Belgravia ... Lost the plot?

The plot of this drama as such great potential. The costumes and locations were perfect, most importantly there was a cast of wonderful actors.

It was easy watching because no pain or emotional journey was involved. It could and maybe should have been a classic 26 part drama like the great Forsythe Saga... or even the contemporary Downton Abbey.

Did the wonderful Julian Fellows really give his name to this?

apologies, should be 'has' not 'as'

In tonight’s episode a servant actually said “no change there then sir”. As if that phrase would have been used in those days. I do not honestly know why I watched this drivel.

Very disappointing end I too am wondering why I stuck with it.

SueDonim Sun 19-Apr-20 22:41:02

I didn’t know this was the last episode. I was a bit shock at all the pieces falling place so quickly. confused If there’s another series I won’t be counting the days like I did with Downton.

Anyone else notice how clean the water in the Thames was? grin

This is too much of my life I will never get back.

Gingster Sun 19-Apr-20 22:43:38

Lost interest after first 2 episodes.

So much promise but a real disappointment.

It was all a bit silly tonight.

Fiachna50 Mon 20-Apr-20 03:24:13

I loved it. This was a welcome diversion.

Curlywhirly Mon 20-Apr-20 07:54:24

Well I enjoyed it!

Sparklefizz Mon 20-Apr-20 09:18:15

I thought it was silly, but I watched it as a diversion. It could have been so good ..... but it wasn't.

Frankly anyone who had fallen into the highly polluted Thames in those days would likely die of some nasty infection afterwards.

Sparklefizz Mon 20-Apr-20 09:20:04

Anyone notice that the "baddie", John Bellasis, had extremely white teeth? In my opinion actors who have had their teeth whitened are ruling themselves out for historical dramas.

Charleygirl5 Mon 20-Apr-20 09:20:34

There was nothing else for me to watch and I also doubt if I would bother watchinganother series.

I watched the first two episodes and then went off to The Nest. I had read the book and wondered how it could be stretched out into so many episodes. It's just a simple story that would have made a couple of hours maybe. I think it was an attempt to make something huge to replace Downton and it really didn't have sufficient story..

SirChenjin Mon 20-Apr-20 09:55:25

I missed it last night but had been enjoying it - sounds like I didn’t miss much!

High quality hokkum which took my mind of the depressing reality of life. Can’t cope with assassins and horror at present. And some real quality actors who lifted the rather banal script. Harriet Walter conveys so much with the mere lift of an eyebrow.

Teetime Mon 20-Apr-20 10:08:19

Yes I agree a banal script from a pretty dull book but Harriet Walter and Tara Fitzgerald are always worth watching.

henetha Mon 20-Apr-20 10:13:38

I agree the actors made it worth watching. I sort of enjoyed the whole thing but thought it terribly predictable. But welcome relief from the real world at present.

Nortsat Mon 20-Apr-20 10:16:11

I must add my voice to the ‘lost interest after 1 or 2 episodes’ camp.
I really tried and very much admire Harriet Walter but couldn’t engage with this series ...

Charleygirl5 Mon 20-Apr-20 10:17:07

I agree henetha one did not have to give much thought to what was going on.

DanniRae Mon 20-Apr-20 11:04:58

I must be really dim because I had trouble following the story. Nearly drove Mr R mad as I kept saying "Which one is that?" etc. confused

LullyDully Mon 20-Apr-20 11:12:15

The last episode was very Mills and Boon ( not sure of the spelling, sorry). All a bit modern in its view point. You had sex with someone apart from my son and you are now pregnant, don't worry dear.......and so on.

CassieJ Mon 20-Apr-20 11:41:58

I continued watching hoping it would get better. It didn't. Won't watch another series if they bring one out.
I loved Downton Abbey. This one didn't live up to that at all.

Millie22 Mon 20-Apr-20 11:58:20

Well I quite liked it but it was a bit rushed at the end. I think the water scene would have been filmed in a tank like Mr Darcy's was.
