Noticed there is a new version of Van der Valk starting tonight on ITV. Wonder if they will use the same theme tune?

Gfplux Sun 24-May-20 14:04:52

It was OK. About 6/10.

NanKate Thu 14-May-20 07:10:56

I liked Scarborough too.

Rosalyn69 Thu 14-May-20 06:44:35

I enjoyed it. smile

Calendargirl Thu 14-May-20 06:34:45

I still smile when I think of the estate agent scene in Scarborough, Jane10.

Jane10 Wed 13-May-20 22:38:14

Scarborough was great. Such good characters.

sodapop Wed 13-May-20 21:55:20

No of course not NanKate we are only the customers, I do often wonder who decides which programmes are to be made and shown.

NanKate Wed 13-May-20 19:26:53

I wonder CalendarGirl if the powers that be ever ask the likes of us what programmes we want.

Calendargirl Wed 13-May-20 07:43:21

Oh NanKate it beggars belief how some rubbishy programmes get re-commissioned, and other good ones are abandoned.

IMO, good ones include Scarborough and Home Fires.

Bad ones include Hold The Sunset.

NanKate Tue 12-May-20 22:09:28

Yes it has Calendar I read about it in the paper today. Very disappointed with it. ?

Calendargirl Tue 12-May-20 07:44:08

I await news that a second series has been commissioned.

Calendargirl Tue 12-May-20 07:43:10

Wonder how the actors in a programme such as this feel when they read the critics reviews ? Do they think when they are rehearsing what a load of rubbish it is? Or do they feel it will be a huge success?

Let’s hope they don’t look at Gransnet!

We recorded the programme and watched it this afternoon only to find it had not recorded the last half hour. Never mind I wasn't that struck with the series.

Charleygirl5 Mon 11-May-20 22:03:19

Thank goodness that was the last episode.

Calendargirl Mon 11-May-20 21:58:10

Thanks gM

grandMattie Mon 11-May-20 19:13:47

No.

Calendargirl Mon 11-May-20 19:12:04

Didn’t bother watching this week’s episode. Was it any better than the previous two?

Sillymoo Mon 11-May-20 18:04:49

I think they should have called it something else as the characters and period totally different from the original. Bit like the Durrels in that it's not true to the original. Dread to think what the new All Creatures Great and Small will be like!

oscaro11 Thu 07-May-20 15:46:36

My DH likes it, says it’s watchable, me not so much. Think a different lead actor may have made the difference, this one seems to have little personality and just the same ‘look’ in most scenes. I hoped it would be better to fill the hole on Sunday nights after the end of Belgravia. Bring back Wallander, Morse,Lewis please! Also Poirot and a better lead actor in Midsomer Murders.

trisher Thu 07-May-20 15:38:49

I like it. Loads of holes in the stories of course but it is entertaining and I think Marc Warren is OK.

Floradora9 Thu 07-May-20 15:30:47

I had recorded some Miss Marple's programme with the lovely Joan Hickson ages ago . We are loving seeing them again .

Rosalyn69 Thu 07-May-20 15:15:26

I watched the first episode last night and really enjoyed it but then I like Marc Warren. Watching episode 2 tonight.

Calendargirl Wed 06-May-20 10:34:08

And of course, we always had Miss Marple.

Not a real detective obviously, but she ran rings round all of them!

Good old Joan Hickson!

Calendargirl Wed 06-May-20 10:31:46

Goodness, is he 53? Talk about policemen looking younger!

I agree about the female police bosses. Lewis, nearly all of the Scandi dramas, can’t think of any more off hand.

In real life, we have Cressida Dick leading the Met, and others round the country, so I suppose it mirrors how things have changed, probably for the better.

LullyDully Wed 06-May-20 08:10:05

Not too young calendargirl, he is 53 according to Wikipedia. Quite unlikable.

Witzend Wed 06-May-20 07:46:52

Not mad about it but will probably watch the rest. Some of the dialogue was very difficult to hear. Although he’s a good actor I thought MW was not quite right for the part somehow.
I order why they didn’t use the brilliant original theme tune? I remember a recent precedent for doing this - the remake of Mapp and Lucia. IIRC they used the original opening graphics, too.

Another thing, does anyone else find that ‘female-boss-of central-character-male-detective’ has turned into a something of a cliche? Especially when she tries to put a spoke in his investigations?
