Is Naga Munchetty a TV turn off?

I am finding Naga Munchetty increasingly rude. She asks a guest a question then doesn't always have the manners to allow them to reply. She butts in or shouts over them. Her comments and tone of voice are often patronising. Her latest performance was to poke fun at Robert Jenrick's Union Jack flag and the photograph of our Queen. She even went the extra mile by liking tweets about it. Her lukewarm 'apology' is clearly not made from her own conscience but from a ticking off she has received from her bosses.

The fact that people think someone should be reprimanded for liking a tweet is terrifying to be honest.

It’s a shame she isn’t more professional and keep her unpleasant comments to herself - not live, not on social media, but private!

I don't watch much daytime tv but I have always found her fine

Did Robert Jenrick actually cry though? He always looks like he is about to burst into tears.

She’s an extremely arrogant woman.

Sarnia
It’s what the bbc does. Mock our flag, our queen, in fact anything that doesn’t fit their left wing mindset.

It certainly is.

I really like her. Having said that, I’ve only watched her a dozen times. On those occasions she seemed pleasant, supportive of her guests and very upbeat.
Unaware of what she’s accused of - maybe having a bad day?

She’s incredibly rude and arrogant. She was unbearable to Matt Tebbutt on Saturday Kitchen.

grandmajet Sat 20-Mar-21 12:30:04

I don’t mind her on tv as I can switch her off when she gets too arrogant and sneery.
I’m not sure I’d like her in real life though.

People should be able to mock anything. The queen anything, I dont want to live in a country that doesnt have that freedom. It's actually part of what I love about this country.

Alegrias1 Sat 20-Mar-21 12:31:16

The fact that there were 2 people making the jokes but the only one we're hearing about is the woman with an Asian background tells you something.

The fact that Government Ministers have obviously had a directive to have the Union Flag in their living rooms while they are making Zoom calls is quite bizarre.

The fact that the Telegraph is positioning this as being about "despising their country" tells me a lot about the attitudes shown on this forum sometimes.

I now turn over or off if she appears and, before the R word gets thrown at me, it’s her character and rudeness I dislike. Can’t stand her patronising tone and the way she talks over people instead of interviewing them in an unbiased professional manner.

It’s sad that all other nations honour their flags and display them in all civic offices and in far more places than ever done here. They also have pictures of their head of state hanging up for all to see. Yet in this country it’s become fair game to trash both our flag and the Queen.

We do watch BBC Breakfast and both of us dislike Naga because of her air of superiority, she interrupts guests too much, talks down to them and is sarcastic. When she was paired with Charlie he used to deal with her rudeness quite well by ignoring her but lately they have become co-conspirators and seem to egg each other on, they were extremely rude to the presenter when they were on the cookery programme that follows the Saturday programme. Louise is just the opposite, charming, knowledgable and a very warm person. Nina is very good too and so is the lady who usually does the Sunday programme.

TwiceAsNice Sat 20-Mar-21 12:34:37

She’s not my favourite and I don’t think people should mock things on the whole. However she has pointed out in the past if she calls out racist comments she’s labelled “difficult” and “ having no sense of humour” and I certainly don’t think that’s acceptable.

chelseababy Sat 20-Mar-21 12:36:39

Can't stand her on Radio 5 either, I actually prefer Adrian Chiles!

Pantglas2 Sat 20-Mar-21 12:40:36

I prefer Louise Minchin presenting and don’t find it at all odd that a backdrop of Union Jack and/or picture of the Queen hangs in government offices. Why wouldn’t they be there?

Ilovecheese Sat 20-Mar-21 12:41:14

It was the male presenter who made the joke, and the huge flags do look silly. No one said anything about the photo of the Queen.

Its not about being in Government Offices. It's in their living rooms. Or under stairs cupboards, or wherever they are making their calls from.

All these politicians with a flag in the corner remind me of those who wear a Remembrance Day poppy way ahead of time.

What's it called - virtue signalling?

Pillocks.

eazybee Sat 20-Mar-21 13:04:29

I am surprised any professional person makes any comments on twitter or the rest of social media, ever, as all comments seem to be saved and brought out years later to damage that person, (ref: the proposed Labour candidate for a forthcoming by-election.)

Pantglas2 Sat 20-Mar-21 13:10:44

Apologies Alegrias- I’d assumed the interview had taken place in his office.

I wouldn’t be so rude as to mock what anyone had in their sitting room.

suziewoozie Sat 20-Mar-21 13:12:41

I’ll just put the tweets of a white man here. And clearly some people have never heard R4 Today and interrupting, shouty men.

JaneJudge Sat 20-Mar-21 13:13:45

Doesn't everyone have a union jack on a flagpole in their cloakroom or lounge? some of you are being far too cynical

Pantglas2 Sat 20-Mar-21 13:20:54

I hope all who mock the displays of flags in people’s homes don’t visit Spain, you’ll all be pearl clutching and having attacks of the vapours!

I can’t think of any property in the Andalusian town where mi Casa is situated that doesn’t have the ??Spanish flag up, including mine (along with ??????? of course!)
