Eurovision Song Contest....time to leave?

Why is it we can never produce an exciting song or artist even though we have the given the world the very best of popular music over the last 60 years? I imagine we are getting null points because the song is rubbish, not because they don't like us.
Should we leave Eurovision altogether? We are contributing a fair bit towards it, which seems like a waste of money if we can't make more effort with our entries.

I don't think we should all have prizes - it's not Alice in Wonderland. wink Although it looks that way sometimes ?

The fact that Australia are in it surely shows it's not to be taken too seriously. It's for fun!!

If we in the UK believed only the taking part mattered I suspect we’d be the only country. Certainly mein Bruder didn’t think so. He was quite vocal about the voting system which allowed Germany to come so low, but enjoyed reminding me that we had nul points.

Having seen and heard the German song, I suspect they had a pretty good idea they weren't going to win.

I didn’t watch it, but found a clip afterwards. I can see why it wasn’t a hit, but saying that wouldn’t convince mein Bruder and he’d just remind me that we got fewer points.

A medal for having been a performer at The Eurovision Song Contest for each performer would, in my opinion be a good thing.

Australia is a member of Eurovision.

The UK song was not good but I think if we had entered The Beatles and Rolling Stones combind we still would have got nil points.

WHY? do we keep stumping up our scarce cash and keep banging on about being 'one of the main contributors' ?!? Who actually gives a stuff? It's crass, old fashioned and has turned into a festival for the gay community in UK, which is fine, rock on! But. That is not what we signed up for In The 50s !! Back then there was only BBC run by Marmaduke Hussey and his ex SOE pals in the beeb thinking they were being benevolent to poor old war torn Europe after we won (yeah right) the war. We were part of an elite group of politicians etc who were trying to force us all to be mates so we wouldn't knock 7 bells out of each other again! ENOUGH! That was then-this is now. We don't need them or this heap of utter junk and they don't want us! In any way shape or form..... except for our funding to put this outdated amateurish karaoke bash on each year. We had BREXIT can we not have EUREXIT too? Pleeeeze?

I thought our song was nondescript and I didn’t even recognise the singer! If we are to continue in the contest someone needs to come up with a worthy song. I hope this is not political. I didn’t like the winning song either.

Agree . Europe takes this so very seriously mostly because of their lack of true talent and absence in the world of popular music in general. UK have always lead the world with popular music

I love Eurovision. I love the funny songs, the completely barking mad songs, the sad songs and sometimes you actually get really wonderful songs that are worth repeat listening. Then to cap it all you get the sarcastic commentary which is a right old hoot. Long May it run.

Honestly, what world are people living in? Somebody phone U2, quick. Or a-ha. Or ABBA. Or Enrique Inglesias. Or.....

To win the United Kingdom needs something with a fast tempo and a beat.

Something with action, like this.

and this

though that would be impossible as a live on-stage performance!

Now those artists would make Eurovision so much more enjoyable. I would watch it then . Unfortunately non of the present artistes have anywhere near their calibre, so I’ve read .
