People should be able to mock anything. The queen anything, I dont want to live in a country that doesnt have that freedom. It's actually part of what I love about this country.

The BBC (Britain Broadcasting Company) is supposed to be impartial and so are its presenters.

You as an individual can mock all you like within reason but more is expected from the BBC and public figures.

I hope all who mock the displays of flags in people’s homes don’t visit Spain, you’ll all be pearl clutching and having attacks of the vapours!

I can’t think of any property in the Andalusian town where mi Casa is situated that doesn’t have the ??Spanish flag up, including mine (along with ??????? of course!)

I visit Spain a lot. Or used to I know they have the flag everywhere. But not on 9 foot flagpoles in their living rooms, co-incidentally next to a picture of their King.

It was the male presenter who made the joke, and the huge flags do look silly. No one said anything about the photo of the Queen.

She actually mockingly said "and he has a picture of the Queen".

The only people bringing her ethnicity into the argument are those defending her actions. The complaints against her, and her fellow presenter, have been about the comments made

The BBC presents endless coverage in favour of the queen. It is fine to mock the queen whether you are public figure are not. Trying to control others language and the tweets they like is about as unpatriotic as it gets.

I dont think the French or Americans mind showing allegiance to their respective flags.
The fact that it can be used as a source of derision in this country is the nub I think.

TV presenters and the like should be more professional and keep their views to themselves when doing their job.
Outside of that they can hold whatever views they wish, just as the rest of us do.

The Huw Edwards flag was to support Wales in the rugby today, nothing to do with him being a white, or interrupting, shouty man (he’s always courteous). The English including the BBC hierarchy are very miffed about Wales beating them, how dare they!
On the subject of news people though, my absolute favourite is George Alagiah, he’s so unbiased in the way he presents, and I love the way he smiles at you/the camera after the broadcast and says and Now for the news where YOU are - is that just me?

It was sometime ago and I don't remember who she was interviewing but she spoke over him saying "I don't mean to interrupt" so he responded with "well don't then"

I have come to the view that no public figure, should be sacked or reprimanded for a comment they make (obviously incitment to violence and criminal offences not included), the path this leads you down has been proved time and time again to be dangerous. This includes Naga and Piers Morgan, it applies to everyone whatever their political persuasion. Noone should be given the power to decide what words are acceptable.

Charlie made the deadpan comment. I thought it was hilarious. I like Naga. Her and Charlie are good together.
I do find the flag in the corner quite ridiculous. It’s not mocking the flag it’s mocking the people who have it on display so ostentatiously.

I love Naga in spite of her playing golf! She is clever and funny and wears wonderful clothes - and she has two siamese cats.
I watched Saturday Kitchen (which has got very boring) precisely because she and Charlie were on. I thought it would be fun, and it was. Matt gave as good as he got, what's not to like?
As for this idea that Tory MPs must always appear with at least one large flag!!! What sort of banana republic are we becoming? The last person to have a picture of the Queen on his wall was Alf Garnett. That bodes well for the future. How long before our children are being taught to pledge allegiance to the flag?

I dislike the display of flags, and the American way of pledging allegiance to the flag (I’m not sure exactly what they do) in schools makes me really queasy. Nationalism is such a potentially dangerous sentiment.

I didn’t say he was shouty. And I think his Welsh flag was making a point re Naga- his second tweet with the BBC flag was very witty. He’s got form (good on him) for poking fun at BBC management ( or as it’s better known now, the field office of Conservative HQ).

Hummm that’s a jump I feel from mocking an individual who through no choice of their own has a disadvantage to mocking a group of (supposedly) grown up men and women who have chosen to put a flag ( picture of the Queen whatever) in the corner of their living room for political reasons. Being mocked for your disability ( as I have been ) can be very damaging and bears no comparison in terms of freedom of speech when mocking someone’s political views or actions which are freely chosen.

There’s not much impartiality going on in the Scottish Covid Briefings, which are being used to talk about the Sturgeon/Salmond business. Just because a reporter asks a question about it doesn’t mean the person leading the briefing has to answer. They should be replying ‘I’m here to talk about Covid and nothing else. Next question, please.
