Did anyone else watch it?
Is anyone else confused?

The usual slightly dark, sometimes mumbled BBC production but spotting places we know was more interesting.

I watched the first 15 minutes-did not have a clue what was going on so switched to Trigger Point which was a lot better tonight although some still need teaching how to act if there is a sniper around.

I’m going to give Chloe another episode before I decide mainly because I quite fancy Brandon Michael Hall who plays Josh and I want to see if that relationship develops, but other than that it was a bit slow and confusing.

Why do they all have to mumble? weren't they trained at RADA. Find it very difficult to follow.

merlotgran Mon 07-Feb-22 00:19:33

Thank goodness for subtitles. I still didn’t have a clue what it was all about though.

Calendargirl Mon 07-Feb-22 07:13:33

Watched this instead of Trigger Point. Another weird drama. How did she manage to inveigle herself into so many social situations? Was she not worried that when she blithely announced she had just returned from working in Japan that someone would challenge her and ask if she knew so and so, had she visited such and such a place …..?

BlueBelle Mon 07-Feb-22 07:45:16

Watched it, got into it, wasn’t at all sure where it was going but thought main character acted well and my curiosity makes me keep going with some kind of enthusiasm couldn’t really work out what was wrong with the mother does she have Alzheimer’s ? she seemed pretty ok at the beginning then had a nurse/carer who only seemed to be with her at one point of time Not sure what all the girls aliases are going to be about
So agree it’s weird at the moment but we ll see

I can’t understand why anyone still complains about sound/mumbling etc etc use the subtitles that’s what they are for I have dreadful eyesight but still manage with watching and reading to get the full story (unless I fall asleep)

I stuck with it and watched episode 2 on iplayer straight afterwards. Agree too many scenes in dark lighting but liked it overall. Puzzled by how she could leave her mother overnight so much as she is obviously unwell (dementia?)

Jaxjacky Mon 07-Feb-22 07:51:08

We watched it, no problem with mumbling, but it did stretch credibility even though it’s fiction.

granfromafar Mon 07-Feb-22 08:01:18

Just read a review from the Guardian which says that Becky's mother does have early-onset dementia so that's cleared up. Also as an aside, the real-life father of Livia's children is JB Gill of JLS fame!

henetha Mon 07-Feb-22 09:33:09

I watched it and found it interesting enough to want to see the next episode. I recorded Trigger Point and watched it afterwards. I like that too. I'm easy to please grin

Farzanah Mon 07-Feb-22 09:36:40

Will watch first episode again as it jumbled my brain (not hard!) Looks promising when I can grasp it.

henetha Mon 07-Feb-22 09:36:41

The actor, Jack Farthing, who was so good as George Warleggan in Poldark, is in Chloe.

Witzend Mon 07-Feb-22 09:42:36

After about half an hour I went to bed to read my book, where I didn’t have to wonder what the hell was going on.

I left dh watching it and asked him this morning whether he’d worked out by the end what was going on.
He hadn’t.
(It’s entirely possible that he nodded off for a while, though.)

Annoying point No. 1:
I don't know how the mother managed to have a care package as there are people far worse than she who can't get one and are stuck in hospital or relatives are struggling.

No. 2
If you live in somewhere like Bristol you're bound to bump into the same people in certain social circles so would be recognised time after time (as she was)

No. 3
Yes, she would get caught out Calendargirl, unless she's done her homework thoroughly

No. 4
How can she afford all those expensive clothes etc on a temp's salary?

No. 5
Presumably she knew Chloë when they were young but didn't know her husband

Too many questions - can I be bothered to wait for the answers through 6 episodes?

Of course, I was trying to work out where I'd seen him before, thanks henetha.

trisher Mon 07-Feb-22 10:10:47

I was confused! Not only was she more than one person, she had flash backs and imaginary episodes! Help!
Witzend I'm not sure dropping off would matter, in fact missing some of it might make things clearer

But should those of us who don't have hearing problem be forced to use annoying subtitles because the actors can't enunciate properly?
You'd never have a problem with Judi Dench!

Ditto to that!

Even subtitles aren’t always easy to read, though. Dh was addicted to a French series on Netflix, Marseille, with Gerard Depardieu in a lead role, but half the time I couldn’t read the subtitles - very small, and the background colour made them blend in too much.
(Dh’s French isn’t as good as mine but he still pretended he could understand most of the very colloquial dialogue ?)

I never had a problem with Spiral subtitles, though.

Kali2 Mon 07-Feb-22 10:26:39

So weird, and yet, couldn't stop watching!

Callistemon21 Mon 07-Feb-22 10:30:06

It reminds me of a weird, unsettling book I've just read, the storyline is different but you had no clue what was going on.

Purplepixie Mon 07-Feb-22 10:31:01

I watched but found it a bit confusing - I will stick with it. Yes, I am also sick of the mumbling but I cannot read the subtitles and watch the picture at the same time.

Barberdice Mon 07-Feb-22 14:09:41

Did anyone else recognise the main character? She played Princess Anne
in The Crown on Netflix.

seacliff Mon 07-Feb-22 20:59:18

Ah thanks Barberdie, I knew I'd seen her somewhere before. I have no idea what's going on.

Barberdice Mon 07-Feb-22 21:31:05

Same here seacliff! I'm baffled too.

Kali2 Mon 07-Feb-22 21:52:14

can barely watch- what on earth next !!!
