It was epic. Of all the Beatles, Paul was the one that wanted to perform, wanted to carry on touring and entertaining people. And he gave that crowd (and those of us watching on tv) a night to remember.

Kandinsky Sun 26-Jun-22 08:16:01

He was brilliant!
So glad I watched til the end.
Must have been amazing to be there in the crowd. And he’s looking great for 80, and how fit! not easy being on stage performing for over 2 hours.

Sounds like a success I'm glad. I'll watch when I get home

Loved Paul and like high flying birds after son has converted me.

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:07:58

For some reason I burst into tears when he sang I've Just Seen a Face blush Memories I suppose. Our flipping recording cut off before the end angry I'll have to find it on Catch-up today. It was great though.

I'm at Glastonbury now...iwatched the Waterboys on a different stage so only sarthe last hour of PM .....I think I made the right call as everyone saying this morning in the toilet queue that theirs bit was pretty self indulgent and didn't really appeal....I enjoyed whati saw tho

Chestnut Sun 26-Jun-22 10:13:31

I'm surprised his old friend Jeff Lynne wasn't there. I hope he's okay and not poorly. He has worked with the Beatles many times including 'Free as a Bird' and at the George Harrison concert. Also in the Travelling Wilburys. He is really the 5th Beatle.

Farzanah Sun 26-Jun-22 10:14:33

I watched him last night and thought he looked good and had amazing stamina at 80 to stay the course too! His voice was better than I thought it would be but he had good support.

Sara1954 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:19:02

Everything was good, his voice was better than I expected, he looked fabulous.
My husband is a Mick Jagger fan, obviously I adore Paul, we often wonder who will give in first, after last night, no contest.

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:25:49

Sara Some (young) members of my family went to see The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park last night. They said they were terrific and Mick had boundless energy.

Me too Callistemon, saw the Beatles at Finsbury Park when I was 15 or 16. Couldn't hear a thing because of all the screaming.
I watched last night and he looked incredibly young for his 80 years, clearly has had some work done. He sounded a lot better than I expected and heard on the news this morning he sang fir two hours. Is that true? If so it’s astonishing and I applaud his energy.

Macca nailed it at 80, he was live for nearly 3 hours, as an encore he came back and did 4 more songs, that is stunning.
No breaks and I didn’t see him take a drink the whole time.

Will we ever see a performance to match it, just awesome.
Favourite song “Lady Madonna”

I agree Kate1949. Mick still belts it out, and he’s incredibly fit for his 78 years. Paul was good, but his voice is not quite what it was unfortunately. I saw Tom Jones live last weekend though, and I have to say he wins on the voice front. He’s 82, and his voice was absolutely incredible.

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:38:43

Casdon Yes Tom still has it. I haven't seen him live since the 60s when I saw him twice (and had a brief chat with him smile) but I've seen him in TV. What a voice.

Sara1954 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:43:31

Yes, I know he was playing last night, not really my cup of tea, but his energy is almost superhuman.

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:45:12

Not my cup of tea either but I admire them for keeping going.

Sara1954 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:45:19

Again, not a Tom Jones fan, but I agree his voice is still so powerful.

Sara1954 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:46:20

My husband wondered how he stayed on stage for so long without needing a loo break!

Sara1954 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:46:45

Paul, not Tom

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:51:02

That's what I was thinking about the Hyde Park show. I'd need the loo!

Deedaa Sun 26-Jun-22 11:00:33

I ended up sitting up with my son watching. Naturally he spent most of the time explaining all the guitars to me! I was right back being a student watching him. Brilliant! Heaven knows how he does it, it wore me out watching. When they played Love Me Do I realised I could still remember the first time I heard it all those years ago on Radio Luxembourg. I don't know why, but I knew it was something different.

Well, I did wonder if he had new knees ?

Caleo Sun 26-Jun-22 11:25:54

It's heartening that there is such a happy crowd of well -intentioned people and their heroes especially Greta and Jeremy.

I heard them sing that when they were the supporting act in a concert for two popular American singers.
When they went off everyone stamped their feet and chanted "We want the Beatles" all the way through the main acts.
How embarrassing for the other singers blush
But we knew a good thing when we heard it

I think it might have been the one I saw with Chris Montez and Tommy Roe, (Chris Montez dancing around in pink slippers). Enjoyed the show tonight, especially the older songs. He's great for an 80 year old! Surprised he didn't mention Ringo as well as paying tribute to John and George.

Yes - that was the one. They were touring and I saw them in Wolverhampton, a never-to-be-forgotten night! I wanted to go ad get my programme autographed afterwards but we had to rush and catch the coach home.

My tastes have moved on since but no party was complete after that without Beatles music.

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jun-22 12:11:17

Paul has always looked after himself I think. There are probably many 80 year olds who are slim and active without the benefit of 'work' or new knees. According to my relatives who saw The Stones last night, Mick Jagger at 78 was like a whirling dervish. He was on stage for over two hours.
