Tonight on BBC2. William and Harry’s relationship with the press. Two episodes, tonight’s starts with the Diamond Jubilee and ends with Harry’s wedding.

Episode 2 might be more interesting, after the ‘split’.

What? confused

Maybe we should have a heading that says something like "I don't want any comments on this thread from Poster X please because Poster Y and I are having a conversation about something else entirely".

I'll just slink off back to my corner.

Well the quote facility has been used by me multiple times on this thread to talk to the person I wanted to address.

Anyway, ALEGRIAS would you like to comment on what Ian Hislop said about Scotland? I would be jumping on that here too if he had said that about Devon. So no, not just bling!

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 11:14:31

Make a programme about the press (media?) manipulating the story but make sure you spin it (manipulate it?) in a certain way.

It wasn't made by Meghan and Harry though.

What about all those Royal correspondents who were asked to comment? What about the one who said that she had to pit Catherine against Meghan because that's how the world works?

And anybody who thinks it must have been made by H&M because that's what they're like, is falling for the manipulation of the press.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 11:15:50

Well JOSIANNE I haven't got to that bit yet. I'll maybe go and watch it now.

I'm not sure where you got that from. I don't think I said anything about H&M making the programme.

I don't think interviewing the people you are accusing of manipulating the story is the same as someone representing from one side have their say while the other side is left out. As you pointed out those press people have done the same to William as to Harry so they aren't representing one side.

Involving Meghan's solicitor, who let's face it is paid to argue her point of view because that is what lawyers do, and Scobie who is certainly used to put out the Sussex story is biased.

I suppose we could say that anyone who thinks it was entirely unbiased has fallen for the manipulation of the programme but that would be a bit rude.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 11:27:10

Well I haven't seen all of it yet theworriedwell. So I don't know if its unbiased or not.

However looking at the comments on here there is a definite skewing towards the anti-M&H camp throughout it. Implications that things were said on the documentary that were obviously in support of M&H because look who said them and we know s/he's a liar. Or worse still, a Republican shock

As you pointed out those press people have done the same to William as to Harry so they aren't representing one side.

That's exactly my point...

Actually Alegrias if you look at my very first comment on Tuesday 23rd I shared the same thoughts about the presenter and Scobie, both supporters of M & H, as I still hold today. I dislike the one, but have time for the other - though many might disagree. So no skewing.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 11:38:43

You're not the only one commenting Josianne.

Still can't find the bit with Hislop making comments about Scotland...

Josianne Tue 30-Nov-21 11:47:06

It was near the beginning, Alegrias, something about life in Scotland being dull and boring and that the rest of us are not terribly jealous about it.
I have never been to Scotland, (I am told it is like beautiful NZ which I visit regularly), but just as bling suggests one thing to me the comment on Scotland suggests it is uninspiring and featureless. That is yet again putting a negative message across which may well be wrong, but which sticks.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 11:53:26

OK, I'm really confused. Can't find Hislop saying anything like that. I'll watch again after lunch.

Anniebach Tue 30-Nov-21 12:14:10

Hislop spoke of things about the royals which were boring,
Dogs, Scotland and a few more

ayse Tue 30-Nov-21 12:16:34

It just confirms to me that the media are only interested in making money for their particular employer and tell stories that sell papers or encourage people to watch a particular channel. It’s all gossip an opinion.

Can anyone explain why the royals became so upset with the latest BBC offering? It’s reported that it was a matter of protocol ie not showing it to them before broadcast.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Dogs, how dare he?

Anniebach Tue 30-Nov-21 12:33:52

Agree Josianne. No such thing as a boring dog

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 12:36:47

What about Scots one?

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 12:49:54

Oh me, I found it. I don't think Hislop needs to worry about hordes of angry Scotsmen coming after him ??.

If there's a wrong end to the stick...

I suppose it is perception. To me it was as biased as much of what it was complaining about, I agree with much of what was said but unfortunately I think by being biased in some of what it presented they spoiled the argument.

Just wanted to add do you think that people seeing it as biased towards H&M might be because it was biased towards H&M?

Anniebach Tue 30-Nov-21 13:01:29

No one could ever say a Scottie is boring, exhausting yes, boring never.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 13:16:52

Just wanted to add do you think that people seeing it as biased towards H&M might be because it was biased towards H&M?

Yes, of course. Or it could be that some people are so obsessed with the narrative that M&H are always the bad guys that anything that doesn't paint them in the worst possible colours must be biased.

And quite frankly, anybody who thinks that Hislop was saying life in Scotland is boring, is really not giving a great example of how good their skills are at comprehending the content of TV programs and the meaning of commentators.

theworriedwell Tue 30-Nov-21 13:21:58

I plead not guilty to Hislop. I never watch him.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 13:24:22

But you brought him up...and told me what he said....

Which wasn't what he said...

confused

theworriedwell Tue 30-Nov-21 13:27:44

I didn't bring him up. He isn't someone who ever crosses my mind and I've got no idea what he said about Scotland good or bad.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 13:29:01

Oops, sorry, that'll teach me. Read the posts properly.

Apologies theworriedwell

theworriedwell Tue 30-Nov-21 13:30:14

Naughty step for you then. Or should it be writing lines? I'm not keen on the naughty step.
