surely it makes it difficult for Mum/sister to be neutral and also difficult for the other judges?
Shame because I adore Oti as a dancer and as a character!

Lumarei Sun 08-Sept-19 15:03:39

I am with you Bluebelle

Sara65 Sun 08-Sept-19 15:10:34

Probably more likely the mother/ sister will be extra tough on Oti, I thought it was her sister, but she looks a lot older.

TheMidget Sun 08-Sept-19 15:14:15

Boring!! Turned it off, too much screaming and yahooing. Or maybe I’ve just turned into that proverbial “grumpy old woman”. ! I will watch the series but like most of us, don’t know the majority of contestants. It only gets good when they get rid of the dead wood and the jokers.

whywhywhy Sun 08-Sept-19 16:03:32

I love the programme. I don't see how it can be fair with Oti's sister as a judge. Interesting viewing yet to come. So pleased Anton has someone decent for a change.

TashHag Sun 08-Sept-19 16:09:27

Today 14:13 CarlyD7

I agreed with TashHag that his expressions seem very forced and contrived.

I didn’t say that, Carly! That was Lyndawads... I think Neil’s great, although I agree that he’s being rewarded for his discretion (and his ex is being reined in)

TashHag Sun 08-Sept-19 16:12:23

.... I’d love it if they got rid of Bruno and brought Arlene Phillips back, although that’ll never happen

Skinnylizzie Sun 08-Sept-19 17:21:36

Agree.... and I had to check with my daughter about one of the contestants ?

ninathenana Sun 08-Sept-19 17:26:53

Theoddbird Oti's new partner is the guy who played Andy Sugden in Emmerdale
Oti's sister has assured the press that she will definitely not favour Oti hmm

Grannyrebel Sun 08-Sept-19 17:50:24

It was so hyped up OTT and I couldn't stand all that gushing. Seemed like everyone was high on drugs they were all so ecstatic! Come on it's only a dancing competition!

Kim19 Sun 08-Sept-19 17:50:46

Shepherd's sheepskin for me every time. Ankle hugging, safe sole, cosy with various shades on offer.

BlueBelle Sun 08-Sept-19 17:56:26

kim19 ?

wrong thread I think

HildaW Sun 08-Sept-19 19:49:07

Oh lord I really do not know how to start this conversation as I have always been very ambivalent to a person's 'leanings'....as Grandma used to say 'so long as they do not frighten the horses...etc'. I really do not give a damn which way people prefer to go...….but to be honest I would love to see a non camp male's perspective for a change. It all gets a bit much when all of the judges are drooling over a male celebrity.

nannyof4 Sun 08-Sept-19 20:49:43

I will be watching not that i know many of them, but also prefer dancing on ice.

shirleyhick Sun 08-Sept-19 20:50:33

Love Strictly at long last something decent to watch on a Saturday night.
