Did anyone else watch this on Sunday evening?

I'm just watching it again (hoping to avoid the graphic scenes this time) as I want to check the 'facts'. I see it is a series.

What Alegrias1 said (all 3 posts).

If you read "Spike. The Virus vs the People" by Jeremy Farrar (Director of the Wellcome Trust and a member of SAGE, so he knows what he is talking about) you will see why he now thinks that it was passed from bats to some other species to humans.

25Avelon 8.36 I remember.

Also I think another poster was called a racist for voicing exactly what is being said today, and her post deleted.

I guess it's a case of when facts change I change my mind

I keep an open mind on it but I do remember listening to this theory.

What I gained from the TV documentary was:
Research at the Wuhan Institute was conducted primarily at safety Level 2 - on the instruction of the Chinese government.
A Chinese scientist was recorded as saying they never did the research at Level 4.
Level 2 is equivalent to a dentist.

December 2020 Peter Daszek a scientist working in China at the institute puts out a message saying it's all a conspiracy.

China says they don't have live bats at the institute.

A promotional video by the institute shows bats in cages.

Wuhan Institute have patents for bat cages.

Next question: What is the intermedic species the virus passed from bats? Research carried out away from China after extensive research found only one: Humans.

This coronavirus had other anomalies - in its cell, it has a 'furin cleavage site' - in original SARS virus this is not there.

The WHO team in February chose Peter Daszek over 3 people the US put forward as the only American.

The 'furin cleavage site' seems to be what is causing the damage -it's linked to lung problems.

It’s interesting that this could have been worked on for some time to alter its make up for variant and transmissibility so that we could be prepared for a pandemic, looks like whoever has caused rather than being prepared. It will be interesting to see the US findings which I think are imminently to be published. Whatever anyone says it may not prove anything.
The Chinese’s bio security at level 2 is despicable and you could debate is this ‘germ warfare’? Who knows ?

The 'furin cleavage' is very significant.

It could have been as simple as a humanised mouse not being handled with the right gloves, or biting a lab assistant, or escaping, couldn't it.

I'm looking forward to Sunday's episode.

Me too Shandy

I see / heard on the car radio - the report Biden requested has been released - thankfully, I feel he's bowed out gracefully rather than cause hostile relations with China.

I haven't watched the programme but when DD had a chinese student working with her for a year she said the chinese girl was amazed to find that everyone wore a pair of gloves in the lab - at home they'd only been allowed one glove each. She also casually mentioned the time her hair fell out because of the radio active substances she was working with. It does seem that safety isn't as important to the chinese.

I can't believe I forgot to watch it tonight! Will catch up tomorrow.

Deedaa, a few years ago my friend's son studied in China and was very concerned at the lack of health and safety - zero in some of the businesses he had to study. He was also concerned at the hours of work/pressure some people were working under. His apartment block had nets outside the windows because people 'jumped' so often. I do try not buy goods made in China since finding this out.

Last week the Times did an in depth article about the start of the pandemic. One major factor was the influence that China has spent 10 developing over the WHO. Apparently they were stung by previous criticism. The article indicated this was responsible for the slow response and the initial report from the WHO that said it was of natural origin. A pandemic was not declared until march 18, when it was already in 18 countries. China has been determined to cover up the origin of the virus so the question has to be asked why?

maddyone Mon 30-Aug-21 15:01:42

If the virus had occurred naturally in a street market, I cannot see why the Chinese would have been so keen to cover up what had happened. I also cannot understand why they were so determined not tell the world for so long if it had occurred through a street market. I have felt right from the beginning that it was something to do with one of the two labs located in Wuhan. It’s highly coincidental that the virus started in Wuhan, right there in the very city which has two laboratories working on the coronavirus virus. It’s so coincidental that it’s actually not a coincidence.

Link to the US report if anyone wants to read it for themselves.

I've watch half of the second episode - then the sound went.

In May 2019 WI V was doing tendering for biosafety equipment & renovation.
June 2019 'Analyse 10 important viruses and identify major pathogens from wild animals & risk assessments.'

Then after the covid outbreak say they didn't realise the risks!!?

Shandy57 Fri 03-Sept-21 14:23:12

I searched for an episode 2 without success last night Ro60, where did you find it please?

Shandy I too had a slight job finding it. I typed the title into 'search' on the TV . The recording date was 30th August.
Hope this helps.

The l!it thickens .. Interesting to know what others think.
