Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

A lot of films have stayed with me and I have a few favourites but nothing has ever come close to The Godfathers.

Sorry I keep popping up. Keep remembering another favourite.
Two Tom Hanks films this time, Mr Phillips and Philadelphia

All About Eve but Casablanca comes close.

My favourite sort of film is a musical.

But my very favourite film of all time is Zulu. Ivor Emanuel singing Men of Harlech…I’m welling up just thinking about it and may have to watch it again later.

The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston & Kevin Costner!!

The Sting, with Paul Newman & Robert Redford, and superb music!

Another vote for Dr Zhivago. The snow, the daffodils , the music , Julie Christie, Omar Sharif . Wonderful!

I have always liked the original Pride and Prejudice film with Sir Lawrence Olivier, despite, or because of, the costumes, even if they were inaccurate for the period. The Three Faces of Eve is another one I'd like to see again, I'm not sure if my choices would appeal to my guests though, and anything that they'd enjoy I probably wouldn't. I'm usually the one out of step!

Granny been. Zulu is my husbands favourite film of all time, especially when Ivor Immanuel sings Men of Harlech. We went to a reunion a few years ago for the South Wales Borderers all the families wore name badges of who was who. My husband soon got into conversation with all the families and can quote line for line every scene in the film.

Been.

A Matter of Life and Death

Or, since I’d have to have kids there

The Princess Bride

Arrrh! What's wrong with the spell check ? Beek.

Favourite film ever .... for me it has to be Cabaret. I normally loathe musicals but this is something else and I even named my son after one of the actors. Dr Zhivago is a close second and then Life is Beautiful but both have such sad endings, there would have to be a good supply of tissues for everyone!

I would love to watch World according to Garp. Robbie Williams at his best.

I have to say, I loved Life is Beautiful. So funny in places yet so tragic in others.
It was filmed in Tuscany. Some in Arezzo and some scenes in and around Montevarchi the town my mother came from.

Always love the last film I saw, in this case Elvis, which I really enjoyed. Favourite of all time, probably The Graduate.

Hi all. I’m a regular reader but don’t post often - hope you don’t mind my penny’s worth!
I really love Cinema Paradiso - music is wonderful; I’m having it at my funeral!
A Few Good Men
Dead Poets Society
Am sure there are a few others……

GrannySneds Wed 07-Sept-22 15:19:41

Sorry I meant Robin Williams

It's hard to name one film, but if I had to it would be "Death in Venice" with the wonderful Dirk Bogard.

This is my absolute favourite film. So moving and with the fantastic Mahler music playing throughout.

When I was a child my favourite film was Korda’s The Jungle Book starring Sabu. I still love everything about it.

HJ1963 Wed 07-Sept-22 15:27:42

The Green Mile.

debsf1 Wed 07-Sept-22 15:29:32

For me it would probably be one of these:

Pharlap (true story), makes me cry every time.

Dances with Wolves another that makes me cry every item I watch it.

The Field of Dreams and another that makes me cry..

I can see a theme going through here ?

And finally LeMans 66. And yes surprisingly, I cry at that one too.

Come to think of it I don’t think there’s many films that I don’t cry over ??

Another vote for Last of the Mohicans - the cinematography, beautiful music, action sequences etc but mainly for Daniel Day-Lewis! Also one not mentioned so far, LA Confidential - Russel Crowe's breakthrough role and a fabulous film.

nipsmum Wed 07-Sept-22 15:38:37

The first film my husband took me to see was The Sound of Music . It's still my favourite followed closely by Mamma Mia.

Macgran43 Wed 07-Sept-22 15:43:39

Loved The Mission and so did my husband. Gabriel’s Oboe was one of the musical items at my husband’s funeral last year.
