Did anyone hear her on Today Prog Radio 4 this am?

Mollygo Sun 16-Oct-22 14:08:43

I thought it was one of your vacuous comments Volver dear.

I've just finished watching all of Miriam's moments on Graham Norton, and she hasn't said anything tooo bad.

She has a very beautiful face, too, which I never realised. smile

Depends what you call 'too bad'. I have heard her telling the most revolting and vulgar stories with a smile on her face which says it all. She feigns innocence and sometimes ignorance, as if she had no idea people might be shocked. She's just being ‘her normal self’ and is so innocent she doesn't realise the effect this will have. Yeah right. It’s all a big attention-seeking act and I can see right through her.

I don’t think that Margolyes is an artist. Forgive me if I have missed something, but I’m a bit confused about this

I'm staying out of this... ?

Most people, including me, have strongly held beliefs. Most don't say things like 'people on here could learn from' whatever or whoever. It's patronising and condescending.

It's bullying.

There was an exhibition of her paintings at the Heide gallery. I thought they were quite crude. She is an Australian, just for your information, if you needed to know Volver. Find it hard to believe you didn’t though.

I think they may have been paintings of her, about her, nanna8 perhaps painted by several artists.

I thought they were quite crude
They captured the essence of her, then!

Has she become an Australian National Treasure? ?

I'd be amazed if she's shown at the Heide Gallery, but happy to be proven wrong... I thought she'd just had portraits done of her by other artists

JaneJudge Sun 16-Oct-22 15:09:55

I like her. I find it somewhat fascinating that people often show a dislike for women who aren't necessarily acting in a socially acceptable manner for a woman of their age.

FannyCornforth Sun 16-Oct-22 15:21:02

Jane I find some of her behaviour unacceptable for anyone, regardless of age or sex.
In fact, I’d be more critical of an old geezer who carries on the way that she does.
I think that she’s a bit silly and let’s herself down.
A bit like Madonna these days

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 15:30:09

I didn't find her a bit show offy.
She merely talks about bodily functions, and that's fine by me.

FannyCornforth Sun 16-Oct-22 15:36:48

Well, the gaiety of the nation and all that.
She’s just not my cup of tea.
As I said early doors, I’m sure that she speaks highly of me.

While I’m here; she said that Bob Monkhouse was the most amazing kisser, and that had she been heterosexual she would have married him (I don’t know what Monkhouse thought of this)

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 15:37:55

Well, he did have rather sensual looking lips.

JaneJudge Sun 16-Oct-22 15:39:41

I liked Bob Monkhouse

NotAGran55 Sun 16-Oct-22 15:40:41

She is most definitely a marmite character.
I loved her memoirs, beautifully narrated showcasing her wonderful voice and acting skills.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 15:42:27

His stand up comedy was very funny, I thought.

He was in at least one carry on film, too.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 15:44:49

Perhaps I haven't seen the worst of her, but nothing I saw put me off her.

I expected her to be much more brash and unpleasant.

I agree that if men talked about their encounters with women and girls in the same way she talks about her sexual encounters with men they'd be labelled lecherous, dirty old men, creeps.

Should we say that it's acceptable because she's a woman?
It seems strange, too, because she is a lesbian.
Was she trying to prove something to herself?

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:12:15

She doesn't strike me as lecherous.
Just very comfortable speaking about traditionally "not nice" things.

She told Graham's Norton's guest that he was beautifully well hung.

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Oct-22 16:35:08

So, if a man tells a woman guest on Graham Norton that she has beautiful breasts that's fine, then?

Oh good.
All those men who've been called lecherous, sex pests etc over the years must be heaving a sigh of relief.

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:45:58

You mean the ones who were mixing in circles with sex traffickers, and so on?
The kind of men that actively pursue young women?

That wouldn't apply to Miriam, as a lesbian.

Indeed! Quite surprising the behaviour that is judged acceptable by women if demonstrated by other women, but would be deemed totally unacceptable by those same women if the behaviour was perpetrated by men. Strange!

A big fat yes!

MissAdventure Sun 16-Oct-22 16:49:52

I can look at a young woman or man and judge them as beautiful.

It doesnt mean I'm lusting after them or trying to bed them.

Mollygo Sun 16-Oct-22 16:52:31

MissAdventure, if the people who mixed in the circles you mention had only commented on women’s body parts on TV, it would have been less harmful certainly, but are you saying it would have been acceptable?
