Anyone else watching? so many iconic songs, it’s brought back lots of memories.

Luckygirl3

I have put off watching it as I think it might make me sad - all the songs I listened to with OH. I will gird up my loins and have a go at it when I am feeling strong.

I braved it, Luckygirl. I did feel sad but also grateful for the fun times.

The Long And Winding Road had me in bits though.

I don't care who had a brain or who is ignorant. They gave me a happy time after a horrible childhood. I loved them and still do. They were lovely to their fans.

I was a huge Beatles fan but find after all these years that it's John's songs I still want to listen to and never grow tired of hearing. I am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, Tomorrow Never Knows, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I can put these on any time and still marvel at them, and after 50 plus years that is quite something.

I hope everyone is getting ready to watch 'Let It Be' on Disney Plus next Thurs, Fri, Sat. I posted another thread about this. It's a huge event, 4 years in the making, with all new colour footage and sharp as if it was filmed yesterday. No Beatles fan can afford to miss this!

Kate1949 Mon 22-Nov-21 00:04:35

I am trying to find it Chestnut. I thought it was called Get Back. No wonder I can't find it.

Chestnut Mon 22-Nov-21 00:12:26

My mistake. It's The Beatles: Get Back
Here's the trailer:

Or maybe better in English:

Can’t stand the man.

I’m wondering why you dislike him? We went to Liverpool two years ago and went on a bus tour of the city. We drove past the Institute For Performing Arts he founded and he has taken a great interest in it. None of the other Beatles seem to have done anything at all for Liverpool.

I wouldn't say I can't stand the man but I've never been a fan. I don't think he would have got anywhere without John Lennon. The Frog Chorus sums up his music for me. Still, each to their own.

knspol Mon 22-Nov-21 12:06:18

Never liked PMc always thought he was insincere but do admit to enjoying some of their hits all over again, memories

Theoddbird Mon 22-Nov-21 12:12:05

I really enjoyed it smile

HannahLoisLuke Mon 22-Nov-21 12:34:28

I haven’t watched it yet so won’t comment on how he sounds now. Relieved to hear that some GNs think his voice has improved from a few years ago when, let’s face it he sounded like a cracked plate.
I just wish he’d keep his bitterness and competitiveness about John Lennon and the Stones to himself. It just makes him seem pathetic. Who cares who’s name comes first on the song writing credits and to call the Stones a cover band is just spiteful, and untrue.

Missiseff Mon 22-Nov-21 12:51:14

No. Can't stand him. He can't sing. He's past it.

Joesoap Mon 22-Nov-21 14:03:17

I love Paul and having been born in Liverpool, with the Beatles I am very proud of what he has done for the City, which he never forgets, he is often there visiting his "fame" School and has donated a lot of money for various things in Liverpool.
I agree with the OP he is far better now he doesnt die his hair, but his voice isnt as good any more.
He and I will never forget our wonderful home town Liverpool.

polly123 Mon 22-Nov-21 14:10:12

I was a huge Beatles fan too but was never really interested in PM. Always preferred John Lennon who was the really creative force behind the Beatles. Still love their songs but can definitely do without PM who lacks wit and charisma for me.

Kate1949 Mon 22-Nov-21 14:10:53

For me, none of The Beatles can do any wrong. No, his voice isn't what is was but he's getting on for 80. I think he looks great.

Gabrielle56 Mon 22-Nov-21 14:41:39

Yes well I think we all know who was on the driving seat when the hair was a disaster! He's iconic the world over and I just love watching and listening to him. He was the very first male I was remotely'inyerrsted ' in at the tender age of 7!!!! " Genius" doesn't start to capture his talents

Gabrielle56 Mon 22-Nov-21 14:44:53

I think he was very quick to recognise the power of image and promotion, willing to be what the fans wanted, sometimes at odds to his true character. I know what you mean , I think some of us detected the public persona was not the real him? It's commercialisation of a product , and he recognised that as priceless!

Can’t stand the man.

Same here. There is something about him I just can’t abide (and he can’t sing).

SillyNanny321 Mon 22-Nov-21 14:50:02

Never a Beatles fan but did like George on his own & Lennon too! Could never stand McC self entitlement but each to his own!

Chestnut Mon 22-Nov-21 15:55:53

Here's a track where the sound really takes me back because it perfectly captures the late 1960s:
Beatles Flying

LuckyFour Mon 22-Nov-21 16:22:55

I loved hearing Paul sing live again. It was an absolute joy. My DH and I sang along to all of it.
By the way - what's Ringo doing these days? You never hear of him.

Kate1949 Mon 22-Nov-21 16:33:01

I wholeheartedly agree Gabrielle. Luckyfour Ringo tours constantly - Ringo Starr and The All Starr Band.

seadragon Mon 22-Nov-21 16:45:14

Never 'got' the Beatles despite extensive lobbying by my school friends. I was a "Kinks' and 'Trogs' fan apart from Scott Walker ...whose voice still takes me right back to my youth.

Shandy57 Mon 22-Nov-21 16:46:27

I don't like him as a person or performer either, and I'm not sure why, there must be a reason! We went to see him at the RAH about twenty years ago and his voice was absolutely awful. I think he reminds me a bit of Branson, pots of money and a huge ego.
