Hello
I’m not really a ‘feel good’ movie type; in fact I’m not even really a movie type.
However, DH is in desperate need of chivvying / cheering.
I know that I can rely on you… thanks

Just watched 'Whiskey Galore' and thoroughly enjoyed it on BBC2 TV, didn't have to look away once!

Hi daisy. Just watched the trailer for the last bus on tube but it says the film is currently unavailable. Where did you watch it or buy it from.

pinkpeony Sun 19-Dec-21 12:29:05

I have been trying to find The Last Bus too.

I don’t know what streaming services you have but ‘Finch’ on Apple tv really fits the bill. Set in a devastated USA after solar flares a man played by Tom Hanks fights for survival and all he has for company is a small robot and a dog. He decides to build a more sophisticated robot and the relationship he and the new robot develop is what gives the feel good factor, lots of laughs and a few tear jerkers too.

Hi all, thank you all again smile
I’m going to make a list from this thread when I’m wide awake at 3am!
The Last Bus is on Netflix, but you can also buy it on other services.
Google where to watch it

Jane43 Apple is the only one that I don’t have!
That film does sound good. Anything with a dog in it is a good thing

Quite old films and often not pc, but could watch them time and time again; if he has quite a black sense of humour, like DH and me, then look out Animal House and Blues Brothers with the late lamented John Belushi plus Mash (either the film or the boxed set of the entire set of series). Also any of the Pink Panther films, and also Three Men and a Baby and Notting Hill always cheer me up. Boxed sets of Porridge, Vicar of Dibley, Dad’s Army as mentioned by others, Only Fools and Horses are also good fun. None particularly Christmassy except the odd episode though if that is important. We don’t have any of the subscription services, so don’t know if you can get these on those, but still time to get boxed sets if you want to boost Amazon’s profits! I bought to entire set of Mash a few years ago, and DD and I often sit through a few at a sitting when we get together. Mind you, we also sit through Harry Potter and Dr Who reruns too ??
I’m personally looking forward to David Tennant in Round the World in 80 Days on Boxing Day. Christmas visit to DD and partner has disappointingly been cancelled as she has Covid, so remote control is mine! (Well, technically ours)

If you can find it The Quartet, a suburb cast and the musicians are amazing. Or My Spy, it's hilarious.

Saving Grace
What we did on Our Holidays
Pretty Woman
Quartet

Our favourites include:
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Date Night and The Spy Who Dumped Me.

Wetnosewheatie Sun 19-Dec-21 13:18:01

You can't beat Local Hero or also Fisherman's Friends. For Christmas I enjoy the Holiday but not sure DH is that keen.

merlotgran Sun 19-Dec-21 13:21:12

The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society is on TV tonight.

Nicksmrs46 Sun 19-Dec-21 13:35:07

Virgin River is a good watch, we’re waiting for series 4 to air sometime in March .
Also on Netflix is Heartland, a long 14 series epic about Heartland ranch and the family who live there with their horses .
If you like horses and drama it’s a great watch !!

I personally detest all the 'notting hill' type crap that passes for feel good!! Unrealistic garbage and seriously cringeworthy. Feel good? Any of The Santa Clause movies with Tim Allen. Daddy's home/daddy's home 2. Anything but ageing old actors trying to act like teens in luuuurve...yuk!

Mummer Sun 19-Dec-21 13:40:53

Game night!!! Hilarious as is horrible bosses series, a bit naughty but dead funny!

Mummer Sun 19-Dec-21 13:43:51

Oh and 'We're the Millars' ...'Click and Collect' with Stephen merchant

Theoddbird Sun 19-Dec-21 13:50:25

It's a Wonderful Life....a wonderful film with a lesson to learn and a lovely ending. The Holiday...another lovely Christmas film. There are loads of Christmas ones on Prime.

Horatia Sun 19-Dec-21 13:53:21

Under the Greenwood Tree is a lovely film.

Musicgirl Sun 19-Dec-21 13:56:12

Kate1949, I loved Goodbye, Christopher Robin. I can also recommend Quartet and The Lady in the Van.

Mrsgranny Sun 19-Dec-21 14:05:36

Scrooged with Bill Murray, great feel good festive favourite.

mrswoo Sun 19-Dec-21 14:22:06

Another vote for:Yesterday,
Florence Foster Jenkins
Paddington.
I'm a total sucker for Notting Hill and Love Actually and, yes, I know they are not "real life".
Also I love Fiddler on the Roof and have seen it many times both on stage and on film. I find the music uplifting and joyful it what is ultimately a sad tale. A wonderful film.

Shirls52000 Sun 19-Dec-21 14:24:38

Last Christmas, Elf, Home Alone, Polar Express, Coco, Scrooged( love it), The Holiday,

kjmpde Sun 19-Dec-21 14:29:04

i like good films but for me it is always a murder or thriller - north by north west.

Bluecat Sun 19-Dec-21 14:39:58

Anything with Cary Grant but particularly Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story or the fabulous Arsenic And Old Lace.

And I know that it's meant for kids but we love The Muppets' Christmas Carol.
