Tonight on BBC2. William and Harry’s relationship with the press. Two episodes, tonight’s starts with the Diamond Jubilee and ends with Harry’s wedding.

Episode 2 might be more interesting, after the ‘split’.

I didn’t watch it, I don’t watch any of these, William and Kate seem to have moved over to ITV which says it all.

Methinks it's time for me to take everything the press, the lawyers and the friends say on this issue with a pinch of salt. Time for Harry and Meghan to shut up for good instead of all this recycled claptrap. Nothing achieved and not even remotely interesting.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 08:23:12

I'm about halfway through the first part of this and I think I must have been watching a different program from everyone else.

How many of us had forgotten that the press used to make William out to be lazy because he wouldn't play the game. Now he does play along with them, he's flavour of the month.

That's exactly what the programme showed Alegrias that both princes get their periods of popularity, but that negative stories sell faster and are more lapped up.

New book written by an American, he knows it was Charles who questioned the skin colour of the baby and he even knows
Camilla’s reply.

Exactly Josianne.

You will laugh at the 2nd programme Alegrias because in this one the lawyer knows everything too!

eazybee Tue 30-Nov-21 09:52:26

I haven't bothered to watch either programme and doubt if I will, but was fascinated to learn that by the lawyer's language as reported in the Daily Telegraph. After announcing that the Sussexes did not take a vow of silence and become like Trappist monks (if only), therefore not allowed to discuss anything.
What bullying means, apparently is "improperly using power repeatedly and deliberately to hurt someone physically or emotionally, and the D of S has absolutely denied ever doing that. That said, she wouldn't want to negate anyone's personal experiences." But "it is really hard to prove a negative, and to show you had not bullied someone by denying it."
Particularly when they have made formal complaints and are anxious to give evidence.

eazybee Tue 30-Nov-21 09:54:20

not 'to learn that by', simply 'read the lawyer's language.'

Does he explain how he knows? I mean did he bug the house, has he discussed it with Camilla? Or has he listened to gossip or made it up.

Calistemon Tue 30-Nov-21 10:00:42

I watched it half-heartedly (whilst doing something else) and did wonder how often Amol would put on an 'Oprah face'.

His jaw didn't drop quite as far as hers in her well-rehearsed reactions but often enough to notice that this wasn't a totally unbiased programme.

shock

Wonder who?

Made it up ? surely not

Harry seems really happy with Meghan and his little family. Can't we just wish them well and stop obsessing about them?

I’d love to do that but why, oh why, do they carry on with their complaints and law suits. If they want peace, can’t they just stay schtumm? Merit is sexist and demeaning, Sussexit is less so? For goodness sake!

grandMattie Tue 30-Nov-21 10:38:48

Merit = Mexit

The BBC programmes if nothing else made it evident that it isn't little old you and me as 'we" obsessing about them, it's initially the media, particularly the press. But of course "we" might get sucked in. To hear some of those journalists speaking they obviously live and breathe the stuff.
And of course the next instalment in Harry's books will just perpetuate this in the way that he says he can't abide!

GagaJo Tue 30-Nov-21 10:41:32

Well yes, it is. Really, it should have been Hexit. Meghan is American. She was just going home. It was Harry that emigrated. But it's always the female that gets blamed. He is an adult and gets to make his own decisions.

I can't stand him Calistemon, well actually that's ok because I'm usually sitting on the sofa, not standing!

He is so rude the way he just chucked the newspapers under the writers' noses with disdain, especially Camilla Tominey.
And all that horrible bling! Thinks very highly of himself.

So, Mex put a hex on Harry, and will turn him into one of the chickens next! Sorry!

I was definitely watching another program then.

I was watching a program about how the press creates the story and manipulates public opinion. That's what Trevor Phillips literally said. But here we have another set of brickbats being thrown at people viewed as the baddies, even the reporters get some insults thrown their way because they think too highly of themselves and they dare to wear gold jewellery and have once said something we don't like about Catherine.

In the words of another thread, you couldn't make it up.

Josianne Tue 30-Nov-21 10:55:50

I wasn't talking to you Alegrias. Calistemon and I might have had our own discussions about fashion and its messages elsewhere.

Alegrias1 Tue 30-Nov-21 10:58:27

What? confused

Maybe we should have a heading that says something like "I don't want any comments on this thread from Poster X please because Poster Y and I are having a conversation about something else entirely".

I'll just slink off back to my corner.

I think it is the hypocrisy that grates. Make a programme about the press (media?) manipulating the story but make sure you spin it (manipulate it?) in a certain way.

I have to say I haven't watched the 2nd episode but from the first I don't think it was balanced, the fact that Meghan's solicitor told us quite categorically that Meghan hadn't bullied anyone when she doesn't actually know that unless she has supervised her 24/7 for years and Scobie gave his view when we know that he has been fed info from Meghan but William was just invited to comment without knowing what he was commenting on doesn't seem balanced to me.
