It took our local cinema three attempts to screen Evita.

On the third consecutive night, the audience was all but wielding pitchforks and bearing torches.

They were great weren’t they! smile
Curry Houses and Car Mechanics.

I saw The Exorcist at our local flea pit when I was 14. That was a mistake and a half

Galaxy Thu 17-Feb-22 11:29:49

Ha I remember our tiny cinema where they changed reels mid film. We used to regularly heckle the hilarious local adverts.

Mollygo Thu 17-Feb-22 11:18:30

As it’s a film, it won’t make any difference. The casting has achieved what it wanted- publicity.
The ludicrousness of saying you’ve written a female role and casting a male remains exactly that.

trisher Thu 17-Feb-22 10:11:47

As it's a film I doubt you'll have any effect.

FannyCornforth Thu 17-Feb-22 10:03:08

You’ll heckle Jekyll, Kate?

NanKate Thu 17-Feb-22 07:51:38

I’ll heckle from the back Doodledog.

I think that is a definite possibility. If so, and if menstruation, pregnancy or menopause come into it in any way, I might go along and throw tomatoes at the stage!

Whatever the reason, casting a famously androgynous actor such as Izzard just muddies the waters, or was done to make some sort of statement, although I'm not sure what statement that would be.

My bet, now, is that Dr Jekyll is a female and Hyde is still Mr Hyde, a male.
So the Dr has to combat 'her' evil male side and, no doubt, triumph as a wonderful woman - just like Izzard. hmm

I have always been rubbish at makeup. He definitely did talk about how rubbish his look was at one stage.

trisher Sun 13-Feb-22 12:15:55

I remember him talking about how bad his make up was in the early days and how once he had money he hired a make-up artist and learned how to do it properly. Maybe he did his own hair as well.

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 12:12:36

He was probably a bit spooked that my friend shared the name of his late mother. I didn’t know that at the time

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 12:08:18

We were 19, he would have been 29

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 12:06:17

No, it was really badly bleached. A really bad job.
My mate was sporting badly bleached hair too, so we were having a laugh about it.
I think that he was intimidated by two very pretty young women flirting with him

trisher Sun 13-Feb-22 12:02:45

I'm trying to think what I would have said if someone had ever asked me that. It was just highlights though so perhaps not as noticeable but I don't think I would have had an answer, because I like it I suppose.

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 11:49:48

When I saw him in 1991 he just looked like a slightly scruffy bloke in a Hawaiian shirt, jeans and bleached hair.
I asked him why he bleached his hair, and he blushed. He was very shy

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 11:47:29

Oops

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 11:47:09

He definitely looks better in ‘men’s’ clothes.
And why the fake boobs?envy

trisher Sun 13-Feb-22 11:18:13

FannyCornforth

Can he walk in heels though?
Some men, and women (I’m thinking of you Tina Turner) just stomp

He's always worn heels. When he was doing tours he had some boots I really fancied, I couldn't wear them now. I'd probably fall and break something. His touring outfits were amazing as well.

It’s from when men had valets to do their buttons up.

I always thought it was something to do with carrying a sword.

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 10:35:35

Don’t be daft Galaxy smile
It’s fine!

Sorry fanny just seen your post that was a bit crass of me.

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Feb-22 10:33:58

The way we’re carrying on, Caliit might be best if we just exchanged mobile numbers grin

Galaxy Sun 13-Feb-22 10:33:05

I used to be able to walk in heels I seem to have lost the knack. Not that I caregrin.
