Talking of not strictly a period drama, but very much of its time, I would love to watch Georgie Girl. It would give a sense of how the 60s really were, rather than the Call the Midwife version. I think that’s why I like watching The Sweeney: unadulterated 70s wallpaper, attitudes & London how I remember it as a child.

A Place to Call Home was very good, one of the best Australian made series.

I would also like to see The Brothers and Howard’s Way, not strictly period dramas but very much of their time ie. the 70s and 80s respectively.

Oh, ditto to Mapp and Lucia! A delight!
I did enjoy the newer version, but the earlier one, with the peerless Nigel Hawthorne and Prunella Scales, is top notch. I now have it on DVD - a keeper.

Another fan of Mapp and Lucia but only 1985 version. i love Georgie played by Nigel Hawthorne and the fighting squabbles between Lucia and Mapp a delight, they were so well cast.

I cannot remember the name of the series about two sisters running a fashion house but it was very enjoyable. Was it ‘The Houe of Elliott’?

I recently watched the 1985 version with Prunella Scales and Geraldine McEwan. (I think that I got it from Amazon Video - it’s tricky to come by)
I haven’t seen the more recent version with Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor

Mapp and Lucia was excellent. On a few years ago around Christmas.

I enjoyed Berkeley Square when it was on TV. About nannies in the 1900's. It's on YouTube.

Yes, there was an adaptation of Howard's Cazalet novels twenty years ago with Hugh Bonneville as Hugh Cazalet. I don't know of it streaming anywhere.

There was talk of a remake a few years ago. Sid Gentle Films (The Durrells, Killing Eve) had acquired the rights so maybe it will be their next project.

Thanks Chestnut A Place to Call Home was on my watch list for ages but I never got around to watching it as there were so many episodes. It's an Australian drama based in the 1950's.

I can recommend 37 Days which has just been added to BritBox about the 37 days of political wrangling which took place between the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and all out war.

Stars Ian McDiarmid as Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey and Tim Piggott-Smith as PM Asquith. I wasn't sure at first. It felt a bit like a history lesson for year eight but twenty minutes in and I was hooked.
