Bloody football!

Yes, I know some like it, but looking at the tv schedule for the forthcoming Saturday evening, 7.15 to 9.45 on BBC 1 is given over to it, then 10.35 to 11.50! Give me strength!

I suppose one saving grace is that it's not international games, with people (and I use the term lightly) chanting their support for a non existent country called "Engerland".

Worse news -72 matches to be played in 40 days!

I would possibly have had a bit of a grumble too if I hadn’t discovered the wonderful world of the Fantasy Premier League this season. I’m so glad it’s back.

I don’t actually have to watch it though, heaven forbid! I just check my phone every 10 minutes or so to see how “my” talented lads are getting on. Not that I’m competitive or anything... grin

Oh dear! Already? DH is addicted to any football games he can get from anywhere in the world and in a month he will add the US games. I will see him around Christmas again.

In this house, we have BT Sport plus a ‘piggyback’ onto Sky Sports so there’s even more matches to watch ( or not). Life has certainly changed

I am missing the tennis. We should be eagerly awaiting Wimbledon.

DH has his own private television set in the dining room???.

We occasionally see each other in passing through the kitchen.

Calendargirl Thu 18-Jun-20 06:37:41

It was headline news yesterday.

Grandad1943 Thu 18-Jun-20 07:12:29

Football fans pay the BBC licence fee in the same way as everyone else. Those fans get very little for that payment, so if this crisis brings a few matches to the BBC channels, so be it.

To condemn that is nothing short on being Totally Selfish.

Rosalyn69 Thu 18-Jun-20 07:23:39

Great news.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Jun-20 07:35:22

grandad ????

Marydoll Thu 18-Jun-20 07:42:46

Oh dear grandad, to.have non stop football, racing, snooker and golf on TV all day, is also totally selfish. wink.
I pay for the license too! ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Jun-20 07:48:43

I think grandad is practicing his arguments?

NfkDumpling Thu 18-Jun-20 08:05:05

Doesn’t Freeview have a sports channel?

I just thank the Lord that DH doesn’t slavishly follow the god Football.

I love Snooker, when I am around to watch it. Last week to see it back on ITV4 was great, and no croud in arena seem to item heighten the atmosphere.

Now, we need much, much more of that on BBC1 and BBC2 throughout many, many evenings.

Nothing like an evening watching those greats on the green baise. ???

olliebeak Thu 18-Jun-20 08:32:37

Time for us to dig out all those DVDs that we've been promising ourselves that we'll get around to watching wink.

Emelle Thu 18-Jun-20 08:38:51

Definitely too much football on TV and I love football I will be watching the games that my team are playing in but it won't be the same as going to matches. I watch them home and away and a group of us (all ladies) make a day of it!

LesleyFi Thu 18-Jun-20 08:39:50

Same in my house!!!!!!

sandwichgeneration Thu 18-Jun-20 08:45:13

For some of us, it's good news. I like football (and cricket) and have been missing it. We're all different.

Gma29 Thu 18-Jun-20 08:47:02

It was about the only positive thing to come out of lockdown. No football. Just bliss, I hate it with a passion. Unfortunately the OH doesn’t....

grannyrebel7 Thu 18-Jun-20 08:48:45

Don't get me started on the bloody rugby Welshwife I hate that even more!

Grandad1943 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:03:06

Snooker starts again on Saturday, ITV4. It looks as though we will be working in the office Saturday morning, but I shall be making sure I am out of there by midday come hell or high water.

Anybody with any problems will be getting short shift from me.

The only day throughout the lockdown that I felt really low was when they announced the World Snooker Championship was to be cancelled in Sheffield.

Oh, and the announcement of the cancellation of the André Rieu Maastricht Concerts that we had tickets for was also a pretty bad day. ?

Still, it's all being made up for with the Snooker being back again now. ?

squirrel5 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:08:22

Well I am glad football's back on the tv,as DH will be occupied watching it,and I will have free time !!!!! Without the constant "what shall WE do now," hooray !

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:27:51

My two youngest (21&17) who live with me dislike footy, thank God, so i won't have to put up with it! (They've each a tv in their room anyway) but i don't even have to pretend to like it, or discuss it! Its great!grin My ex was footy mad, had a season ticket for years,& my ex Father in Law was an actual FA referee, (retired now due to ill heath) so they still constantly try get my youngest interested in it when we visit, but he's just not!He cant see the point of it.(they dont mind a kickabout with their older brothers/nephews& nieces but otherwise, no! Im such a lucky woman!grinCant say im happy when tv take soaps off for it thoughangry

Grandad1943 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:39:51

Well I hope very many enjoy Snooker as it looks as if the World Championships are now to be held in Sheffield at the end of August.

Seventeen days of continuous action on BBC one and two.....just wonderful.

Will be booking some time off for that if it's definitely confirmed. ???

Anyway off to the office now though.?

Nannan2 Thu 18-Jun-20 09:41:27

Thing is, its the constant bombardment of it all thats gets me- theres racing, then tennis, then footy starts, and somewhere in between theres golf starts up, and snooker& darts is on, why cant they space it all out a bit? It just seems to be a constant stream of it! (please dont post to tell which order they are all in, cause i dont actually care!)grin I just know theres always something on, and they ALWAYS disrupt the soaps for it! Unfair! Why should they take precedence over other programmes, as though they're not as important?! They already do have dedicated sports channels, but why do we have to have them all on 'normal' channels as well!angry
