Started this thread as a diversion from all the political ones.
Only watched the first half hour as I wasn’t that bothered who was partnered with who really. Find the launch show a bit drawn out TBH.
Realised I only knew 5 of the 15 contestants, but that will change as the weeks go on.
Liked Tess’s gown, thought Claudia’s outfit looked similar to the PVC macs we wore in the early 70’s.

Won't be watching although I think Mike Bushall (think that's his name off BBC Breakfast) should be entertaining.

I only know 5 of the Celebs, 6 now the actor who played Andy Sugden on Emmerdale is in it.

I can't stand the lights & camera angels, make me feel very uneasy (I have Epilepsy) so it stays off my tv

I think JC's wife is well rid of him, he's really boring and ugly not in the least bit attractive.
Thst said, Oti's sister looked ridiculous in that huge dress, like a lampshade but I suppose it had to balance out her oversized top half.
Yes...the drawn-out pairings were tedious in the extreme, Claudia looked awful as usual - neither use nor ornament and Tess's dress was lovely...if it had all been floor length.
I'm not enamoured with many of the couples, mainly because they're z listers, the exception being Karim Zeroual who I think will do well and seems a nice person.
I really dislike Mike Bushell.

I always think Strictly is just a load of show offs, including the judges.

Magrithea Mon 09-Sept-19 15:05:41

Agree the launch show is a bit tedious - I watched on catchup via iPlayer so whizzed through most of it!! grin

Sara65 Mon 09-Sept-19 15:10:41

I can never understand why strictly can only ever attract Z listers, surely it’s prestigious enough to attract a few B or C listers

Anniebach Mon 09-Sept-19 15:31:03

Just watched 15 minutes, the new judge has been ‘on a journey’.

I recognised three of the celebrities! , one contestant is a
tv personality , what is a tv personality?

Alima Sun 22-Sept-19 07:00:35

Where is everyone? Didn’t anyone else watch the start of the new series? Thought it looks very promising. Even the American lady was very good, as for the man from Emmerdale, well!

kittylester Sun 22-Sept-19 07:08:44

I loved it! Though I was slightly pee'd off with the people who described themselves as 'starring in'. Surely it isn't their place to describe themselves thus.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Sara65 Sun 22-Sept-19 07:12:23

I loved it too Kitty, I was having a text conversation with one of my daughters afterwards, which was tricky because we didn’t know any of their names! But I’m sure they’ll soon become familiar, and I did like Motsi.

dragonfly46 Sun 22-Sept-19 07:18:34

I loved it too but then I love it every year.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Sept-19 07:57:33

Strictly is back, all is right on Saturday night, I just love it, not sure Anneka Rice or James Cracknell will last long!

Goodbyetoallthat Sun 22-Sept-19 08:16:07

I agree Granny Gravy & they were the only two "celebrities" that I recognised.

Sara65 Sun 22-Sept-19 08:16:45

grannygravy

I agree, I also think that footballer will have a short run, Anneka was rubbish, but I liked her attitude, not much chance of Kevin retaining the glitter ball.

aggie Sun 22-Sept-19 08:20:36

I will be watching this year , some excellent dancers , and even the also rans were watcheable smile

EllanVannin Sun 22-Sept-19 08:34:24

Kelvin from Emmerdale will be worth keeping an eye on as will the younger man, Karim ? None of the females impressed as yet.

Sara65 Sun 22-Sept-19 10:01:44

Yes, I think the young cbbc man Karim? was very good, one for the young audience, my grandson cried when Dr Ranj was eliminated last year, so hopefully, he’ll get a bit further.

merlotgran Sun 22-Sept-19 10:06:37

We have a family sweepstake. DH has drawn Anton and whateverhernameis and I've drawn Kelvin!!

Looks like I'm in with a chance of winning the grand sum of £24. grin

He's an odd looking bloke though.

Gonegirl Sun 22-Sept-19 10:09:13

Avoiding it. Found an ancient film to watch last night up until Casuality. And it had sub-titles. How good was that?!

Sara65 Sun 22-Sept-19 10:09:36

Merlotgran

I was trying to describe Kelvin to my husband, he doesn’t watch strictly, and I don’t watch Emmerdale, I said he was a very odd looking man, with a very muscular body, he said, oh yes, I know who you mean!

Gonegirl Sun 22-Sept-19 10:11:37

The judges are ridiculous. Just like on the other "talent" contest type shows. Vomit making.

Sara65 Sun 22-Sept-19 10:14:36

Thought you managed to avoid it Gonegirl, did you sneak a little peek?

merlotgran Sun 22-Sept-19 10:14:39

I bet they've already worked out who is going to win. All these talent shows are fixed.

Still love it though.

EllanVannin Sun 22-Sept-19 10:20:49

Aww Kelvin's a pleasant looking chap who obviously doesn't take the show too seriously, which is what I like to see. As was the other youngster from CBeebies.

paddyann Sun 22-Sept-19 10:32:48

I was just about to say that EV I like him nothing "odd looking " about him .As far as I can see he has the requisite two eyes ,two ears ,one nose and one mouth and a lovely smile .I thought he did remarkably well after 2 weeks training .Anneka was a real let down I thought she's be good...no idea why I thought that though

Ngaio1 Sun 22-Sept-19 10:45:15

I didn't know if I was going to watch this year because MY Pasha is not there!! Also, haven't a clue who most of the contestants are. However, I did watch and probably shall again. Tess was her usual fixed face badly spoken self and Claudia looked glamorous as ever. I was fascinated by the waxwork appearance of one of the contestants who danced surprisingly well. Several seem to have promise though. Loved Shirley's hair.
