Heard Adele new song today on the radio and again on the lunch time BBC news, which everyone is raving about, but DH and I couldn't understand a word she was saying? We have previously liked her music but don't think I will be rushing to download this one. Also is it "News" that she has released another album? What do others think?

I’m currently watching the programme about Paul Simon on Sky Arts and was thinking about divorce/break up songs/albums (I’d forgotten that he was married to Carrie Fisher).I seem to remember my daughter saying years ago, when her album was really popular, how lucky it was for Dido that she broke up with her boyfriend as she wouldn’t’ve had a hit album otherwise. Someone else was talking about ‘the break up album’ the other day, but I can’t remember who it was.

Well said Rosina

Adele must be laughing all the way to the bank, because she is the most overrated singer ever. She has hardly produced any music and they are mostly miserable heartbreak songs. I find it quite shocking she received an MBE, when you think of all the singers and groups who have been around for decades and done a huge volume of work. Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues has been around since the 1960s, has written countless songs and contributed so much more (just one example). And yet Adele gets an MBE after 5 minutes in the charts, which shows how meaningless those gongs are.

I'm not that keen on Adele. She doesn't seem to use a natural voice, it seems strained to me and perhaps that is why she ended up with throat problems.

I’m really confused about why it was on the main news at 10pm. Adele has released an album - so what?! Ok, it’s the first album in however many years, again so what?! I do like Adele and her music, but not sure about the new song yet. So much HYPE!!

Oldwoman70 Sat 16-Oct-21 07:46:32

First time I heard it my reaction was that it sounds very much like her other songs - having listened to it several times now I haven't changed my opinion.

Esspee Sat 16-Oct-21 07:53:00

Her PR people are exceptionally good to have obtained so much free (or perhaps not free?) publicity from the BBC, online and on both major news bulletins.

I know she has a massive following of devoted fans - but I've never really enjoyed her singing. It's all very much the same.

OurKid1 Sat 16-Oct-21 09:29:38

I thought the same - it's not news; it's advertising. I wonder who she know"I was living my life for the first time without compromise, without criticism and with full control. It felt empowering."s to get this on the main news. Surely many other singers (famous and not so famous) have released albums after a few years away - Sting, for example. I guess it's because she's making a 'statement' about it being a way to explain/justify her divorce to her son, but I'm not sure media publicity for her marital woes is a healthy way (for him) to explain it. The statement she made ""I was living my life for the first time without compromise, without criticism and with full control. It felt empowering," seems very selfish considering she has a young son. I shouldn't think many of us can (or should) live our lives that way. I wonder if she will feel the same way if he does the same to her (living his life etc... ) when he's an adult. Doubt it somehow.

OurKid1 Sat 16-Oct-21 09:31:51

Sorry, that post was a mess - copied and pasted her statement in the wrong place. Hope you can make sense of it - her comment should have come only before the part about her son - not where it magically appeared for a second time - near the beginning!!!! Flippin' technology/my fingers going rogue!!

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 10:04:27

It is a beautiful song about the struggle they all went through during her divorce. The words are very clear on the YouTube download I have and I absolutely love it. The house being cleared, her driving away - what's not to love. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful. I love it.

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 10:06:15

Mind you I wouldn't expect anything other than the remarks above from other posters. No praise for anyone, just ripping into people.

I love Adele’s voice and she’s an extremely talented songwriter. And I can’t see anything in the lyrics of this song to cause pain to her son or her ex.

On the other hand a friend of DD2’s had recently split up with one of the songwriters of the Kaiser Chiefs’ Every Day I Love You Less And Less. She wasn’t happy to think that she was probably the inspiration for such lines as:
It makes me sick to think of you undressed.

Brutal.

henetha Sat 16-Oct-21 10:31:33

Well I like her. And I love the new song.

LuckyFour Sat 16-Oct-21 10:52:34

Adele is definitely not news. Who cares if she's made a new record. I heard it about five times the day before yesterday and found it tedious and boring.
Then we have the killing of a well loved MP. Shocking. This is news but very very sad.

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 11:39:43

Oh fgs. Another stupid comment. No one is trying to detract from the awful events that have happened to the MP, we are discussing music. Perhaps you would like to add this sort of comment to the Games threads etc if it makes you feel better.

Mary59nana Sat 16-Oct-21 12:00:53

Never liked Adele singing her voice just grates on me .
As for the attention given to her new Album it is safe to say it will be No 1 ...... So its a big media hype and of course big money will be made by all

lavenderzen Sat 16-Oct-21 13:08:55

Good grin grin

Rosina Sat 16-Oct-21 16:00:32

lavenderzen have you been a poster in the past? I seem to recognise your style.

Eloethan Mon 18-Oct-21 23:20:57

Whether you like Adele or you don't like her, is it really appropriate for the release of her album to be part of the news broadcasts?

skunkhair63 Mon 18-Oct-21 23:30:53

Typical Adele song. Too much wailing for me, sorry!

Atqui Sat 23-Oct-21 21:59:30

I was interested to hear what she wrote about her break up, but couldn’t understand a word! Guess I’d better download the lyrics.
I applaud her ability to lose all that weight, but on the other hand it was great to have a successful singer who was recognised for her talent and not her body.

Chestnut Sun 24-Oct-21 11:56:32

This is because it's such a rare event! ???
Rather like an eclipse.
She has done virtually nothing when you compare her to people who have been around for decades and have written hundreds of amazing songs.

Casdon Sun 24-Oct-21 12:04:41

People on here who don’t like Adele seem to ignore the fact that she has had the two best selling albums in the UK in the last 10 years, and is a worldwide bestseller. Not many British artists have achieved that in 40 year long careers. You may not like her but millions do, and her new single has gone straight to number 1.

Boz Sun 24-Oct-21 12:12:57

I like Adele and her music but am getting fed-up with the modern trend of letting all your troubles out for public consumption, Thank God Prince Harry doesn't sing. Yet
