I’ve always despised the man.
I’ve just read what he said about Gypsy Roma Traveller people, and I’m just disgusted.
I’ve worked extensively with Roma children and their families.
He has said that his ‘joke’ was an excellent one because it was ‘educational’.
I wish him nothing but ill.

What if he had used the example of disabled or gay people would he still have got the laugh?
This is not the way to educate people. There will be eejits who take what he said at face value and miss the finer points completely. I have always avoided him and will continue to do so.

I heard the 'joke' and what sickened me was the roar of approval from the audience at his mention of the holocaust, followed by an even loader roar when they heard his' joke'.
Who are these people?

I didn't used to like Ricky Gervais but I loved After Life series 1&2 and I have just watched Derek and loved that too.

I think Ricky Gervais’ take on things is more subtle - and you have to ‘get’ him. As someone disabled I’ve never taken offence at Gervais’ humour because it’s tongue in cheek and he credits people with the ability to laugh at themselves. The Office sometimes made us uncomfortable to the point of cringing because we could all relate to it in some way, and that same sharp observation in After Life and Derek tackled real issues with sensitivity and humour - not cheap laughs.

I agree smile

Gervais is 'credited' with telling perhaps the most offensive joke of all time in one of his stand up routines, interestingly.
I don't like Carr, but I consider he has always been offensive.

I’m aware of ‘The Aristocrats’ which all is about grossing each other out with paedophilia, necrophilia, coprolalia.
Yes. While others are helping/ teaching/ providing for each other.
