Weather forecasts

Specki4eyes we love the weather here in the UK. We can get the 4 seasons all in one day. Although we are tiny the weather in one part of the UK can be very different from somewhere else.
And 'Road Crash' what can you mean!

I like our more detailed weather forecasts.

But I only see the forecasts about twice as I'm not an all-day news watcher. DH did say they never mention our area where we have a micro-climate.

"It has been a warm and sunny day with temperatures reaching the low 20s and a light breeze coming from the west. Now at 5pm the clouds are building up and a few rumbles of thunder can be heard in the distance, so it's time to fetch the washing off the line. Tomorrow is anybody's guess".

I nearly started a thread yesterday on the awful weather predictions, after getting soaked on our bike ride. If the emergency services did their jobs as badly as the BBC weather ,we’d all be dead!!

Weather forecasting is not and cannot be an exact science for goodness sake they do the best they can and if you catch a shower then that’s unlucky but hardly anyones fault.

I understand that...but to get it wrong for three or four days in a row. We still haven’t had any storms.

I'm afraid you're missing my point my dears ! Which is that one can check the weather hour by hour on your phone, so why is it necessary to interrupt news reporting and commentary SO frequently with the weather details and forecasts?
As for reliance on news reporting, Brexit has been a very worrying issue for us expats. It was then usurped briefly by the floods in UK and then massively by Covid19, all of which impacted our loved ones. Which is why we depend on up to date UK news reporting here.

Could it be that not everyone has a smart phone?

I checked the weather yesterday on three different sites (yes I know I should get out more!) and got three different forecasts! In the past I have been on the phone to a friend who lives a couple of miles away and I am in sunshine whilst she has heavy rain.

I wouldn't mind if they were more accurate

I only look at my phone to check messages.
And I only listen to the weather forecast once or twice a day,
But perhaps that's because I only watch the news once or twice a day, even if I'm overseas for a time, perhaps even less then.

I do have a phone but I rarely take it with me and it's never charged when I need it, so I'm glad to watch the forecast when I plan to go out or hang out washing. I find the TV weather is often more accurate than the online forecasts, which seem to disagree with each other!

Normally only see it on 10 pm news where what Does irritate me is time taken telling us about the weather we've just had.

I don't normally bother about weather forecasts - I just open my curtains in the morning and see what it's like then.

I don`t have a smart phone

I live alone, and have the tv running, sometimes for company, I do not necessarily watch or listen to it.. when I have it seems to me that the weather is every half hour on the BBC News channels.

but then, if you find it boring, don`t watch it... ??

My problem with the weather forecasts is how often they are wrong! I looked up Sunday's weather in our area on Saturday and it said " light cloud and a moderate breeze" So we planned a BBQ. Of course it poured. My husband always says the best way to know the weather is to look out the window.

To be fair, the only reason the BBC put their forecasts on so frequently, is the shortage of news in the UK - that's particularly obvious in the case of the Breakfast slot.

It is such a formulaic and tedious approach.

Given that the weather is the main and key topic of conversation throughout Britain and, of course most of all in, England, then refreshing of the conversation to allow for discussion of how inaccurate the BBC have been in their latest broadcast, and given that moving 10 miles can make a significant change in the precipitation, this is our main entertainment in an otherwise extremely dull country.

(You See food is just fuel, ale is not as tasty as wine, coffee is instant, bread is white pap - so all the topics of French excitement are closed to us Brits) ;)

I find weather forecasts interesting (must get out more...).

I don't watch daytime TV so only see one or two reports in the evening - which I enjoy (sad, eh?!).

If I am planning on a weather related event, I check on my 'phone but as has been said, they vary so widely and one wonders quite how this can be. Are their computer models quite so different?

The various micro climates here do make a difference but surely other countries have those too?

I am currently 'enjoying' watching radar pictures of storms and rain. As I wrote... must get out more....

If I need to know about the weather, i tend to look out the window, but its often very changeable.

I think “outdoor” socialising since lockdown has made me much more aware of the weather forecast. Now if I want to invite friends round, I check the weather forecast and plan a couple of different options rather than have to cancel altogether.
That said, my book group were due to meet in my garden on two occasions this summer, both rained and thundered off and replaced by a Zoom meeting

I only watch the BBC weather forecast so I can comment on Tomas Schaffenacker's hair.
