Is Naga Munchetty a TV turn off?

I am finding Naga Munchetty increasingly rude. She asks a guest a question then doesn't always have the manners to allow them to reply. She butts in or shouts over them. Her comments and tone of voice are often patronising. Her latest performance was to poke fun at Robert Jenrick's Union Jack flag and the photograph of our Queen. She even went the extra mile by liking tweets about it. Her lukewarm 'apology' is clearly not made from her own conscience but from a ticking off she has received from her bosses.

Ohhps wrong thread, apologies
I thing Naga Munchetty is trying to come across as authoritative, but alas comes across as Authoritarian.

All these politicians with a flag in the corner remind me of those who wear a Remembrance Day poppy way ahead of time.

What's it called - virtue signalling?

Pillocks.

I’ll have to remember to check in with you to find out when you will allow me to wear the poppy that I paid for!

Why would you do that? hmm

I was referring to politicians who are obviously following the latest diktat from HQ on displaying the flag - I have absolutely NO interest in when you wear your poppy.

People should be able to mock anything. The queen anything, I dont want to live in a country that doesnt have that freedom. It's actually part of what I love about this country.

What freedom. You can’t mock.....

Transgender,
Race,
Sexual orientation,
Religion,
Disability.

These are all classed as hate crimes under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 so where is the freedom you talk about.

Naga Munchetty is an extremely arrogant, rude opinionated woman with no manners at all.

Who cares what people have in the sitting rooms/attics, flags, pictures of their dogs, cats, babies and even pictures of the Queen. It’s only the likes of Naga Munchetty who mocks people.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 20-Mar-21 15:05:52

They aren’t there to tell us what they think, it’s a News programme, they are supposed to be impartial interviewers, I don’t watch it to hear their points of view, just to watch them interview others.

Doesn't everyone have a union jack on a flagpole in their cloakroom or lounge? some of you are being far too cynical

No, we've got the Welsh Flag flying on the flagpole in the front garden
Our neighbours have a Cornish flag

I don't watch Breakfast TV but I thought the Panorama programme Naga Munchetty presented recently was good.

Nicegranny Sat 20-Mar-21 15:16:16

I find her rude and too big for her boots !

When she was on Saturday Kitchen she was attempting to make it all about herself.
It was embarrassing to watch because she appeared to be on a mission to turn it into the Naga show.

Exactly Oopsadaisy they have a role as presenters not arbiters of taste.

I prefer 'Milkshake'.Not the ones you drink if their's any confusion concerning my reply.grin

To be fair, it was Charlie Stayt who made the joke about the flag and Naga Munchetty just laughed but she seems to have got the telling off. I see it as the Tory party misappropriating the flag. Reminded me of the BNP, but frankly there are much more important things to be getting up in arms about these days

timetogo2016 Sat 20-Mar-21 15:31:31

I can`t stand the woman,as soon as she appears on Tv i turn off.
Talk about me/myself/i.

growstuff Sat 20-Mar-21 15:32:24

Personally, I see absolutely nothing wrong with a display of flags. hmm

Galaxy Sat 20-Mar-21 15:37:33

I have concerns about hate speech legislation as well to those who mentioned it. It is appalling to mock people for race disability etc, but I think control of language has even more dangers. If you are happy for someone to be reprimanded for mocking the queen you also must be prepared for them to be reprimanded for saying something positive about the queen. Who gets to decide what speech is ok.

Huw Edwards had the Welsh flag in the background because Wales have a very important rugby game today. What on earth is wrong with that? Neither is he a ‘shouty’ man he is always polite and courteous. Other countries display their flags so why do some people in the UK object?

Chardy Sat 20-Mar-21 15:43:37

Ilovecheese

It was the male presenter who made the joke, and the huge flags do look silly. No one said anything about the photo of the Queen.

I couldn't agree more. She laughed, Charlie Stayt said it, she laughed. Oh and Robert Jenrick laughed, so I assume he wasn't insulted. I didn't hear anything about the Queen's picture.
The tweets she liked btw were inoffensive.
She is assertive when people go off point, which I like, as I do find some of the morning people on BBC and ITV a bit wet.

Kate1949 Sat 20-Mar-21 15:52:53

I agree re Saturday Kitchen. I've never seen Naga much before as I don't watch BBC Breakfast but she was so rude and disparaging to Matt Tebbutt on this. Awful.

Redhead56 Sat 20-Mar-21 15:56:10

I think she is arrogant and prefer Louise Minchin who is down to earth

Nobody said he was a shouty man and his flag tweets were nods to Naga

Casdon Sat 20-Mar-21 16:03:06

I’ll just put the tweets of a white man here. And clearly some people have never heard R4 Today and interrupting, shouty men

It was this bit above of your post from this morning suziewoosie, Gwyneth picked up the same inference about Huw Edwards that I did, which you explained earlier wasn’t what you meant.

AGAA4 Sat 20-Mar-21 16:11:22

Naga did mention the picture of the Queen but not in a disrespectful way. She can be very good at times and at others she is rude. Charlie does sometimes make people feel uncomfortable, not politicians but just ordinary guests so he is as bad.

jacqrose Sat 20-Mar-21 16:13:47

I think that whenever I’ve seen Naga Munchetty and Matt Tebbutt on TV they have always been very jokey with each other. So much so that I’ve always thought they are probably friends outside of work.

NellG Sat 20-Mar-21 16:28:32

TV Presenters should be like US presidents and have a maximum term of exposure. Familiarity breeds contempt both ways I think - we get sick of the sight of them after too long and they get rather too complacent.

jacqrose Sat 20-Mar-21 16:53:30

NellG I think they would say they are TV journalists rather than presenters. But you are right about getting sick of the sight of them. Perhaps they could all swap to other news programmes at the end of their contracts. Personally I think Louise Minchin would be great on TV at 4a.m. wink

Boz Sat 20-Mar-21 17:15:56

I think the BBC should re-vamp the breakfast news. I think all the presenters (and particular the one with Minchin - Dan?) should go. I much prefer Sky News. Really tired of the cosy couch scenario much loved by the BBC.
