Seeing as we're all staying in a little lot more, we'd imagine the telly is getting a fair amount of attention. If you want to chat about whatever you're watching while it's on (or the next day) please do check our Telly forum topic and join in if there's already a conversation running. If not, why not start one? There's almost certainly someone else on here who's watching alongside you and would love the opportunity to dissect the plot/suggest whodunnit/debate actor's suitability to role/just want to say they love or hate it. grin

We are trying out Netflix and I particularly wanted to see Afterlife as it has had such good reviews.

I have watched the first series and am two episodes into the second series. I don't like the continual use of the word cunt because I don't see why female anatomy should be used as an insult. There are also some very graphic sexual references, which I understand to be satirical (especially with the psychotherapist), but which I nevertheless find too explicit.

Apart from that, I like it very much and think it is, at heart, a very humane and thoughtful comedy drama.

I liked the old Van der Valk.

I think this new incarnation is awful. Marc Warren is, in my opinion, totally miscast - a thoroughly uninteresting and unlikeable character.

I found it boring and don't think I'll bother to watch it again.

Marmight Mon 27-Apr-20 08:51:42

Like Eloethan I thought Van der Valk was dire!

Last night watched the final part of "Race Across the World", really enjoyed this programme, mainly because it was about my favourite part of the world, central and south America. Very pleased with the outcome, thought the Uncle and Nephew were worthy winners.

Then we watched an episode of "The Sopranos", my son sent us the box set thought it would be good for us to watch during the lockdown. It's very good, can't remember why I didn't get into it when it was on, don't like some of the violence though, have to turn away during those bits.

We've recorded Van der Valk, but based on some of the comments here, not sure whether it will be worth wasting any time on, there are better things to see, might give it a cursory half an hour.

A waste of two hours- I so agree with Eloethan. Even the music was mangled.

Alima Mon 27-Apr-20 12:38:08

Really enjoyed the final of Race Across the World even though my preferred couple to win had to leave. The two men who won were incredibly generous in donating half their win to charity.
There is another programme next week, a sort of catch-up on how all the teams fared.

Primates on bbc1 last night was very entertaining and I’ll give Normal People a go this evening- 2 episodes so a good start to see if it’s worth persevering.

Killing Eve this evening

I hate to say I'm not quite as captivated with it

The first two seasons were excellent

Eloethan, I watched the first episode of Series 2 of AfterLife yesterday and I agree with you about the continual use of the ‘c’ word, especially from the old lady played by Annette Crosby. I’m no prude but I didn’t like it at all, it was too much. I only remember one use of the word in the last series.

I watched a documentary about Ken Dodd. Quite an eye opener. What a really lovely man he was!

Oopsminty Tue 28-Apr-20 00:16:13

Killing Eve is getting better

Alishka Wed 29-Apr-20 11:19:57

Marmight , years ago a friend had 2 tickets to see Ken Dodd live, her friend dropped out and she invited me to go with her.I only knew him as the man with the big teeth and the, what was it? Diddy Stick, something like that? I thought he was dire BUT I went along, for my friend. He was BRILLIANT! and come 10.00pm when the show should have ended, he said "Right! If anyone's got a bus or train to catch, you'd better leave now, but for anyone else, if you want me to carry on, I will". So we did and laughed our way through to 11.pm when he had to stop. Will never forget that evening.grin

I am currently hooked on The Vikings showing on Amazon Prime. The story line is fantastic and the acting by the main characters superb. It has really drawn me in and i am binge watching as nothing much else to do. Waiting for the return of the The Last Kingdom to be shown on Netflix which is along the same lines.

Redhead56 Thu 30-Apr-20 10:44:08

Watched Unorthodox on Netflix it was brilliant. Started watched Code 404 on Sky one last night it looks promising. Everything else is cookery apart from The great British menu. Stopped watching that a few years ago as they don't produce food but art it does not impress me. Jamie Rick et al know how to cook and produce recipe books that I love flickling through. I watched The repair shop and loved it but got sick of listening to the same old tale. Someone had an object for years stored away and just decided to have it renovated for free!

Daisymae Thu 30-Apr-20 13:39:44

Yes, I agree Unorthodox is an excellent show. It is also worth watching 'The Making of Unorthodox', only 20 mins or so. It goes a long was to explain how it felt authentic.

grannylyn65 Thu 30-Apr-20 14:01:58

Thanks Paddy

Kalu Thu 30-Apr-20 14:54:43
