Why are we subjected to such rubbish

Why would you allow the cameras into your disorganised, junk filled house and then let the likes of Stacey Solomon in to re-organise it?
Why would you let a team of cleaners in to transform your filthy living conditions into something more bearable and feel it is OK to share the experience on national television?
What goes through the minds of people who want to share the fact that they are in debt because they only buy designer stuff and eat take-aways 5 nights a week so are happy let two minor celebrities into their home to explain how to save money by doing more home cooking and shopping for cheaper alternatives?
Add all the above to the ridiculous number of cookery programmes we have to endure and I am increasingly turning to the "off" button on my remote.
This is just TV producers being lazy and unimaginative

the production teams contact you
I have been contacted two or three times in the past and have said no (medical)

MissAdventure Thu 02-Dec-21 22:00:10

Ooh!
What's wrong with you?
I absolutely love a doctor programme.
Again, once people are in the room complaining about their piles, then you can see that they have other serious struggles going on - I love it.
People watching at it's very best, in my opinion.
The skills of the doctors, and the frailties of humans.

I quite like these programmes, I dont see why some posters are so condemning of them.
There are so many channels you can watch that are too your taste.

Calistemon Thu 02-Dec-21 22:10:27

M0nica
I for one can see a difference in the original programmes about those people who are compulsive hoarders and have psychological problems - those programmes did help these people and a psychologist therapist was there as part of the team to help them.

The newer programmes are just not like that - they seem to want to shame those who volunteer to open their homes to public scrutiny. However, in the main, the volunteers seem quite happy to have their half hour of fame. Or notoriety.

Psychologist or therapist

I don't generally judge and TV caters to deman but...

I really couldn't understand why people who were too embarassed to go to a doctor decided to finally go on national TV. I just can't see the logic

MissAdventure Thu 02-Dec-21 22:31:11

Lots of times they had spent years going to and fro to their doctors.
I know the feeling!

There was a man who was absolutely decimated by the removal of facial tumours.
The NHS had done as much as they could, and he was alive, but my god, his poor, poor face (what was left of it)
Embarrassing Doctors did surgery that made him look a hell of a lot better.

VioletSky Thu 02-Dec-21 22:38:19

Ah, I only saw a couple, that makes more sense Missadventure

MissAdventure Thu 02-Dec-21 22:42:59

There were a good few like that.
A little girl with terrible veruccas.
The doctors on the show were rather brusque to her mum, asking why she had let them get so bad.
It turned out, though, that the little girl had cancer- some type that attacked her immune system.

A man who had the leg of his jeans almost embedded in the flesh of his shin - he had skin cancer, despite multiple visits to his gp.

VioletSky Thu 02-Dec-21 22:43:50

Maybe I will give it a chance then!

MissAdventure Thu 02-Dec-21 22:48:19

Yes, it's about so much more than just enjoying gruesome things, and if you never watch medical stuff, you will have missed out on the sheer fun of this mans predicament.
No trigger warning- its funny!

MissAdventure Thu 02-Dec-21 22:49:28

Here we go. grin

Josianne

Also, why would you be filmed in the gp's consulting room?

Absolutely!
However, I haven’t set foot inside a GP’s consulting room for years. Unless you count a trip to see the nurse to get a flu jab annually.

If you think those programs are scraping the bottom of the barrel, I take it you haven't come across a program called Naked Attraction then Sashbel?
I think it's in t 8th series.

A film called The Show explores how ratings inform and control what type of program is made. In this fictional story, people are paid to commit suicide on screen.

I sometimes wonder how far away from this happening society is. Life is quite Orwellian as it is.

As ValerieF pointed out, the TV executives will drop the show when it stops making money. So I suppose we all have to stop watching.

Mind you, I thought that Naked Attraction would be a storm in a tea cup, but here it is on it's 8th season.

Blossoming Thu 02-Dec-21 23:58:37

I loved watching The Brain Hospital, one episode showed somebody having a procedure that my neurosurgeon thought I might need. I didn’t need it, in the end, but it was fascinating and reassuring to see it.

Sashabel Fri 03-Dec-21 10:20:57

Yes, Namsnanny, I have come across Naked Attraction when searching through the channels - Yuk!! Amazing it has got to series 8. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and the off button was hit very quickly.

GrammarGrandma Fri 03-Dec-21 11:37:10

I agree but don't "endure" it because would not dream of switching said programmes on.

harold Fri 03-Dec-21 11:39:17

From personal experience - if you have a moderately lined face I would not advise anyone to appear on TV - it will only look worse!

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Dec-21 11:40:48

Good advice harold. And it adds pounds.?

Jayne16 Fri 03-Dec-21 11:42:26

I agree that I wouldn't want the nation to see my mess. However I would love to have Stacey Solomon's carpenter to sort me out with some additional storage. I watch it just to see him

Beau1958 Fri 03-Dec-21 11:43:42

Totally agree and fed up with yet another ‘celeb’ touring around Britain ?

Namsnanny Fri 03-Dec-21 11:44:23

I take it you hit the right button sashabel?
Sorry I'm being facetious now (giggling like a 6 year old, and showing off like one too).?

HannahLoisLuke Fri 03-Dec-21 11:44:28

I saw the programme with Stacey Solomon and realised its the same programme as the one done by Nick Knowles a few months ago.
I do watch occasionally and find myself getting cross with these people although I realise they’re not all lazy gits.
The other programme that annoys me is the recent afternoon one called Fix it, Clean it or some such. It had Tommy Walsh, another handyman and a cleaning woman who screamed at every cobweb or bit of dust. Must admit though that I agreed with some if her eco friendly cleaning solutions.

inishowen Fri 03-Dec-21 11:47:46

Oh dear, I confess to liking house makeover programmes! I love to see how nice the home can look with a good clean, and new storage. I'm the same about garden makeovers. Just love them.

Namsnanny Fri 03-Dec-21 11:48:25

I dont tune in to programs showing operations Blossoming hate the blood and guts. But I can see the attraction, especially in your case. I'm glad you didnt need the op. in the end.
