Anyone else watching? so many iconic songs, it’s brought back lots of memories.

Dinahmo Sat 20-Nov-21 21:31:54

Yes. Great. I thought he was dreadful when he played at the London Olympics but his voice has come back and he's no longer dyeing his hair.

As an oldie it was really good to see so many young people in the various audiences and singing along, knowing all the words.

Luckygirl3 Sat 20-Nov-21 21:34:58

I have put off watching it as I think it might make me sad - all the songs I listened to with OH. I will gird up my loins and have a go at it when I am feeling strong.

granfromafar Sat 20-Nov-21 21:40:24

We're watching and singing along to all the great songs!

I've recorded all last night's McCartney programmes to watch when DH is out. He's not interested.

henetha Sun 21-Nov-21 10:12:57

I watched it and thought it was marvellous. All those great songs. Paul is a musical genius whose songs will live for a long time.

tanith Sun 21-Nov-21 10:43:48

I quite agree henetha

Rosalyn69 Sun 21-Nov-21 10:52:52

Can’t stand the man.

Kate1949 Sun 21-Nov-21 10:57:19

I agree to henetha. Some of those lovely songs were written when he (they) were very young. How clever.
I know someone (a young person) who has joined a group called 'Stop Paul McCartney from performing live'. Why? I wonder what she's ever achieved in life?

henetha Sun 21-Nov-21 11:01:22

What!!!! Why on earth did she do that? If she had one ounce of his talent she'd be lucky. And why is there a group dedicated to such a ridiculous idea?!

Kate1949 Sun 21-Nov-21 11:10:01

Exactly. There are a few similar groups I believe. Stop Elton John, The Rolling Stones etc.

Kate1949 Sun 21-Nov-21 11:13:18

Just to add, I'm not sure if they are actual groups, rather just opinions. This person has it in large letters on her Facebook page. Grr

glammanana Sun 21-Nov-21 11:13:35

It was a brilliant show keep very quiet from people as to where the performance would be done until the last minute really he had been in Liverpool for a couple of days before the show, fans where asked to not film the show as you heard him mention near the end.
I was in the middle of the crowd with my friend we did not go with the intention of seeing him perform as we knew nothing about it when we set off to Liverpool what a special time it was .

I didn't realise it was going to be a programme of clips but enjoyed most of it. I'm glad he's stopped dyeing his hair and his voice seems to be better than it was in the mid-2000s. Love the sea views behind him and Lauren Laverne from what I guess is his Peasmarsh house. I do think both he and Bob Mortimer could have shaved before their chat though.

A (very small) claim to fame is that I once met a couple of pipers who were in the band backing him on Mull of Kintyre and stayed in a castle near the beach featured in the video (it belongs to the Landmark Trust - I wasn't a guest of the Laird or anything smile).

Sara1954 Sun 21-Nov-21 16:16:47

Fabulous!
Didn’t watch it all as my eleven year old granddaughter couldn’t see the attraction, but I intend to watch from beginning to end, and sing along loudly, as soon as I get an evening to myself.

Chestnut Sun 21-Nov-21 16:51:07

Sara1954 Probably no good showing a child 'old' Paul. I show my grandchildren clips of them when young and try to keep it fun. Even as pre-schoolers they all loved this one and as a bonus it involves dressing up:
Hello Goodbye
There are lots of old clips on You Tube. I also play their music so they get used to hearing it (psychological brain-washing ha ha). I think we need to make sure the children know how important they were, along with Elvis and others, but you have to be selective as so much is not suitable for children.

Treebee Sun 21-Nov-21 17:00:21

Yes, loved it! I sang and danced along, what a treat.

Sara1954 Sun 21-Nov-21 17:37:50

Chestnut
When he sang ‘just another Day’ I could imagine myself back in my college room singing along, and it seemed so strange to be sat with one of my grandchildren, so many years later still singing along.

Kate1949 Sun 21-Nov-21 19:04:27

I was 'in love' with George. I showed my teenage granddaughter a video of him singing Happy Just to Dance with You from A Hard Day's Night. I said 'Isn't he gorgeous?'. She said 'Absolutely Not' grin

I was involved when he did his so-called ‘classical’ piece, The Liverpool Oratorio. (It was actually almost entirely written by Carl Davis.) We were not impressed. He had a vastly overinflated view of his own ability. The ability to turn out the occasional catchy tune does not mean he is a composer. He was out of his depth.

Georgesgran Sun 21-Nov-21 20:27:05

Same as Rosalyn69 here. Can’t stand him.

Jane43 Sun 21-Nov-21 21:13:20

Can’t stand the man.

I’m wondering why you dislike him? We went to Liverpool two years ago and went on a bus tour of the city. We drove past the Institute For Performing Arts he founded and he has taken a great interest in it. None of the other Beatles seem to have done anything at all for Liverpool.

?out of his depth sinking in millions of £s.

Millions of people love and buy all his 'occasional catchy tunes'.

Yes. He had the attitude that because he had all the money that somehow meant he didn’t need to learn the rudiments of orchestral composition, which is why Carl Davis did it for him. No doubt PM got all the money for that, too. He may be rich, but he is ignorant. Oddly humourless, too.

John Lennon was the Beatle with a brain.
