Jeremy Paxman has announced he’s leaving UC after almost 30 years. I suspect his Parkinson’s is now a factor.
Who would GNs like to see take over, or do you think this programme has run its course?

Nobody comes close to Bamber, as far as I'm concerned.

I used to love that slightly hysterical edge to him when the end was nigh.

How about Clive Anderson?
Is he still working?

I’d vote for him. Witty and clever ?
He does something on radio 4 but I can’t remember what it’s called.

Oh yes!

Perfick

I think there's a sachet of stuff you can take for that smile

Callistemon21 Wed 17-Aug-22 20:00:14

Oh don't!!

Doodledog Wed 17-Aug-22 20:03:02

Clive Anderson is a good call.

I saw him recently on some obscure American channel talking about Ancient Britain, and he was very good.

I agree with growstuff that Alice Roberts would be good. She would certainly please my son as he's adored her ever since her Time Team days. Bobby Seagull would be fun.

Jeremy Paxman is my secret passion. I shall miss him terribly. I shall still watch the programme unless it's Richard Osman!!!

Amol Rajan has been announced as the new presenter on BBC website.

Witzend Thu 18-Aug-22 11:02:46

Dh and I always watch it. I just hope they won’t choose a presenter I find irritating, which TBH is quite a few of the regular BBC faces now. (Yes, I’m a fully paid up grumpy old bag now.)

Grammaretto Thu 18-Aug-22 11:08:41

Yes GrannyGravy is he one of "our" contenders?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 18-Aug-22 11:14:25

Just in case any Gransnetters do not know Amol

Grammaretto Thu 18-Aug-22 11:14:31

I think he Amol Rajan will be better on TV. I find he gabbles on radio and sounds too light hearted. He lacks gravitas but maybe perfect for UC. Let's hope.

MerylStreep Thu 18-Aug-22 11:34:28

Definitely not Amol Rajan
He was involved with Bashir on the Princess Diana interview.
He was the one who asked for bank statements to be mocked up
It’s all there on Twitter, written in his own hand admitting his part.

inishowen Thu 18-Aug-22 11:43:50

A man has been appointed. I dont know him from his picture.

I agree, but the BBC have given him the job, he starts 2023.
JP is finishing off the 2022 series with three understudies in case his illness prevents him from filming.

They are Emma Barnett, Samira Ahmed and Amol Rajan.

GrammarGrandma Thu 18-Aug-22 11:47:28

Emma Barnett would be fantastic! i do find Rajan a bit of a gabbler. Can't bear Coren Mitchell - so up herself and her scripts are terminally unfunny. JP should have stopped already; it's heartbreaking to watch him.

Quizzer Thu 18-Aug-22 11:50:03

BBC a just announced that Amol Rajan has the job ??

We know that is what the last few posts have been about, whether or not he is suitable after his involvement with Martin Bashir and the Diana evidence

Clevedon Thu 18-Aug-22 11:57:37

So it's Amol Rahman. What do we think?

Clevedon Thu 18-Aug-22 11:58:09

Sorry Rajman

BigBertha1 Thu 18-Aug-22 12:02:04

I don't know Amol but he looks very nice. I don't mind a bit of jollity I thought Paxo had his fun moments and loved his wicked sense of humour - I can relate!

Mollygo Thu 18-Aug-22 12:03:10

I’d never heard of him and I know nothing about him, other than what I’ve read on here.
I’ll wait and see whether we watch or not.

Mapleleaf Thu 18-Aug-22 12:13:15

I’m afraid I’ve never heard of him either. Time will tell as to how suitable he is for the programme, but I’m sure he’ll be fine.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Aug-22 12:15:37

Is Paxo not well, then?
