Started this thread as a diversion from all the political ones.
Only watched the first half hour as I wasn’t that bothered who was partnered with who really. Find the launch show a bit drawn out TBH.
Realised I only knew 5 of the 15 contestants, but that will change as the weeks go on.
Liked Tess’s gown, thought Claudia’s outfit looked similar to the PVC macs we wore in the early 70’s.

Anneka was truly dreadful this weekend - but I also wonder at the choreography as in the past Kevin Clifton has always seemed to devise the best possible dance to show off his partner’s talents.
Did they want to be eliminated ASAP perhaps?

merlotgran Mon 07-Oct-19 10:05:37

I thought that, Maw Kevin is not normally partnered with a duffer.

Sara65 Mon 07-Oct-19 11:06:59

I agree, it was a bit odd, anneka did a decent enough dance last week, this week, I think I could have made a better job of it!
Still love it though, it’s a bit of a family thing (excluding my husband) and we all really enjoy it.
Michelle is not likeable, but a great dancer, she may struggle a bit with the faster dances, but we shall see!

Darcie Bussell ?

(Dame Darcey Bussell )

Not like you to misspell a name GabriellaG - not that I could stand her drawl and exaggerated manner either

Maw Anneka did say to Tess that she had taken 4 hours to master just one step during the week so I got the feeling that Kevin pretty much gave up with trying to choreograph much for her. I've seen it reported that he's extremely competitive so he hasn't got the patience with the duffers that, say, Anton has, and is never usually partnered with one.

At least David did some actual dance steps in his routine, plus some lifts. I can dance better than Anneka (and that's not saying much!)

Sara65 I agree, Michelle is not likeable and in the end it will come down to that, I think.

As I said a few days ago, I was in the audience last Saturday night, and the audience are encouraged, practically ordered, to clap and cheer as loudly as possible, ditto booing anything nasty that the judges say.

Sara65 Mon 07-Oct-19 18:07:58

Callgirl

That’s very interesting, I’ve got a friend who went to one of the recordings, and she said she wishes she hadn’t, it spoiled it for her.

callgirl1 Mon 07-Oct-19 22:38:29

Sara65, I`m glad I went, it was interesting, but am now quite happy to watch on TV from now on, those chairs were damned uncomfortable!

Who is Michelle Visage? (Never her real name surely?)
I was struck this evening by the difference between her “everyday” face (trout pout notwithstanding) and her face and hair when in costume and how very much it owes to the Strictly make-up department.
Can’t warm to her.

Harris27 Sat 12-Oct-19 20:07:05

Not enjoying this series as much as previous ones don’t know why.

merlotgran Sat 12-Oct-19 20:23:05

I googled her Maw and had to message DGD1 to ask what 'voguing' was. Still none the wiser but apparently it's favoured by drag artists. hmm

Sara65 Sat 12-Oct-19 21:06:35

It was a good show tonight, can’t stand all that “I’m dancing for my Nana” though, from Saffron, that sort of thing always really annoys me.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 12-Oct-19 21:15:00

Well I am a huge strictly devote, I enjoy seeing the contestants improve each week.

Jane43 Sun 13-Oct-19 03:46:43

There were some amazing dances last night. Strictly is one of the few long running shows that doesn’t lose its appeal for me.

Peonyrose Sun 13-Oct-19 05:16:23

Well I did attempt last night to watch what used to be my favourite show. What a travesty. Self important judges, the new one shrieking , loud and embarrassing. All that false. whooping. The contestants and their partners work hard but the show has been ruined" The hosts have lost the plot they are so annoying. Tacky and loud, what a pity.

Sara65 Sun 13-Oct-19 07:49:18

I still love it, I thought some of the dances last night were brilliant, and I like the judges.

What I don’t like is all the personal stuff, as I said before, all that cringingly awful stuff with Saffron’s Nana, and Kelvins little girl loving Mary Poppins.

I just find it unnecessary, and I wish they wouldn’t do it, but not even that will stop me watching.

Sparklefizz Sun 13-Oct-19 09:06:56

I totally agree with all your points Sara65.

The dancing in this series is fantastic, though, so I shall still watch, and tend to go to the loo/put the kettle on/stroke the cat during the boring personal stuff.

Sparklefizz Sun 13-Oct-19 09:10:11

MawB I can't warm to Michelle Visage either. As I had never heard of her and as I read she was on a drag show, I thought she actually was a drag artist herself initially.

It's about time they stopped doing the results show on a Sunday when it's actually filmed on the Saturday, as I note that for the 2nd time the couple eliminated has been named as a spoiler online already today. I have deliberately avoided reading it.

Sara65 Sun 13-Oct-19 09:18:42

Sparklefizz

I can’t take to Michelle either, but up until last night, I had enjoyed her dancing, last night I thought she looked awful, and didn’t dance so well.

Most of them were really good last night, but I couldn’t see the improvement in the footballer, that the judges clearly could.

Sparklefizz Sun 13-Oct-19 09:38:42

Sara65 I thought Michelle's dancing was worse last night. I read that some of them had had 'flu and I didn't think she looked very well. Last week I was surprised that her dancing was pretty good.

I thought that David, the footballer's, dancing had improved - only slightly - but I always think it is so much easier for the actors who are used to being theatrical (Emma Barton and Kelvin, for instance) than for sportsmen and women who may be very competitive but perhaps self-conscious.

I had never heard of Chris the comedian but he seems very likeable and good fun, and he has definitely improved.

Kelvin may have peaked too early but his dances have been amazing.

Sara65 Sun 13-Oct-19 09:52:35

Sparklefizz

I agree that it must be much easier for the actors, but at least we haven’t got any boy band/girl band member this year, who clearly have an advantage.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 13-Oct-19 09:53:29

Can't stand it.

Sara65 Sun 13-Oct-19 09:53:58

I have never heard of Chris the comedian either, but I quite like him.

Jane10 Sun 13-Oct-19 09:55:50

Not only the dance off couples have been leaked. I know who's out! ?
Twitter leaks!

Sparklefizz Sun 13-Oct-19 10:03:56

Ooh Jane10, don't tell us!
